07' Macbook Pro Battery issue

I purchased a new battery about a year ago for my 07' Macbook pro. On a full charge it will last me maybe 45minutes with the screen brightness at 50% and the key illumination at 0%. Should I get a new battery, would it help? My Ipad2 can run for like 10 hours on one charge. What are my options?

edit.. I exaggerated. The battery indicator says it will last 3 hours, but It will probably last about an hour to an hour and a half at most
 
depends on what you are doing with it....you just web surfing or doing actual processor loading work? Was the battery brand new or "new"?
 
How many cycles has it done? Take it into the Apple Store if possible.
