Hi,
I have a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2H motherboard in a computer of mine and it was working great until I tried to put a 4TB drive in it. I'm running windows xp 64bit (which supports GPT for large drives). I am not using it as a boot drive only data. When I run disk manager it shows up as a...
I have an Antec Earthwatts 380 power supply. My system is a server with the majority of components being low power. The CPU is 45W AMD, I have 2 fans + CPU, a tape drive, CD-ROM drive, and currently 7 Hard Drives. I have room for 2 more HDs but not enough power connectors. I was wondering if it...
I recently got a new dell Desktop. Was wondering if I would be able to dual boot Win 7 & OSX with no problems?
Processor: Intel Core i7-920 Processor (8MB L3 Cache, 1MB L2 Cache, 2.66GHz)
512MB ATI Radeon HD 4850
Motherboard: X58
Tried 2 different displays with diff cables. Also I should mention, when the raptor was plugged in, the keyboard etc powered on and off and the fans went loud -> quiet a few times as if it was power cycling. At this point there was no video. Then video came on and it was screwed up. If I...
Hi,
I am having a weird problem that I am hoping someone can help me with. My primary machine for the longest time has been a Dell Dimension 4600. One day it randomly started having major video issues. Every now and then it screen would get yellow jagged lines horizontally across it. You...
In theory any device that doesnt need to draw power from the USB port can be operated without a hub (from what ive read). I need a 30ft cable because I want to keep the HD in a closet out of site and hook it up to my laptop. I know I could go the NAS route etc etc, but I dont need anything that...
The drive works fine with a normal cable. Have tried all combos of drive power then plug in, plug in then drive power etc. None of that works... WIndows only sees the 'generic usb hub' but nothing more...
I recently bought an active usb extension cable and when I connect it to my external HDD, the hub in the middle of the cable lights up and windows installed 'generic usb hub' drivers. But other than that it doesnt detect the actual drive. Any ideas?
I have a Win XP 32bit machine and sometimes when I am working in a folder with a bunch of files, the file names will 'change' to random stuff. Usually they change to parts of file *paths* like C:\something\something\somefile. Or other times just to other file names. I say 'change' because if you...
Ahh, if my current OEM mobo doesnt support the extremes then its useless to try and upgrade the whole system. In that case I would just wait and buy a whole new system. How do multicore chips help decode HD? Are the x264 codecs designed for multicore?
What if I got a Intel Extreme for socket 478? Anyone know where to find these. That would probably let me play 1080p vids etc with no problem. Could my mobo handle it if I tweaked the bios settings?
Is there any mobo I can get that will support a newer dual core cpu but also support all my old components (existing ram, existing agp video card, etc)? I will also upgrade the power supply because this one is making noises...
Otherwise what is the fastest cpu I can get for my existing...
I actually can't run my own server because I am using Amazon Web Services and since spammers used AWS for exactly this purpose, all AWS ips are blacklisted by the majority of mail clients. I could run a mail server elsewhere but this is a pain since the rest of my stuff is on AWS.
Hi,
I am building a website that needs to be able to send invites / mail to members. I was wondering if anyone knew of a reliable smtp relay (I think thats what it is called but I am not sure). If it is called something else let me know... I guess another term I have heard is bulk mailer but...
Not planning on using this for gaming at all... just want some more cores in the proc since mine is single core with HT... also a video card that can do 1080P mkv vids...
If I can get a deal on a new dell for a 300-400 that can do this... thats probably a better option.
doubt I could get much cash for this one...
Which components wouldnt work? I would upgrade the mobo, CPU, PSU, RAM, vid card? I know it sounds like im pratically buying a whole new rig but at least I avoid case and HDDs.
I have had my Dell Dimension 4600 for the last 5 years or so and it has served me well. It's 2.8Ghz with HT and has 1GB of ram along with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. I know it's pretty outdated overall but it serves almost all my purposes and is still pretty quick.
Lately though, I have been...
Hi,
So I have a few LTO2 tapes that got mixed up. I am using windows backup and set unique media labels for each tape. Is there any way to put the tape in and see what the media label is?
Thanks,
Danyal
Yup just booted it up and installed windows. Still having a few problems booting after the install though, but I think it has to do with my master/slave config since my CD-ROM and OS drive are on the same IDE channel. Will look into it more tomorrow and post an update.

Ok great, got the fan. I should have asked this before, but my logic is since the rear fan is blowing out, I was going to make the front fan suck air in and blow it across the drives? Is that correct?
Well, I ended up buying the CM330 and just finished putting everything in. Haven't booted it up yet though. Is it bad practice to connect all the components (HDDs, CD rom, tape drive, scsi card) before having booted it at all?
Also-- What is a good fan I could get for the front of the case /...
Ok great! Also, how about this case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119068
Only $15 more and has really good reviews? Any thoughts?
I have 35 LTO-1 tapes for sale ( they can store 100GB, 200GB compressed). All of them have been wiped and are verified working. 10 of them are brand new. The brands of the tapes are mixed but I can check and let you know if it is an issue.
Looking for $10 per tape + shipping. I have good...
The deal was 60 - 30 = $30... So I ended up buying it. Worst case I can throw it in my current computer, but I think its a good unit? Only catch is ill have to buy converters for peripheral -> sata power.
Also do you think 380watts will be enough for 6 drives? I think it should be considering...
That mobo only has 4 sata ports, so I would have to eventually buy a sata card.
There seems to be a deal on:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371005
What if I got that and then got Molex -> sata power converters? Will that PSU be powerful enough for 6+ drives? I...
I am trying to build a reliable server for as cheap as possible. It is only going to be used to serve data primarily via the network. It will also have my dual bay LTO-2 tape drive installed in it (scsi card interface). The primary requirement was for it to support at least 6 sata drives.
So...
I am looking for a program which will scan directories and report back when it finds 2 files with SIMILAR file names... So far all the programs I have tried only report exact duplicate file names.
Hi,
I recently started using an LTO2 tape drive (200GB tapes). I am using windows backup as the backup software. The only thing that is being backed up is stuff that has already been compressed (flac, mp3, other media).
When I go through the windows wizard it asks me if I want to use...
Ok, after pondering, I want to go the Mid tower route you initially proposed. That way I will have room to expand + I will be able to install my dual bay tape drive :).
My only beef with the case you showed is the fact that the door seems to be the sliding type that is connected via screws. I...
That parts list looks pretty good. Actually I doubt I would even need a case that big. This case would seem to be able to store 5 drives in the 3.5" bays and then with the adapter another 5 in the 5.25" bays. What case is 1 step smaller than this and good quality (just so I can compare). Also...
12 bay is overkill for me... 6-8 would be fine. Not to mention the 12 bay is way above my budget.
At this point the only 2 options i really have are building my own and using an enclosure like: http://www.bixnet.com/8usenfor3sah.html
That enclosure is nice but will also end up costing a...
