2x WDC WD80EZZX-11CSGA0 8001.5 GB
Pulled from EasyStore external enclosures.
Excellent Condition and taken care of, no bumps or anything.
The only thing are some CRC connection errors in smart, from a set of bad cables. When I changed the cables, everything was fine. Drives are healthy...
I was thinking about doing the same thing, but I read reports from people saying it was a bad idea for a mobile device. If there are people here who are doing it successfully though without the liquid running and causing issues, I might consider it.
If things continue the way they've been going, I'd expect the 4TB and 8TB SATA SSDs to be much cheaper next year. Then you won't have to deal with SMR either.
It's definitely worth doing even if modding the bios is what it takes. Instead of throttling to 2.9Ghz on my XPS 15 on all cores from hitting 99c, I now get 3.7ghz fully loaded on all cores while riding smooth in the 70-80's. I was able push it further to get 3.9 on all cores at the same...
I found this and it works. Cool

I put it back to normal though. I think the undervolt is good enough for this machine.
I was interested in the Lenovo X1 extreme gen3 later this year, but now that this is out, I think I might get this next. Especially since they recently increased the travel distance of the keyboard, it's still not thinkpad keyboard worthy, but it might just be good enough while everything else...
Thanks guys. My Dell XPS 15 feels much more like a desktop now. I was lucky though, I didn't have to install the mod in this case, all I had to do was reset the bios to factory settings and the voltage unlocked. :D

If you want to do it regularly create a batch file.
If you want very fast same drive copying then a 1-2TB TLC NVMe is pretty much the way to go for the best bang for buck. Otherwise get a second drive to eliminate same drive copying needs.
A few months ago I was copying some files onto an old 3TB Hitachi drive. I was being lazy, it was an open mobo, a bare drive and the data cable was running to the drive that was sitting aimlessly on top of a 20" box fan. I knew it was risky, my gut had feeling it would fall. ~10 minutes later...
I run LTSC and love it, that's all I have to say. I have no problems with it, there are improvements here and there that I've noticed over the 2016 release. I can't imagine running normal windows with all of the bloat. Just disable updates after everything is initially updated and installed...
Pretty much just don't read reviews at stores for tech products. You can't trust what the masses are saying. Stick to hardforum and proper review sites made from techies. But yeah, if you're looking at the lower dollar deals, then of course they aren't the best.
But yeah just buy a Samsung...
Also crystaldiskmark measures in empty space so when used on HDDs with data on them, the results aren't showing the drive's top potential. The software is better for SSDs or empty volumes.
For storage purposes they are fine, compared to hard drives they are much better of course, but performance suffers compared to TLC drives. I wouldn't use them as a system drive. For a game volume though, I don't know if there would be a real world performance difference vs a TLC drive...
You can download an app called accubattery. If you charge to 80% or less it supposedly saves more than double of the lifespan of the battery. It has an alarm to notify you when it's at 80%. I use a wireless charging stand and just frequently put it on there during the day when I'm not using...
LTSB is very fast and lightweight without all the extra crap you don't need. I don't regret switching from Win7 and I held out for a while.
I use hundreds of apps and only a couple that are over a decade old don't work, though with tweaking I could probably make them work. But, no big deal.
Anyone know how many displays you can run off of this?
Can you run 1x4k and 2x2k all at 60hz?
What about 3x4k at 60hz?
Or 1x4k and 4x1080p all at 60hz?
The laptop screen would be off plugged into a dock.
What about the Quadro T1000?
open a cmd as admin and run these commands
