    Logitech M100 tracking problems

Turns out its a lemon. I tried someone else's M100 and the tracking was noticeably better. Does this happen often?

I was afraid of that. Since my previous logitech optical mouse didn't have any problems with the surface, I would consider this to be a drop in quality.

    Logitech M100 tracking problems

I have had a basic Logitech Optical Mouse at work for several years now (maybe 7?) and my left button is finally starting to go, so I asked the IT department for a replacement. I was given a Logitech M100, which is apparently the standard replacement mouse across the entire company (of...

    Digital Audio Out Question

I should clarify. You can only send stereo OR something that is already encoded in Dolby Digital over the digital connection from the PC to the receiver. If you have games with surround sound or software which expands your stereo music to multiple speakers, you won't be able to transmit more...

Cannot get 5.1 via analog to my receiver...?

Someone can fill in the details, but I seem to remember that there are some issues with how the bass channel is handled in digital vs. analog. Dolby Digital 5.1 encodes the bass channel 10db lower than the intended output volume. This way the max possible bass output is 10db higher than the...

    Digital Audio Out Question

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1032172446#post1032172446 You should use the analog outputs when connecting your speakers to a PC. The digital input on your speakers is more for the case when you want to use them in place of an HT receiver and speakers.

Help! Only 2 speakers on 5.1 Working...

I'm guessing you have used a digital connection between the soundcard and your speakers. This would be a single coaxial or optical cable (similar to a DVD player). If this is the case, keep reading for more of an explanation. You will only get 5.1 with this connection for DVDs or other...

    External Dolby Digital Decoder options?

Chill out, the kid is only 13 years old. It seems like an Extigy from ebay is the best option. Any idea if there would be significant lag due to the DD decoding in the Extigy? I don't understand why: 1.) One is forced to go to Ebay for an affordable standalone DD decoder. How is it...

    External Dolby Digital Decoder options?

My cousin just got logitech X-540 5.1 PC speakers for his XBOX360. Maybe I shouldn't have, but I explained to him that he won't actually be able to get discrete 5.1 without some kind of decoder. What are the options for an external DD decoder? It doesn't look like the Creative DDTS-100 is...

Samsung 204B horizontal line of messed up pixels

This is the 2nd time I have had the problem. The first time I had the problem, Samsung set up a warranty swap immediately after I described the problem. This time, the customer support rep first asked me to disconnect the computer and turn the monitor back on. He seemed to think the problem had...

    Acer AL2416WD 24" LCD Ordered-Review/Pics/Videos on Arrival

"input lag" is a misnomer. Read the rest of the threads here. The REAL problem is the amount of time it takes for the digital video signal to get from your video card output to the pixels on the display. This has nothing to do with your mouse.

Should I get the Samsung 204B or 204T?

Ok, I see that Samsung lists the panel type on their site. Are all s-pva panels 8-bit while all tn-film are 6-bit? If not, how do I tell if its 8-bit or 6-bit? Also, a bit more googling revealed a blurb on the Anandtech forums implying that tn-film is less susceptible to input lag than s-pva...

Should I get the Samsung 204B or 204T?

I've had the same exact dilema. The only problem is that BestBuy no longer lists the 204T on their website. They must have stopped carrying it in favor of the 204B. The only thing left to do is to see if my local BestBuy still has the 204T in stock. I use the 204T at work and I like it, but I...

"2 Speakers" in CS:S with "Headphones" in Control Panel?

Sounds like you are asking for application specific configuration profiles. I don't think that is possible. On a side note, if you are playing CS:S with an Audigy 2 ZS and headphones, look at this thread.

Z-5500: Should I buy BlueGears XMystique or X-Fi Music

FYI, the X-Fi can't do surround over a digital connection even WITH Creative's digital speakers because the X-Fi does NOT have DIN support. It was removed most likely for DRM concerns. :(

X-FI 3D positional sound through headphones with CMSS 3D.

All I can say is that if you ask Creaitve, they'll tell you that 2/2.1 speaker mode IS NOT intended for use with headphones. If it sounds "better" to you, that can only be a side effect of the differences in filtering between headphone and 2/2.1 speaker mode. The algorithms used by 2/2.1 speaker...

X-FI 3D positional sound through headphones with CMSS 3D.

This guy posted on the Creative forums as well. I think he just has really sensitive ears. CMSS3D will result in some distortion, there is no way around it. For example, if a sound source is behind you, and if you associate "quality" with a flat frequency response, you'll certainly be...

A Modest Proposal- Why 5.1 Headphone Hate?

Use the Rightmark 3D Sound positioning test. When using stereo headphones, configure the X-Fi for Game mode, select Headphones in the speaker settings, and turn on CMSS3D-Headphone, and set both ElevationFilter and MacroFX to On. When using the Medusas, configure the X-Fi for Game mode...

A Modest Proposal- Why 5.1 Headphone Hate?

Yup, I'll chime in. Unsynching and setting the game to 5.1 is ONLY necessary in HL2, not the other way around. In any game that uses OpenAL/DirectSound3D, RMAA 3D Audio Test included, you DON'T have to unsynch and set windows/game to 5.1. Also, a detail... When using OpenAL/DirectSound3D, the...

    X-FI: Headphone surround emulation..

Yup. I would qualify that by saying that we are talking mostly about FPS-type games. Obviously, RTS or other non-3D games may be a different situation. Not familiar with your particular application, but that seems right. Do whatever you have to do to get the app to output 5.1 channels. Then...

A Modest Proposal- Why 5.1 Headphone Hate?

Even assuming that the positioning is roughly equivalent for both, you can't get the same level of sound quality from a 5.1 set compared to a good stereo set. Bottom line, some people say 5.1 works better, but MOST seem to say that something like the X-Fi-s CMSS3D-Headphone works better. The...

    X-FI: Headphone surround emulation..

These issues only apply for games which do not use OpenAL/DirectSound3D. When Headphones are selected for an OpenAL/DirectSound3D game, you'll get virtual positioning from ALL directions, including above and below if ElevationFilter is on. Furthermore, the only game that I that I routinely...

Suggestion needed - earbuds for iRiver H10

I use them on the treadmill without any problems. However, when jogging outside, you'll have a harder time hearing cars and such because of the isolation, especially if you listen at relatively high volumes. Another vote for ATH-A500. I prefer closed for the isolation. You can listen at a lower volume and it will save your ears in the long run. X-FI: Headphone surround emulation..

Hate to confuse things further, but this is not entirely true. If the game is DirectSound3D or OpenAL, the Creative speaker setting is used. You don't have to configure the game to output 5.1. If you select Headphones in the Creative setting you will be fine. If the game also has a speaker...
