Apple isn't going to ruin the lines of any product they sell for something a "silly" as ruggedness.
I've had a Magpul case on every iPhone I have owned(and my wife has a pink one), and they have all held up very well.
I can confirm that 90% of the time a single CPU is better for performance from desktop to servers.
We have 3(4 host) clusters consisting of Istanbul(Hex Core), Dunnington(Hex Core), and Nehalem(Quad Core) architectures. It has been true for every arch, and every version of VMWare we've used.

I originally intended to keep her 6600, but she came home with the new Riddick game...
It's time to upgrade my wife's system.
This machine does light gaming, light compiling, moderate encoding, and frequent virtualization.
Here's what I'm looking at currently:
GTS 250 512MB
Kingston HyperX T1 4GB
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3L
Intel Core2 Quad Q9400
Comes in right at $500. Can I do better?
Don't want any lesser card with cash, but will add cash for higher card.

We have a 4-node ESXi cluster of Sun 4450s(hopefully more to come soon). We have mil-spec thumb drives plugged into the internal USB ports, and no internal storage. They have great so far.

I had a very skittish cat ruin a spanking new Voodoo3 that way. Doorbell rang. He jumped, and somehow managed to land in the crack between the desk and wall. The PC and monitor wedged in the crack between the desk and wall, and the port just popped off.
I'm looking for a socket 939 board.
Don't need anything fancy. Cheap and stable is what I'm looking for. Something with integrated graphics would be a bonus.
Also looking for a cheap ATX case. Again don't need anything fancy. Just cheap and not trashed.
I have a pair of 2x256 PC-2700...
XvMC is what you need to be reading about. It has worked with nVidia cards in Linux since the GeForce 4 era. The amount it will help is unknown. I have a 7300GS in a X2 3600+ machine, and the card does a big portion of the video.
Our AD Servers are 2003, and they've been up for nearly a year without a single issue. I'm no Windows lover by any means(typing this from my powerbook while ssh'ed into my MythTV box), but even the server 2000 machines we have don't have too many problems. Most "Windows" problems are cause by...
It's more than enough for both tasks unless we're talking about HD for the media PC. Even then if you paired with a video card that can handle most of the decode it should be fine.
I setup a Laptop with a ULV PIII 700 mobile as a linux server for a friend. It idles at 300, and kicks up less than once a week.
It has a gigabit PCMCIA card and a usb2 PCMCIA card with a pair of 320 GB external drives hanging on it. He loves it. Very low power requirements, it's silent...
Spent 3 hours on the phone with Apple trying to get Active Directory authentication working, and made absolutely no progress.
That's my initial impression.
It gets 2-2.5 hours with my normal usage. With the wireless off I can squeak 3 hours out of it. With wireless off, PowerPlay set to max powersaving, and RM clock keeping the processor at 1 GHz or below I can get 3.75 out of it.
Sorry, my son has been sick, and I haven't been on in a couple...
There is a way to erase the netinfo database, and get it back to the first setup screen. Commands are in parenthesis.
Boot up in single user mode(Hold down Command+Option+S+U after you hear the gong)
Remount the drive writeable(mount -uw /)
Delete the local netinfo database(rm -r...
I am interested in partial trade, but not for a video card or pocketpc.
I'm only using a 19" widescreen, and my unlocked/overclocked card is more than adequate for the games I rarely play.
