I was running into an issue on my new HP Envy 15 with an i7 3720QM (2.6ghz up to 3.6ghz turbo). When I was folding, I was only getting 5-10k PPD. I noticed the clock speed was dropping all the way down to 1.8ghz when folding according to CPUz.

Then I found a recommendation to use Throttlestop to manipulate the CPU's multiplier ratios. With it, I can force a 24/7 ratio of 34 to get a 3.4ghz clock speed when folding. Temps can get out of whack pretty quickly, so I'm not going to be doing it 24/7 unless I can deal with that.

However, at 3.4ghz I'm getting about 20,000 PPD with the A4 bonus while drawing only 67W at the wall for a 300 PPD/W ratio. That's some pretty efficient folding.

Mmm, temperature? My fear is that you're getting 70C inside your laptop, the CPU is fine with that but other components will die.

I feel bad about the components in there having to deal with whatever kind of temps you got going on in there.

Stick the laptop on an A/C unit ;)
