Ok, I received my 256mb XFX 8800gt today, and decided to do some overclocking with rivatuner to get a little extra performance. Stock it comes at 600/1500/700. I was able to get the core up to 740 and the memory up to 900, but what surprised me was the shader clock which i got to 1900 stable! Can this be right? It's not stable in crysis at this speed but is in BF2142; in crysis I can run it at 1850 which still seems to be more than I should be getting. The card is brand new and had no mods of any kind done to it. Anyone got an explanation for this?

The explanation is that your card can run at that speed in some games, mine does too but is stable in all games.
You risk corrupting windows if your overclock causes any crashing.
As you have seen your card is not stable at that speed so is best maxed to 1836MHz.

The actual speed you got to is 1890MHz it jumps in 54MHz increments.
Rivatuners graphing tool will show you the actual speeds used.

If you want faster core/shader (and maybe memory) speeds, get an aftermarket cooler like the Accelero S1.

ps whats the stock speed for your memory? I thought all GTs defaulted at 900MHz.

Thanks for replying, actually the stock speed for the 256mb 8800gt is supposed to be 700 (to my knowledge), although I've seen some that are clocked at the normal 900.
