I have an MSI KT3 ultra-ARU
The 1.3 Duron I'm suing is pitifully slow. But the week before I planned an upgrade I got laid off
So the PCI-E card/Mobo and dual core CPU will have to wait.
So now I need to get some more out of this board and my ever faithful GF2MX
I'm going to chuck a bucket...
Looks like the new PC will go on hold.
I didn't win the YY on Ebay, then got made redundant on the same day. Second time I've been made redundant in 3 months.
I'm going to hope that I get the Ebay one.
Should cool. I imagine that shipping one from the US to the UK would be silly cost wise, if I could find someone who would even quote for it.
If I don't get that one, I'll have to rethink.
Willi92: There is one on EbayUK, still has some time left, but little interest. I' hoping fingers crossed nobody notices it, but I guess mentoning an interest in it isn't helping that.
jmroberts70: I've seen that pick before when looking for mods for the YY I'm sure.
Those are impressive...
Been about 5 years since I visually modded anything.
Want to use the YY as it can be fairly easily modded and there is one that might finish cheaply on the bay.
I already have a full tower, but it is a basic plain one from way before modern CUP speeds, has very little room for fans, only...
For SWMBO.
She is paying, I'm just speciing it.
Budget is less than £400GBP, and preferabley less than £300GBP.
But she wants something scalable and last a while.
Her old Duron 700 has lasted about 4 years and was in use doing other things before that.
I was thinking
Foxconn Socket 939...
Haven't moved on with anything other than the HDDs.
As usual, things start to fail, they get replaced, and just when you are getting ready to make the next big spend, what comes along but a load of money problems, life in general problems, work problems and everything else.
As things stand...
Cheers Danbanger, Sounds a good base point.
Last week, 2 of three of my HDDs started to fail.
So they got replaced.
Out
8 gig Samsung
8 gig Fujitsu (failing)
30 gig Seagate Baracuda ATA (failing)
In
120gig Samsung
120gig Samsung
160gig Samsung
Not fast, but plenty of storage...
Gut her out, and build in a set of 7 or 8 Mini-ITX mobos with their own compact 12v in PSUs.
Run the whole lot off as big an AT PSU you can find. Also, use laptop HDDs of moderate capacity to keep the weight down (so you can actually move it).
Mod in a network switch, and a KVM and build...
Probably arround £500GBP per machine (and it doesn't get as much as $800USD would suggest), maybe upwards if I wait longer to save, and definatley more if I know I have cash coming and can CCard it while I'm waiting for it.
And now I'm planning 2.
I've just been adding, and upgrading, and hoping.
But now is the time.
I feel the pain of my missus, her Duron 750 groans with even fairly old games.
And the GeForce 4 MX440 that we used to replace her ancient and burnt out TNT2 has just croaked with a burst Capacitor...
Come on guys.
I've read the Faq, I didn't buy a bare panel, making the classic newb mistake, and whine for a spoon feed.
I know of a few places that sell the controllers, but most that sell online rarely sell internationally, unless you order $1k USD.
Most are US based. I know it would...
