I recently bought a e3110 and a decent cpu cooler. I'm running Vista 64.

Core 0 runs about 44-45's at idle but core 1 runs at 35-38 degree's.

What's going on, is this normal for vista systems? I noticed even while gaming the cores are different by several degree's. My core 2 never did this, they were usually within 1 or 2 degrees of each other, at most.

Right now core 0 is at 46 degree's and core 1 is going back and forth between 29/30

Btw I'm using Core Temp .97.1 on vista 64.

Hmm, maybe while you were installing the cooler one side wound up being not as tight as the other? Might be worth re-seating the heatsink and checking the temps again. That's the only thing I could think that would account for a 10 degree difference at idle. Unless, one core is actually being loaded by a background process that you don't realize. Might be worth looking at Task Manager as well (assuming you haven't already that is).

Yeah I checked that out. Of course with Vista there is more spikes in usage than XP had but I don't think it should maintain an almost 10 degree difference with spikes. Also keep in mind, speedstep is on so it's even dropping speed.

I was thinking of redoing the heatsink but I didn't want to do that unless it was certain that was the problem.

When I was putting my new system together I took the time to experiment on my old one with different ways to spread thermal paste. I have that Tuniq 2 stuff that I heard is pretty good. I tested the rice grain, spread, and the method recommended by Artic Silver (spread line up for duo and strait across for quad) and by far the spread the line method was superior in reported temps (by 5-10 degrees). I checked the coverage after I pulled off the heat sink and the other methods did not equally disperse the paste. But again that was my old system I tested on, my new one I just did a smaller line than the full line, maybe one of my cores is not covered completely?

Think I found my problem. On the cpu, the entire middle section has almost no paste at all, plus 1/4 of the heat spreader is exposed around the corners with obviously no contact to the heat sink. So much for the 'rice grain' method. Gonna go back to trusty line method that Arctic Silver recommends.

*update*

Well I think core temp is broken, at least in vista 64 or with this cpu. I reapplied and Core 0 is a constant 46 degrees but core 1 is between 30-32 fluctuating at idle. Speed fan says the cpu is at 32 degree's ...

There has to be a bug, running benchmarks, my core 0 stays at 46 but core 1 goes up to 45 ...
