Well, long story short...I have a drive here that shows up in Device Manager on an XP machine, but does not show up in My Computer or Disk Management. Is there software available that I could use to scan the disc without it having an assigned drive letter, or apparently even a readable partition?

pigster is correct. The company I work at, I've had to install that fix on well over 60+ machines, one at a time! Easily one of the most annoying problems I've encountered in a while.

When you say the P4 screen, I'm going to assume you mean the initial startup screen. How much RAM is in the machine? As well, how long has it been doing this?

Thanks for the help guys. Booting using the UBCD worked like a charm. I was able to restore the backup registry files manually and everything came out great. The first thing I did after it was done is backup the entire hard drive!!

I've run a repair install, yes. However, what do you mean when you say restore the registry? How do I go about that?
