Jetway 2-User TWIN Series

Just wondering if any of you have had a look at these. Basically 2 users can use one computer at the same time through a combination of hardware and software developed by Jetway. It uses time slicing to share the resources of the computer. Here is theirsite and here is a review of their stuff. This stuff is sold at newegg, zipzoomfly, etc.

I am trying to decide whether I should consider this as an option for the company I work at. Basically we currently use Dell Inspiron 3700 laptops to teach a training class and are thinking of buying desktops to replace these laptops for the classes. The 3700 have 500-700Mhz P3's and 256-512MB of RAM, so even a 2.4ghz shared between 2 users seems like it would be better than using these laptops. However this depends a lot on how well this time slicing actually works. Not really trying to save too much money, but more so trying to save space.

Applications that would be used:

Office apps like IE, MS Office, Lotus Notes.....these apps I am not worried about.

Abinitio and other advanced applications that are used in the training class are what I am worried about running smoothly on these Jetway setups.

i'm curious about the end user licence violations this may introduce.

i'm also curious if each user is logged into winxp separately, or under one xp user. i get impression it would be one user, or how it would affect programs that can not have more than one occurance running on a computer.

Get SFF PCs and LCD screens if your worried about space.

80% of the used space is in the monitor/keyboard/mouse, which you will need one set per user anyways.

I wouldn't reinvent the wheel here, space problems are easy to solve.

edit: I just read the links about this, and there is no specialized hardware (thats a good thing), it's all software... You just need keyboard and mouse splitters, and a dual head VGA card. If it were all proprietary, I would be scared as all hell to touch it.

However it's not, but as you mentioned it may not like your software. All depends on how the 'time spice,' but AT gave it a good review. It might be worth trying, see if you can get a demo unit to test your software. Since your talking about training machine, it's not like a horsepower sharing issue would ever come into play...

Motherboards.com sells a similar product, by MachSpeed. Its just a motherboard with additional headers and special software. MachSpeed is a budget-board company, but offers a lifetime warranty on its products, which is kind of interesting. Not a bad choice in an office environment, where the work is not resource intensive.
