    BFGTech GeForce 9800 GTX @ [H]

Probably because he feels like everyone else running the canned benchmarks just wants to put their fingers in their ears and shout "LALALALA I'M NOT LISTENING" when he tries to explain why real-world gameplay evaluations are...well, more reflective of real-world gameplay!

    BFGTech GeForce 9800 GTX @ [H]

    1. Those of us that have been reading [H] since the Radeon 9700-series remember the cries of Nvidia fanboys back then when the 9800 came around and kicked the crap out of the 4 and FX series. Quite frankly, they were terrible cards (I know, I owned 3 of them) compared to ATI's offerings...

    Empire At War Demo

Ground combat is definately frustrating, tried twice with a freaking division of tanks to take over that damn planet, couldn't get anywhere. Space combat and bombing runs on planet are teh awsome however.

    X1800 XT PE!!!! watch out 512 7800!!

I've got a pretty simple rule: Until I see it on the [H], then I don't believe it. Not one other website out there uses real-world testing. Instead they seem to love the pre-canned "apples-to-apples" benchmarks that don't really tell the entire story. And any site that uses 3dMark in...

Let's vote again, Which VGA card are you running now?

And now we see where the real money is, on the "low end" cards and mid-range 6800GT/GS/Ultra. Despite what we like to think, us bleeding-edge nutcases just don't make the major bucks for Nvidia/ATI/et. all.

Recommendations for a 939 SLI AMD board?

DFI is good if you want to run batshit-insane voltages and overclocks. I've got the A8N-SLI Premium (non 32x variety), thing is rock-solid stable at up to 302MHz FSB. Overclocked my 3700 San Diego from 2.2 to 2.787GHz like it's nothing (just bumped voltage from 1.4 to 1.48). Haven't overclocked...

Is it me or are the 81.94 drivers made to overclock?

Meh. I just use Coolbits for the clocks and ATITool for the artifacts. If it can't do an hour with no artifacts, then it's not truly stable IMO. Yes, ATITool's built-in artifact detection works with NV cards. And what is this "simple fan mod"?

ATI Backs Up CrossFire Quality @ [H]

This is exactly why I stuck with my DFI NF3 board until May of this year. Sure, I won't be on the absolutely bleeding edge of the absolute newest hardware, but stability of overclocks is more important than getting those last few 3D E-penis marks out of my box.

HardOCP Eval - BFG GeForce™ 7800 GT OC™ with Water Block

The biggest reason I would ever go water cooling is for the silence. Though since I moved to a case that uses a 120mm fan instead of 2 80mm fans, and a 120mm fan on my CPU, it's not so bad.

HardOCP Eval - BFG GeForce™ 7800 GT OC™ with Water Block

Wow, the amount of AA and AF modes you guys have to play with now are insane. How much more time have they added onto your reviews so that you can try all the possible combinations? Great review as always.

I admit it....I'm going to the dark side in about a month

And we still have NO CROSSFIRE MOTHERBOARDS FOR SALE. So those X850XT Master cards are all but fucking useless at this point. ATI has hosed this whole mess up royally.

I admit it....I'm going to the dark side in about a month

Bullshit. If they weren't having avaliablility problems, they would have been out on the launch date, or 4 months ago when they pulled the BS with Crossfire.

I admit it....I'm going to the dark side in about a month

Until I see some Crossfire motherboards for sale that can overclock as good as my A8N-SLI Premium, yet still maintain 100% stability, and see X1800XT's on the market that aren't $200 over MSRP (mark my words, it's gonna be an X800XT PE all over again), it ain't happening. SLI right now is...

Thanks to everyone who liked it. I usually try to go for quality over quantity when it comes to posts, so I'm glad I delivered. It appears that my right testicle has the high ground at this point, as for whether he'll go Obi-Wan Kenobi on my Anakin Skywalker of a left testicle, that remains...

    1024 x 768 .. or ... 1600 x 1200 ?

    1. Depends. Try out both and see which ever you prefer. I have an LCD, so I always run native (1280x1024) if possible, then crank the AA/AF until I don't get a consistant, playable framerate. Be warned though, it takes a powerful machine to run any game at resolutions that high or higher with...

    X1800XL Spotted

*Ding Ding Ding* We have a winner! Why pay $479 for something that is slower than a $419 or $465 product? Makes no sense, unless you've got a reall hard-on for Crossfire. And considering I haven't seen a Crossfire motherboard yet, why would you?

    Feeding BS?

It's pretty funny seeing how the tables have turned lately. I remember around the time of the whole FX fiasco, HardOCP was constantly being refered to as an "ATI bitch" because they FX cards did so damn poorly (and I can speak from firsthand experience on that, the FX 5700 Ultra sucked more dick...

    MSI NX7800GTX-VT2D256E (Lite)7800GTX,,, Any Good ?

I also have the exact same card. Overclocks using the stock cooler to 475 Core/1.25 memory for 100% stability over several hours, maximum for 10 minutes is 490/1.33. Overall, a very good card.

    [H] ATI X1000 (R520) Series Eval.

    Someone a few days ago posted a link showing how a Pentium 2 350MHz box running a 9700 would knock around a 2.4 P4 running a 9600 in 3DMark 03. I haven't trusted that POS ever since 03, and I sure as hell don't have any confidence in 05.

    [H] ATI X1000 (R520) Series Eval.

And the other thing to consider is this: as ATI has proven with the whole Crossfire debacle, the possibility exists that these are very specifically cherry-picked samples that have been sent from ATI. [H] gets them, and ATI fails to deliver on the retail end. With the 7800GT and GTX, everyone...

    [H] ATI X1000 (R520) Series Eval.

That's because all the other sites out there use plain-jane apples to apples benchmarks. They don't mess with SSAA, HQ AF, nothing, they just run the same benchmark at the same resolution across all cards. They are, quite frankly, lazy reviews. HardOCP tries out multiple combinations of quality...

    7800gtx - wasted potential

Yeah, yeah, but the impact of that is even more minimal that overclocking the core. But hey, FPS's are FPS's. All I know is, when I still had my 6800GT, after slapping a NV5 Silencer, I was able to get 416/1150 out of it for 100% stability for hours of gaming, and 427/1230 with about 10...

If these sheets are true: R520 spanks 7800GTX

I can claim that my penis does a little jig everytime someone scratches my neck, put that on paper, release it to the public, claiming it's 80% better than any other penis on the market. Of course, if I don't back that up with, you know, proof of that by 3rd party review, I could just be...

    7800gtx - wasted potential

If this was the difference between a 6800GT and a 6800Ultra, I'd say yes. They're both basically the same card, same number of pipes on each of them. The 6800GT is just clocked 50MHz slower. 90% of the 6800GT's can be clocked to Ultra speeds without any special cooling. However, such is not...

    7800gtx - wasted potential

Turn on SSAA in BF:2 with 8xS AA and tell me if it's wasted. Not even a 7800GTX SLI rig would be able to do that and maintain a constant framerate above 60fps. It's all about the eye candy.

Hypothetical quest GTX owners - will you sell your GTX for R520 if it proves faster?

They haven't even been able to get it out the door.... Based on the amount of delays we've seen, and the whole fiasco of the X800XT I'm not holding my breath on there being enough stock. They were able, however, to get the x850XT out the door in great numbers, I will give them that...
