1 Portrait + 1 Landscape Setup?

I've read that Eyefinity doesn't work for mixed formats and that is okay. I don't see myself wanting to game on multiple monitors. I saw the one guys setup with 2 portrait (4:3 I believe) along with some $1K 30" in the showoff your setup thread a while back. That looked great but I don't know if I even want to go for a 30" IPS ever.

Is there some other combination of monitors which would work nicely together? I only really want 2 monitors. The portrait would be for reading PDFs, but I am thinking to only buy that one first and use it alone for a while... so something 1920x1200 would be preferable I think. It seems like most monitors at this resolution which can rotate are IPS, or at least the few I saw that are TN are close in price anyhow.

I have a 24" (1920 x 1200) and a 17" 5:4 (1280x1024) in portrait.

It almost almost lines up, the 17" is a bit taller than the 24" but it's very tolerable

Sorry if my post wasn't clear. I actually DO want a 30" IPS, I just don't know if/when I will ever spring for it. I don't think I want something as small as your 17" for use in the meantime, but thanks for the advice anyhow. What sort of 1900x1200 monitor would work with another (whatever type of monitor in landscape)?

A dell 24" widescreen is close to the dell 19" in landscaepe, however running both in landscape will always result in a horrible resolution mis-match.

I plan on running the first in landscape alone and want it to be 1900x1200. I need it to be able to rotate as I plan on later maybe making it portrait with a landscape (bigger) monitor. From this list, it looks like the smallest 1900x1200 is 24" -- so I would probably have to pair that with a 30", or just not care about the misalignment.

I swear I was looking at some smaller NEC on some site that was 1900x1200 and like 23" though can't find the link now.

I figured it out and I was wrong... I was thinking about the Samsung F2380M which gets a great review from digitalversus.com

I can't find that actually for sale anywhere though, just the F2380. It is 1080 but maybe I don't actually need that extra width when in portrait anyhow.

F2380M is Europe only. I found a discounted F2380 so might pull the trigger on it unless someone talks me out of it. Just reading some other threads on it here now. It looks like it has some problem which can be solved, though I don't have a calibrator.
