I guess some of you have been a bit luckier than I with system stability. When I first bought my MBP (my first switch to osx) the OS would hiccup quite often, a simple reinstall of OSX fixed that though and everythings been smooth for the most part. OSX is quite stable, but Adobe apps and...
Windows vs OSX thing aside... the XP upgrade was only $100 and thats like every ~4 years as opposed to apple's $130 annually (student copies of XP pro full are $25 at school for me so still less than the Apple discount) so how is XP the expensive one? That being said, I prefer the annual flow...
1. Dragthing can provide a more organised method of storing icons than the dock. For example you can set it to work as a drawer and then setup tabs to categorise your apps - minimal desktop usage with easy access to whatever you want. Also pathfinder is a nice finder replacement IMO. While...
It comes with everything (manuals, paperwork, tray eject tool, screws, sata cable, interchangable beige faceplate and software). I've just added a photo of the accessories :)
I'm parting out my desktop system because I'll be using a laptop at college and bringing a desktop system across the country repeatedly just isn't practical. In an attempt to free up some closet space, I'm also selling random watercooling parts from projects I never had the time to...
People have gotten it to work. I forget where I saw the guides, take a look at ars technica, the apple support discussions (apple.com) or mac addict, they're definitely around. Too tired and lazy to search atm :(
The x1600 lags a lot with things like opening dashboard and various effects on the 30" - things that aren't a problem when running with just the laptop screen. Wouldn't mind a 7800 :)
When it gets toasty (both cores at 100%) theres also a fair amount of artifacts showing up on my screen...
I've had sata cable connectors break on me with very little sideways force; the plastic was extremely brittle. Just for the sake of it I intentionally tried breaking the other end and compared it to a store bought sata cable to be sure it wouldn't happen again and sure enough the store bought...
You're definitely right. The only reason why I wanted to point it out is so he wouldn't repeat my mistake. I made the assumption that while things wouldnt be amazingly fast, basic tasks would still be performed in real time. Unfortunately even simple resizing, zooming, and cropping seemed...
I wouldn'y say really well on a g4... but livable - and apparently the intel chips are running a bit slower than the g4s with rosetta... Buying a new computer hoping to do graphic editing on it yet having performance several years behind isnt all that appealing either. Not to try and start the...
If you plan on really gettng into photoshop I wouldn't be so quick to jump to a mac thinking everything will be okay... I just switched over myself to a 1.83 MBP with 2gb of ram and while I'm really beggining to enjoy the experience, graphics apps are one thing I jump right over to the PC for...
I think your framerates in STV are like that because forests are the most demanding on the graphics card - especially with viewdistance at max. My framerates are always the lowest flying thru darkshire with all of the trees - not 40 person raids or in IF (on a PC with a 7800GTX).
I was assembling my PC (working on cleaning up the case wiring and such) and I disconnected a fan from the power supply (nothing else on that power cable, and possibly rail?) while the computer was running and the PC shutoff right after that; I realise that was a stupid thing for me to do...
The 7800GT/GTX do actually have dual link dvi. EVGA lists it on their site as having it, and I can confirm that both the MSI 7800GTX and EVGA 7800GXT KO do have working dual link (2560x1600) - despite specs saying that isnt the case in some places. I'm assuming its because Nvidia lists it as...
I had problems getting SLI to work at first similar to yours. Both cards were in and properly installed yet the checkbox was greyed out. Once I plugged in a different monitor everything worked fine and I was able to switch back to the previous one...
I haven't a clue what the...
I bought my fx3400 for $900...
the 7800 is what im using now and it works just fine for the 30'' as well, and a GT can be had for around $350. While it may not be $99 its a lot cheaper than what you mentioned. ;)
I could be wrong but I don't think the graphics card price is holding...

shure e2s are okay, but theyre far from being as user friendly and comfortable (imo) as the sony ex71s... Don't get me wrong, the shures are nice, but if you want something simple just pick up the sonys. The shures need to go deeper into the ears, you need to learn to put...
One more question... wouldn't it be better if warcraft were using two cores even though it isn't supposed to? That would mean double the processing power wouldnt it?
Thanks for the input everyone!
Eickst:
I realise that Win32 currently can't use all 4gb of ram but Windows 64 wasnt an option for me as Media Centre Edition only comes in 32 bit (AFAIK). Less driver support also isn't exactly encouraging. Holding out till Windows Vista... (hope its good)...
I play World of Warcraft a lot and am currently in the middle of building a new system. I'm not obsessed with frame rates or anything but I can't help but notice that I'm getting 24fps in Alterac Valley when it should be higher (at least I'd think). So here are some of the facts...
System...
