Me personaly would remove the standoffs and use a tap and make new standoff locations. To me that sound like it would be easier than a cut and peice together.

your not hardwiring it to mobo are you? it should be going to a pin header.

i would look at conector end that that plugs into the mobo there uselly marked + -. if not try black as ground. remember you just conecting a small circuit on your set up it just wont work if its backwards :D
