I see StarTech sell a 1 and 2 SATA input to a 6-pin pci-e power adapter.... I thought you needed 2 inputs from SATA/molex, but this one they sell on Amazon only has one

and makes me wonder, despite all the reviews, is it safe to use?

FYI, I will have some combo of 270's and 7950's, prob 3 of each, on my Gig mobo, and one of my older 750W PSU only has two 6-pin connectors and 6 molex, so I'm plumb out even for just 3 cards, since they all suck up two 6-pins each.

I don't trust that since the SATA molex connector was designed for low power applications: the pins are small and rated @ only 1.5 Amperes/pin and there are only 3 pins for 12v on the connector which translates into 12*1.5*3 = 54 Watts (PCI-E connector was designed for 75 W). You might be able to get away with that adaptor but I wouldn't say it's safe for the long run.

Ya I was thinking the same thing.. I only asked because the single SATA adpater woulda done wonders for my cord management and simplified stuff, but ya, too good to be true, so it aint, and I will be running it 24/7 so... Some guy on Amazon said its fine, LOL... ya.

Thanks!
