If you use an app to tell if someone is too drunk to drive, you are an idiot. Period.

BreathalEyes uses the iPhone 4’s camera to detect a lack of “smooth pursuit.” That is, the subject is told to look as far as possible to one side and the camera watches for fast, involuntary eye movement. It then uses this data to gauge the BAC of the testee. The people behind BreathalEyes have tested it alongside a breathalyzer and found it to be accurate in the range of 0.02% – 0.17% (+/- .02%) BAC.

Well, part of the problem is that alcohol, at the same time as it reduces ones response times and ability to safely operate heavy machinery it also - at the same time - increases confidence, making you think you are fine.

Anyone who tells you they are a good judge of whether or not they are OK to drive is either lying or very naive.

Driving can statistically be shown to be impaired already at a BAC of 0.02%

It seems like your confidence in your driving ability increases steadily with your BAC. It seems like a lot of people are concerned with driving home when they've had just a few beers; which depending on your mass, sex, and the period of time may or may not be the case, but after 10-12+ is very confident they are fine to drive and need the keys taken from them.

and found it to be accurate in the range of 0.02%

That's fairly inaccurate seeing as 0.08% is the limit

Drop your iPhones and iPads on a line in front of the vehicle.
Walk along the line.
If every single device is crushed, you're safe to drive.
