This place has them for $99 each, I bought two a while back for my PLP setup. They are definitely used, some scratches on the casing but the screens themselves are like new.
Some of the systems I deployed at a previous job back in 2001 are still up and running just as I left them according to some of the guys that still work there. Pretty amazing, and somewhat sad they are still using them.
Ok, so I didn't know what you guys meant by SR-2 (I've been out of this stuff for a long time) so I looked it up. Holy shit I want!!!! I have some E-ATX cases that would fit those things nicely. Might have to move some money around into the "play" fund. What's really sad is one system these...
Oh no it's starting already! Just added in my macbook pro (not that it will do much), I'll see about adding some of the other stuff I have laying around this weekend!
Yeah 24 duallies at the high point! It was a mix of AMD Athlon XP1700+, 2500+ systems and later on I had Opteron duallies: 4 Opteron 240 systems, 4 Opteron 246 systems. Most were just bare systems in 2u enclosures had a rack in the basement and everything. The vast majority of these systems...
I used to frequent 2CPU quite a bit! I also had several dually machines running (24 at one point). Haven't folded in a few years, some of these 12 core CPU's make me want to get back into it! It's sad, all I have at home now is a mac mini.(and a basement full of old Opteron & Athlon XP (L5...
If you already have the blade chassis or enclosure then they more than likely would; I've found that the cost of the enclosure often turns people away from blades. At my last job I was able to work in a deal where Dell would provide the enclosures for free if we fully populated them from the start.
I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the QX2, I'll post back with some thoughts on it after it arrives and I've gotten it all setup. Looking forward to using this in place of my big quad core box, should be much more power efficient (the mini is only drawing 12-16 watts)...my old setup is...
The bastards at Carbonite definitely throttle you, from what I've see CrashPlan does NOT throttle you as you start filling up their storage. I'm extremely happy with CrashPlan and recommend it to everyone (haven't had a bad experience yet).
That is another great thing I like about their...
Very cool setup, are you using OS X's software RAID to do the mirror? My current fileserver is a quad core intel (Q6600) running Leopard Server (got it for $25 from a coworker), thinking about using the G4 mini in its place since that should use a bit less power. Currently testing power...
I went and passed the exams for Net+ and Security+, I figured I might as well get them (I had vouchers for both exams anyway). Easy exams compared to some of the other performance based stuff but never hurts to have on the resume.
I use CrashPlan and Carbonite, as well as backups to external disk (stored at the bank). I'm most impressed with CrashPlan and may drop Carbonite after my 3 years is up. Highly recommend CrashPlan for backups, hell I'm backing up my all of my friends/family to my fileservers @ home then...
I'm still getting over the shock of moving to SSD's, I've actually been buying them and upgrading my family's computers and some of my friends. If you are thinking about going SSD, stop thinking and just do it.
I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on that QX2 unit and using it with one of my older mini's (1.2GHz G4) just to backup....my backup server. Might be a neat little setup to mess around with.
I have a buddy at work that's been using the OWC Mercury Pro QX2 and he likes it so far. I've been thinking about using one of my mini's and picking up the same enclosure. It's not too bad price wise if you bring your own drives (it's $299 empty)...
Another vote here for CrashPlan, I use it for all of my family members and it's been working out great. I like the fact that they have a client for most OS's, Linux, Windows, OS X, Solaris. I use CrashPlan and Carbonite for my fileserver but I honestly prefer CrashPlan.
I much prefer this...
Hey fellas that's my setup! What kind of numbers are you looking to see? I'd be willing to do some benchmarking if you're interested. Wish I had a pair of 285's instead of my 246's though.
This is going to be great. I have a surround gaming setup with a Parhelia, finally Matrox has answered our prayers for an updated solution. Dual 7800GT's and TripleHead2Go here I come.
I want to see Baldurs Gate 1&2 redone with modern graphics. While we're at it redo Planescape: Torment too. Who's with me? *stands alone*.....screw it. *runs away*
I have a half assed 3 screen setup for Microsoft Flight Simulator as you can see:
I'm using a PCIe X800XL on the left and center screens and a POS X300SE on the right screen. I open FS2K4 on the center screen and open external windowed views and drag them on to the left and right...
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 - I have recently gone a stretch of 6 days without sleeping and I fell asleep for a few seconds mid flight. I woke up and the plane was upside down headed towards the ground and all I could think about was the passengers, then I realized it's just a...
