I took the plunge a week ago and removed Vista x64 from my gaming laptop and swapped to W7 full time.
So far only a few little problems (hotkeys etc) but all have been sorted out by enabling the problematic program to run in Vista compatibility mode.
This is working out alot better than Vista...
Is it me or are the RIAA / BMI the only company that successfully manages to get people to pay if they want to advertise an artist.
Youtube did the right thing in the UK as the licence fee shot up like a NASA rocket and its right for them to take a stand about it. The sooner that the RIAA /...
They probably are on bread and water now after their safe and secure banking investments all collapsed.
I think the music and film industry would do a lot better if they reduced the number of quick buck releases they did and make much better music and films. I mean, how many music remixes...
They have asked to block all file sharing?
So, we just need to block places like iTunes, The RIAA websites and any other place you can download music from or view pictures. Technically these are all file sharing sites as there is one file on a server that is given out to people on request...
Alot of companies are after the quick buck nowadays.
Blu-ray should have launched differently. Start off without the stupidly high licence costs that are needed to have anything to do with blu-ray on a disc or a player so that they are cheap to make then, as the production costs fall...
Green drives have their place. I use a green drive in my HTPC where it runs alot and access speed / data transfer rates are not the main thing needed. What I would really love is something like the old Quantum BigFoots where speed was second to size. It would mean 3-4TB of storage in a slow...
Ok, hands up who didn't see this coming..... Ok, all you RIAA employees you can put your hands down now.
The RIAA don't like it when things don't go to plan and cannot stop the people they are suing using their own legal right to defend themselves.
I expect to see the case dropped before...
and 99.995% of money obtained by the RIAA is never passed onto the final artist, this includes all legal sales..
I think mine is a more accurate statistic than theirs.
I will be either watching live OR downloading it. What's the betting the RIAA find a way to put a block on it either by finding a judge that is willing to stop it or use other means to DOS the service.
I will keep my CD's. No DRM to worry about (some have it but its now all removable) and the quality is the same or better than any of the download sites plus a system crash means I can still listen to my music while rebuilding my PC / waiting for the servers to come back online.
I do see...
Technet subscribers have been able to download since Wed. Its the public beta people (like me and what seems like 18.99billion others are trying to get) that cannot get the key or download.
I am willing to download from a torrent but as with everyone else I still need a BETA key or do a...
Wow,
Sales last year 10
Sales this year 40
Now that's a 400% increase, what can I say sales must be booming.
Now for comparison we need to see the sales against current DVD sales and not just a percentage growth figure.
Remember, a 400% growth from 0 is still 0.
Yeah, I have seen alot of reports where some UV dye has clumped in the water leading to blocked blocks / rads or pumps.
I use a simple mix of 99% distilled water with 1% antifreeze from the local auto store. Not had any problems with this for well over a year and use it in both my loops. Dont...
The coolant mix I have used for over 2 years now is 99% distilled water to 1% autostore best antifreeze. My gaming loop has had this mix in it for well over a year with no growth at all, my HTPC setup has kept the same for 2 months now and that is running about 70% of the day again no growths at...
I have a B3 stepping Q6600 that I just retired to my HTPC setup, It had been running 3.2GHz (400x8) at 1.5v (poor chip to clock) for just over a year and its new role is at stock due to needing a quiet system. My Q6700 has been running at the same settings but 1.38v for the last 7 months without...
Well according to the chart you showed it has detected your graphics card correctly but has failed at the memory. Try just 1 ram stick (may have to try with a few different ones as one may be faulty).
The 690G is a good chipset however if you can go for a 780 or 790 chipset that would be even better as it has some fixes to small problems found in the 690G southbridge.
This is the sort of board I would reccomend, had no problems with mine...
I use it (except on the ATi 690 and 780 chipsets where it is bugged).
It allows the drive to work better in multi-access situations (boot up, virus scan, etc etc) where more than one program wants to access the drive as it can shuffle and queue access requests so that the heads can get the...
Check to make sure you have not got the option to limit CPUid (or something like that) enabled as that will then report the wrong CPU to the O/S if you have.
I would not go nVidia for a chipset if you want a silent system for HTPC, tried it with a 680i chipset and had so many problems I binned the board and bought a new P43 board to run my Q6600
I have just added an ATi HD4670 (replaced an HD3470) card to it and undervolted the fan so it is...
I am now just waiting for this to happen...
ISP: As requested we have a list of the people you would like to take to court for file sharing.
RIAA: Great, that saved us a fortune in hunting them down ourselves.
ISP: Yep, we just need you to pay this bill for our engineers time and...
Well, that is slightly cheaper than my "play" loop on my HTPC but if it works exactly the way you want it to then that's fine.
I have been having a go with cheap water cooling to run alongside my gaming PC setup. I used 8/10mm pipe throughout, the idea being for simplicity and ease of working...
I have swapped all my plastic barbs out from my H2O Ultra+ kit to metal ones, in the process I also dropped down to 8/10mm hose to make it easier to work with. Total difference is 1C high load temps (so basically nothing).
On my other cheap kit I have used 1 right angle plastic connector...
WOOHOO, I can finally update my drivers without waiting weeks for them.
oh wait.... the drivers available are older than the ones I have already, that sucks.
Time to go back to using a hacked inf file again.
Yep, that would be a good thread title.
Vista 32 used as HTPC
8.12 Drivers on HD3470 card
1920x1080 50Hz on primary monitor, 800x600 on secondary
Driver crash as soon as power save tries to turn monitor off (i.e. unattended recording) and of this there is about 75% chance of BSOD due to...
And so it begins.
The public blocking of one picture will probably make it the most visited page on Wiki whereas just leaving it or asking wiki to remove the image would have given it a lot less publicity.
One thing I have noticed though are a lot of websites now posting this news with...
I have a Q6600 B3 I use for a HTPC setup, its on a Gigabyte EP43-DS3L board.
I have had to go from 9x266 to 8x333 to keep my normal voltage (3GHz wanted a 0.1v bump but this works out at 2.66GHz but faster FSB). You should be ok to just raise the FSB to 333MHz and then setup your RAM...
The processor market is about to take its next steps.
Intel will be pushing 8 core chips soon for high end desktop with quad core chips as the main runners. This will replace the current quad high end and dual main runners.
Most new games are starting to appear that can take advantage of...
I think the Q6600 is the staple of most overclocked quad core systems. I have a nice B3 Q6600 that managed 3.2GHz at 1.5v that is now retired into my HTPC and a Q6700 that can run up to 3.8GHz at 1.55v.
I think the only chip that will be able to match it for ease of overclock now are the 920 i7's
JEDEC meeting to design standards
JEDEC "Well guys, we have agreed that we need to use identical trace lengths and that this new design for a memory subsystem will work great, and we can all use it to our benefit so we just all need to sign up to it and..."
RAMBUS "Hang on guys while I...
I have gone partly BR
I decided to not buy a BR player but bought one for my laptop and use that with the TV. Most of the newer BR releases are just poor transfers or upsampled DVD which yields no benefit to a BR adopter, there are a few gems in the mud though but you still have extortionate...
Welcome to the UK where on a packet of salted peanuts we have to have a warning that the product contains nuts just incase someone with a nut allergy buys a pack and dies while eating them.
