It's because of the bad press they got when twitter was allowed to hand over information in 2010.

Sadly, google...
Yep, I work for one of those 3 companies right now and do a lot of interviewing for them. Even at the good schools, half of the students aren't ready to be productive at a high level. Industry hires are even more of a crap shoot. The worst industry candidates are the ones who come in with...
There's really no better place to work than SV career-wise, so it isn't a simple question of wanting to live in the area. You're certainly not living in SV for the culture or local attractions.
Also, lol at gamasutra of all sites and one of its long time writers being called some no-name indie hipster who doesn't play games. That's the classic comeback to ignore this issue.
Thanks for posting this, and this thread is yet another reason why we never seem to be able to even acknowledge that there's a problem.
If you've ever seen the crap a gamer who is easily identifiable as an attractive female has to put up with online, you wouldn't be having any trouble...
I stopped reading at $3 display.
Also, the current Google Glass is essentially a developer edition. I don't hear people complaining that the Moto X Developer edition is $449.99, while the subsidized Moto X is $0.01.
The data can also be interpreted to say older players have higher ratings than younger players with the same reaction time. The lack of older masters players can be explained by a function of small sample size and demographics.
Also, get off my lawn.
Would love to see the data normalized by metacritic scores or something.
I think he's right though. If most of your sales are going to happen in the first couple of weeks, you're better off putting an extra week of effort into creating a better game than releasing a demo.
Anecdotally, I'm...
I agree with most of the concerns that they raise, but this isn't strictly accurate:
"There is no way to know if you are being recorded by someone wearing Google Glass or a similar device."
There's a prominent LED that's enabled during recording.
Wait, when did google claim to have deleted the data? Google has been forced to hang on to the data for years now, until it's done fending off all of the requests to access it.
One of the issues with G+ is that it errs on the side of privacy. A lot of my friends encountered this issue:
1) Join G+, add a few people.
2) Make a couple of posts, shared with circles.
3) Add a whole lot of other people.
4) Look for posts.
Only the people added in step 1 can see posts...
I don't know the details of this video (It's too long to watch right now) but you can blame Microsoft's temps for this. Microsoft used to treat its temps fairly well, and they sued for not being treated well enough. Now, all companies have to make sure that temps get denied a bunch of...
I'd rather stream from my wii than my xbox. My xbox is a giant powersucking black hole (what is that power supply rated for, 150W? 180W?) and is noisy.
"unemployable" is a terrible word choice, but if you can dig up the original article, he makes a bunch of good points. My field (software development) has grown to a point where you cannot cram everything you need to be a good developer even after 4 years, so something had to get thrown out...
I did ok by switching jobs, but I wonder whether that number takes experience into account. USA tech jobs are getting increasingly top heavy in anecdotal, as I'm seeing a trend where a junior developer position might compete with an outsourced team.
I saw this link on fatwallet earlier. I don't mean to thread crap, but most people who plan on hacking a Juice Box also buy the mp3 adapter kit, which comes with a SD/MMC adapter, 32MB card, and a USB interface, I believe. You can direct order the adapter from mattel for $6, but that still...
Hah no.
Intel placed a bet on netburst allowing them to scale up megahertz. What was it, 5 GHz by 2002?
When they failed to scale MHz, they were going to move away from netburst anyway regardless of AMD. The entire purpose of netburst was high clock speed. It's a horrible architecture...
It's unclear from the diagram to me that a processor running at 33% speed consumes 33% of its usual power, or 50% consuming 50%. You can't just undervolt something 50% (1/4 power) and expect it to still run at 25% as fast.
What really excited me about that diagram: It implies that you can...
If all you need is a "real" e-mail address, you could try spamgourmet. Thier FAQ and forums have lists of domains that you can use.

Hah, what a load of garbage. The article can't even keep its facts straight.
"its new, Ajax-enabled home page with support only for Internet Explorer 6.0 and Firefox 1.5. The only logic one can use to justify such a move is based on a totally PC-centric viewpoint"
Yeah, stupid firefox...
These things tend to be low quality, and will never spin down your drive. Most Laptop HDs, and pretty much any old Laptop HD you're recycling for one of these enclosures, aren't meant to run 24/7. What this means is, don't leave it plugged in if you're not using it.
I like the mini mods and think they're a great idea. However, I am aware that I give Bethesda a little extra slack because the concept is still experimental. A couple years down the road, I'd expect a bit more consistency, and better descriptions of what I'm buying.
Valve is releasing...
Thanks for the informative review. However, with a title like "Real-world gameplay scaling", I was expecting more real-world system choices. Most of us do not live in the dual core world yet. The sole AMD single core CPU choice was the $1000 Athlon FX 60, with the slowest performer of the...
I play on an LCD now, so it's irrelevant. I play in a multiple of native resolution, and drop video settings until I never go below 30 fps. If I can reach a steady 60 fps, I will do it. This meant that I used to play CS:S in 800x600 on my 1600x1200 LCD.
However, if I were to switch back to...
BTW, Dell is selling this monitor for $1199 today and tomorrow.
It's a good deal because it comes with a free Pentium D 820 system.
