1 120mm vs 2 80mm

In my Lian Li the front intake fans are 2 80mm, would it be better to just put 1 120 in there? Also the front "fan grill" would only allow air in from the lower 80mm's of the 120 if that makes sense.

how about a picture, i put 2 120 mms in my chieftec dragon, but i had to destroy a few drive cages in a way im thinking perhaps you can do the same and hve 2x 120 mm cooling goodness like me

1x 120mm > 2x 80mm.

You'll see slightly better cooling performance with the single 120mm then with two 80mm fans, that is depending on what 80mm fans you want to use. The more obvious benefit is that theres less noise from the single 120 the there is with the two 80mms.

indeed, exactly why i will never buy another 80mm fan unless i have to

however.. the front of the case will have a hole that's 80x160mm, and the fan you'll want to put in is 120x120mm.. something will have to be done about that

Well its a Lian Li PC-7. The front vent is the height of an 80mm fan (and the width of more than 2, say... 190mm). I can easily fit it, but seriously the noise level of the OEM fans is not noticable over the noise of the GPU and CPU fans.

If I were to see a major increase I might do it, but if noise and a minor increase are the outcome I probably wont.

For the most part I was just thinking out loud.
