The T221 comes with 4 DVI interfaces on the back arranged in 2 LFH-60 connectors. Even a dual-link DVI interface doesn't have the bandwidth to drive it at 48Hz (3840x2400x48 = 442MHz). To drive the T221, you can use 1 to 4 of its DVI interfaces. You can get a quad-head card and drive it as 4...
One is driven by a Quadro FX 3000 using both the dual-link and single-link to get 3840x2400@48Hz. It's driven as 2624x2400 and 1216x2400 using horizontal span.
The other is driven by a Quadro FX 600 PCI using both single-links to get 3840x2400@25Hz. It's driven as two stripes of 1920x2400...

The all-in-one version doesn't allow 1920x1080@60Hz DVI input. You'll need to get the external AVC box version and throw away (or place a DVI switch in between) the AVC box and connect your PC directly to the panel.
The T221DG5 has 4 single-link DVIs on the back of the monitor. Unlike the previous versions, the 4 DVIs on the DG5 do not have to be genlocked but you'll get tearing if you don't. Link #1 and #2 can be paired with their dual-link->2 single-links adapter box. The box merely splits up the even...
I'm running dual-T221 and really love the smoothness of the text. Even though the monitors are 204dpi, I set my Windows resolution 120dpi in order for some poorly designed programs to display text correctly. If a website insists on using small fonts, I just hit Control-+ in Firefox to increase...
The latest rev of the T221, the DG5 model, can run in several modes. The DG5's native refresh rate is 48Hz. At full res of 3840x2400, even a dual-link DVI port doesn't have the bandwidth to drive one at 48Hz. So you have a choice of using 1 dual-link and 1 single-link port simultaneously and...
XP has a dpi setting and it works okay. Portrait Display has a couple of utilities that can help. Like I said above, OSes are moving towards better support of resolution-independency.
The 5120x2048 one? I don't remember exactly where it came from. Here's a site with lots of high res...
Here's one of my favorite illustrations. It shows how a 5120x2048 desktop would look on various multi-monitor setups. This all started when someone mentioned he had an 8-monitor setup on his Mac. The picture is to-scale. Note that there's no video card support for a 4-Apple-30" setup on the...
The T220 was announced on 6/27/2001 with a starting price of $22k. The first customer was the Lawrence Livermore Lab. Full-scale production started 3Q01.
Hmm... Your printed page is 300dpi+ and you wouldn't call it hard to read, would you? Operating systems are adding more...
I still like the IBM T221 better. With 2.25X the pixels, everything looks smoother on the IBM. Note that in the picture below, the two browser are the same size in terms of pixels.
