Currently running Klipsch 2.1 Promedia off Realtek onboard sound. I used to have an Audigy Platinum card that I ran these speakers off of on my previous build, but now I'm just using onboard sound processing.
Newegg has a deal for X-Fi Titanium Fatality + Fatality gaming headset for $139. I've...
I saw that thread. The reason why I made my own was because my questions specifically pertained to MSI Wind desktops running Atom CPUs.
So, nobody here has first hand experience with the MSI kit? From the Newegg user reviews, the product appears to be very well received sans DOA's and a small...
Ace as in, ace an interview or whatever. You know, perform beyond expectations.
Anyways, thanks for the tip, checking out that site for deals right now.
But can anybody tell me what the drawbacks of an Atom CPU are?
I've decided to go all out (keep in mind I'm poor) this year. I wanted to give my parents a nice gift for Christmas, so I decided to give them a new PC. The one they are using now is a complete piece of crap pre-built HP 'desktop' computer which is somehow smaller than a standard 17" notebook...
Setpoint is crap without Uber Options if you ask me. I use the MX Revolution mouse, and with UO, I'm able to map the thumb wheel to universal media player controls. Scroll up for Next Track, down for Previous Track, and press as a button for Play/Pause.
Without the freedom of Uber Options...
uxtheme multi-patcher
Patches your XP system files to allow the usage of unsigned themes. It uses no additional resources compared to the default XP "Luna" theme, since there is really no additional processes running in the background.
Alternatively, a windows shell replacement such as bb4win...
I'm totally stumped on this one. I've been using WMP/Winamp regularly on my machine, and today I've began to have this problem where whenever I start up one of those two programs, my computer will freeze up. The machine does not lock up 100%, since I can still move the mouse, move windows...
The Ninja rev. B is an excellent passive cooling option as long as you have good airflow running through your case. And since you're using the P180, there will be two large exhaust fans moving air through the top and back your heatsink.
Refer once more to the link I posted earlier. The...
Can't seem to run ORTHOS with stable results at anything over 8 x 444MHz on my E6750 with Scythe Mine cooler. I ran 8 x 442 overnight with no problems though.
How do I know if my temps are accurate?

Thanks for the input, but could you elaborate on what the difference is between the two different options? Both cables supply the same 12v, do they not?
I'm building a system with a Corsair 620w PSU and ASUS P5K Deluxe mobo. I'm planning on overclocking my e6750 w/ a scythe heatsink, 2gb Corsair XMS and 8800 GTX.
My question is this:
The mobo supports both 4-pin ATX12V and 8-pin EPS +12V power plugs. Which should I use? What is the...
So if the E6420 isn't going down in price, and the only new features of the new units will be the 1333mhz FSB which you say isn't that big a deal, I can pretty safely make my purchase now, no?
P.S. Why no rebates?
I'm working with a Viewsonic VP191b right now (19.1" 1280x1024) but I plan to go either for a 24inch widescreen monitor or 720p HDTV in the near future. I think 320MB should be enough for that? Maybe I'll go the SLI route if I bite on the 24" down the road.
About the new CPUs coming out, do we...
I ordered the P182 today on the cheap thanks to Danny Bui, $145 shipped. I'll wait on the other components for now.
And for all you saying that I'm spending too much on the case, let's just say I'm a real stickler for a quality case.
So when is this CPU price drop happening? Hopefully within...
Thanks for the input guys, the last computer I built was a 3 grand+ machine from over four years ago, so this <$1500 machine isn't too hard on the wallet to me. For goodness sake, the last videocard I owned was a GeForce ti4600!
I had no idea that performance components were so cheap these days...
I dug up this configuration on Newegg earlier today. Let me know what you guys think
Antec P182 Case $169.99
CORSAIR 620W PSU $169.99 -$40 rebate

zOMG so I just checked out Newegg.com to see what all this 7200.10 nonsense was about (mind you the last computer I built was over four years ago, so I've been kind of out of the loop). Well it turns out that Newegg is having one of those combo deals where I can get one 250gb Seagate 7200.10...
I'll be using this computer for playing awesome games, watching hi-def content off the HDD and messing around in photoshop, in case you were wondering what this computer will be doing.
So what you're saying is that if I choose to go for a RAID 5 with four drives, it would be the equivalent of a three drive RAID 0 with room for a single drive failure?
Also, the WD800JB drives I have are IDE drives. Will that affect performance in a RAID setup? I know that the SATA interface...
Thanks for all your help DriveEuro, but I have one last request.
Do you know of any place where I could get some HDD benchmarks, specifically for the 74gb Raptors in RAID 0 and 7200RPM drives in RAID 0?
I'm not all that familiar with RAID 5, but from what I recall, it's basically RAID 0 with an additional parity drive that corrects smaller errors (please correct me if I am mistaken).
What happens in the case of a drive failure in a RAID 5 setup?
Thanks for the feedback.
The reason I didn't list RAID 0 with four drives as an option is because it doubles the risk of failure as opposed to two drives in RAID 0, which is already a greater risk than no RAID at all. Speed is important, but speed is nothing without reliability. I'm willing...
I'm in the planning stages of building a new performance desktop rig and I need some input on the HDD setup I should use. I've been considering two different RAID setups but I need some help in determining which setup would be better for me.
Speed is the most important factor for me, followed...
So if I can find an OEM copy of XP Home lying around somewhere, I'll be able to reformat/reinstall with that and get all my (updated) drivers through the HP website?
If that's the case, then I think I'm pretty much in the clear.
I found this website which sells restore CD's for OEM notebooks. Has anybody ever heard of them? Do you think I can trust this company?

Does it matter if I don't have an active warranty? I'm not the original purchaser of this laptop, and I have no way of contacting the original owner either.
I'm trying to reformat an HP dv1410us notebook computer. The problem is that I don't have the factory restore disks available to me, and there is no restore partition either. Anybody have ideas on how I can reformat the machine and reinstall XP without the disks or product key?

The POST code freezes at 26 (or maybe 2b?) and never goes past that. I checked the user's manual and there is no information about 26/2b. Any ideas? I've also tried resetting the CMOS. It doesn't seem to be working but I might be doing it wrong. I unlugged the power and moved the jumper pin from...
