1 Fillport for 2 Loops?

Any Reason why this would not work?

I'm thinking about adding a second loop with a D5 and DD Hard Drive Cooler, and PA120, I would like to use the same fillport as the other loop, with a Y Splitter.

My New Hard Drives seem to get very hot so I'm starting to think it is necessary to cool them down with liquid.

Would I even need a second loop if I have TDX WaterBlock and Maze4 Video Card Block, PA120x2 and D5 already? I'm thinking it would not hurt even if a bit overkill?

You can use the same fillport, and you could probably just add them to the same loop. However, it is most certainly not necessary to ever cool a harddrive with liquid. A slight breeze from a very slow moving fan is all a harddrive needs to stay cool.

There is a problem if you want to keep both liquid loops seperate. With only a Y-splitter, the two loops' liquids would/could mix together. To solve that problem, after the Y-splitter where each of the two tubes go to their respective sides, just add in valves to seal off the path to the Y-splitter that goes up to the fillport.

I thought I might have to add a valve, which is not really a problem, if the fluid mixed at the fillport then thats not much of a problem either.

I'm just wondering if I should get a second pump, if I should then I will definately make a second loop then.

My Hard Drives, especialy my raptor 150 gets extreamly hot, to the point where it is not comfortable to handle. And this is my second raptor and they both worked this way. Right now I have a PA120 in the front of my stacker and the Hard Drive Cage right behind it.

Raptors are ok operating at temperatures of up to 55C...so how hot is the drive getting?

I'm not sure Maybe I will take a readout later, but wouldent the drives last longer if cooled better anyways?

you can do it with out valves

put a Y joint in each line
put a long y joint connecting both T joints to your fill port

place the area of the Y joint that meets the fill port as close to the fill port as possible - thus the water level is above the loops and water will not flow up and into the other :)

Now the hard part may be iff one loop gets low trying to get the water to only go into that side not over flowing the other side into the other :)

could be easily done with some moving of the Y joint when pooring in water.

As long as the Y joint is above the highest point - water wont mix.

To get water into one side of the othr, push the Y joint Right / up to fill loop 1 and left up to fill loop 2 :d

Ya thats the other thing I was thinking, then again I don't care if they mix a little, the only foce that should move water up that high is heat since it is in a stacker case and water flows in the path of least resistance.

Ok so it's possible ;)

Now I just need to see if I should add a seond 120x2 or a single 120, and if a single pump would be enough.

Theoretically yes, however that is the safe operating temperature for the drive. It can very well conceivably operate just fine at even higher temperatures, but higher than 55C might reduce its MTBF. Right now if you are under 55C the MTBF of your drive still stands at 1.2Million hours.... seems plenty long to me.

While cooler temperatures are always good, if you keep within the mfgr suggested limits then the drive should last as long as the mfgr says it will, which is ridiculously long. The raptor is marketed as an enterprise drive as well as an enthusiast drive so WD has to expect it is going into some cramped places.

I finaly got MBM5 Reading The Hard Drive and GPU temps in a room kept at about 80 deg ambient (ambient can easly get above 100) (I could not get Hard Drive Temps to display on my G15 though)

The WD400 GB SE was at 37c, and the Raptor was at 40c according to SMART, and this was under a very light load, I noticed the drive was hot when I was formating and installing windows, it no longer feels nearly that hot by touch either.

I'm not so sure it would be a waste to cool down one of the most important parts of my computer.

I'm looking at a waterblock made of copper w/ 1/2 inch barbs that can cool down 3 HD's and only use 2 drive bays. Just not sure if I can get one shipped to the US. otherwise the next best option looks like Dangerdens.

Temps were.

CPU 33 (water cooled opteron 165)
GPU 37 (water cooled 7800GT)
PWMIC 40 (Air cooled)
NB 44 (Air Cooled)

WD400 37 (air cooled behind Radiator in front of stacker)
RD150 Rap 40 (air cooled " ")

With system at idle, I will have to get some load on it next time I turn the AC on.
