Hi all. My girlfriend's daughter has a problem, instead of doing her homework and other things she needs to do, she gets distracted by the internet - like for hours at a time. Is there any program I can install that will limit the amount of time she can spend on it, like 2 hours per day for...
I partitioned my hard drive and installed Windows 2k on the second partition in addition to WinXP. This caused the XP bootloader to get overwriten with the Win2000 bootloader. I did a restore with the XP disk, fixing that problem. Unfortunately, this rolled my .NET back to v1, which after a bit...

My Inspiron E1505 has overheating issues, maybe I should open it up. I'm also missing the screws that hold the HD in place, it partially slips out at times. I guess it comes with a 2nd hand Dell.
Is it working now?
I have tried changing my video drivers several times and I used driver claner each time.
Edit: Sometimes it also blames my memory with something like "NMI: Parity Check Error."
Dell E1505.
Intel Core Duo 1.6GHz
1 GB RAM
Radeon X1400 + Omega Drivers
My laptop bluescreens at the oddest times - and blames either ati2dvag.dll or my memory (NMI: Parity Check) - when it is idle, watching videos on youtube, listening to pandora or using OpenOffice Calc, but never...
I have burn at once installed on my system, but I cannot seem to find proDVD anywhere. Has eveyone started using a different free software for DVD burning?
What is the suggested DVD burning software around here?
What are normal cpu, gpu, memory etc temperatures? My chipset, gpu and memory hover around 35-40 under normal load, isn't that a bit high, while my CPU will stay around 25 with the fanspeed set to low?
Sorry, it is a dell inspiron 1505. How do I measure my temps? I have not run memtest, I usually get BSODs when it gets unreasonably hot and the fan fails to kick in.
My laptop keeps giving me BSODs, and I think the problem is overheating. Like all laptops, it has an automatic fanspeed feature. Well, it seems to have problems detecting when it's getting too hot and my fan never kicks in. If I could control my fanspeed I could at least troubleshoot the...
I hate them, personally becuase they cater to the section of the market that has no business owning a computer IMHO.
However, if all your looking for is something for word processing, browsing, or simple office work then they're ok. Then why don't you just get yourself some refurbished boxes...

I got an old Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop for college. It came with a lot of crap on it so I'm trying to format the HD and put a fresh install of windows 2000 on it. The only probelm is, the HD won't let me format it. When I put in the Win2000 disk and select a clean install, it acts normal just as...
My IP uses dynamic addressing, no I guess it's normal in my case for it to change addresses? What is the easiest way to set up a dummy service?
Ok, I tried activating the DMZ server option and setting it to 192.168.0.2 and I ran a port scan with http://www.pcflank.com/scanner1.htm it read 6881 as closed. Damn . Setting the DMZ to 192.168.0.1 didn't work either :( WTF is going on?
I'm using arch linux, 2.6 kernel, and a netgear mr814v2 router. I need to foreward ports
6881 to 6999 for bittorrent. My computer was 192.168.0.4 on my home network and everything was working great - i was getting green smiley faces in Azureus. I turned it off before I went to work and when I...
Im following an Xorg guide and I'm doing the CVS part in order to get my old savage4 card working with hardware acceleration, just to say I did it. Something messes up when I try to apply the patch it indicates:

Is it possible to replace those lone transistors and rectifiers in motherboards and power suplies with vacuum tubes for coolness factor. Has anyone done it?
ASIO is some sort of advanced audio technology that the guys a steinberg invented, among other things it bypasses the windows mixer which completely butchers your audio. It's completely free to use, so what can you loose?
1) Get Foobar, you can do ASIO in winamp but it wont sound as good...
I've had my KDS AV-7T for like 5-6 years now, and lately I've noticed it's been running hot. But now I'm really worried becuase now the emitter end of the CRT has glowing orange. Is it just getting old or do I need to repair it?
Am I gonna get cancer?
Gentoo Linux 2.6 kernel

Realtek 8139 ethernet card
NETGEAR mr814v2 router

I hope this is the right forum for this. I'll be downloading something with Azureus and i'll get normal dl speeds (20-80 KB/s) for like 20 minutes after I start...
Try fiddling with your drive cables, you may have gotten confused and put the right one in the wrong slot on your mobo, and make sure you have all your jumpers set right too.
pIII 450 MHz
320 MB RAM
Gentoo 2.4 Kernel
Esoniq ES1371
Long story short
1)Been using linux, new to it, realised I had no way to control my sound volume level
2)Asked on the gentoo.org forums, got one reply, the guy said to emerge alsamixergui
3)So I did
4)Worked, made system tiny bit...
What he said ^^^^^^^, portage will take care of your dependancies, so you really don't have to worry about your use variable that much, putting anything besides proccessor extensions in it will create unesessary bloat, so I just use:
USE = "mmx mmx2 sse"
For my PIII450 machine, you would...
