I'm also very sorry. My father took several years to finally pass so it wasn't a surprise but it still sucks. I've also been following you since the beginning and I'm barely holding on to most of it. Thank you for continuing to share your saga here.

    A Picture I Took 2015

What camera / lens combination is this? The only 20mm pancake lens I know if is for the u4/3 platform. I've tried adapting fisheyes to the 20mm panny with varied success...

    IT Resume Thread

I always get a laugh when I see "references available upon request" in a resume. When would they NOT be available?? OF COURSE they're available!! What would be a more useful statement might be if you worked for the CIA and can't divulge any references or maybe you don't have any to offer...

    IT Resume Thread

It has more to do with attention spans. I think many resume readers (of which I am one) just lose interest after a dense page of your life story. If you can't summarize your background and skills in one page, maybe you're just saying too much.

    Network pics thread

Man, I LOVE the Ubiquity WAP!! I have installed about a half-dozen so far and they have worked perfectly. Their extended range version is amazing. I hadn't thought of running UniFi on a Raspberry Pi though. Have others tried this? That may be a great idea...

What do you use to cover the bodies with that color / look? How hard is it to clean off?

I have to agree with UnknownSouljer on this one. I really like the affect on a portrait and will have to give that a try myself on my next shoot. Martin Schoeller has an awesome portfolio BTW!!

Is anyone using Office365 with Exchange's Instant Messenger??

I looking to move our business to Office 365 with Exchange for our mail. I've been using Microsoft's Hosted Exchange for about a year now and LOVE it. One of my co-workers used to use a feature of Outlook on the desktop for IM'ing other employees in the office at her old job. I have seen a...

    A Picture I Took 2014 - Contains NSFW Images

Hell, I'll take this one even further. Over the last 2 years, I've been heavily investing all my extra cash in camera equipment because I am aiming towards that career now. I have a couple of profiles on 500px.com to share my work. On one of them, my most popular photo (by FAR) was shot with my...

It it a good idea for a windows server to be running DNS services?

Ah ha!! Ok, it's starting to make more sense. We can build and bring up a second server to also provide DNS services and point to the primary server. This way there is no single point of failure in providing DNS services to the network --and I can plug BOTH servers IP's into my router to pass...

It it a good idea for a windows server to be running DNS services?

I wouldn't say this thread is a train wreck. It's actually been educational. I don't normally work around AD networks so I'm unfamiliar with their needs. The server admin usually works on network infrastructure that's already setup so we both are somewhat ignorant of each others worlds. Take...

It it a good idea for a windows server to be running DNS services?

I'm sure we're using DHCP controlled by the router. The issue is providing DNS services from a local server.

It it a good idea for a windows server to be running DNS services?

Ok well that settles it then. I'm really up on servers and AD in general so I really appreciate the info everyone. Thanks!!

It it a good idea for a windows server to be running DNS services?

Ok, so that MAY be the need. If he's using AD, maybe he needs to run a local DNS server?

It it a good idea for a windows server to be running DNS services?

That's what I would imagine but this admin has dictated that each machine in the building be manually configured to point to the local server for DNS. We're running a PFSense router that is handling DHCP and is fully capable of handing out DNS information. --I just don't see the point in...

It it a good idea for a windows server to be running DNS services?

That makes sense but is it worth the hassle of manually configuring every machine in the office this way? Is there some benefit to having local hardware running DNS services that make this worth it? I just don't see why it can't be set to automatic by default on any machine on the network and...

It it a good idea for a windows server to be running DNS services?

I'm working on building a new network inside an office of about 150 clients. The server administrator has setup their server to be the DNS server for the building. It's running Server 2008 right now with plans to upgrade to 2012 shortly. My question is: 1. Is it a good idea to do this? It...

Wall-Mounted UPS: Why so hard to find??

The media converter equipment wasn't my choice. It is being provided by AT&T to deliver their circuits to the customer. Swelled batteries is an unusual case. I setup a maintenance schedule that replaces batteries and checks functionality of the UPS. The possibility of a swelled battery is no...

Wall-Mounted UPS: Why so hard to find??

Would be nice but our servers are not the problem. We have a critical fiber optic feed to the building that is then converted to an electrical signal and peeled off for internet and T1. This media converter box is the critical piece of equipment that cannot go down. I also have a Cisco router...

Wall-Mounted UPS: Why so hard to find??

APC documentation instructions for battery replacement: "Step 1 - Turn off the UPS and disconnect all equipment connected to the UPS." Seriously?? What the hell APC??!! Obviously if I'm running a UPS on anything, it's because it needs to stay on all the time. What good does having a UPS do if...

Wall-Mounted UPS: Why so hard to find??

I've thought of that but most rackmount UPS frames are very deep (wall-mounted would translate to a very long installation). It would also make battery replacement difficult. I am looking at the 1U 250VA and 450VA APC UPS's right now as they're not very deep but it's hard to find one that can...

Wall-Mounted UPS: Why so hard to find??

I am trying to power protect a fiber-to-copper media converter / router installed in my network room that is wall-mounted. I really only have space for another wall-mounted device and not a full rackmounted form factor. I've seen such devices in the past but it looks like the only thing that APC...

    Small Rural Office Network Rebuild

The T1 will be dedicated to voice only. Currently, some moron suggested that they could save some money and get rid of their T1's and link this rural office with the main office via a DSL line at one end and cable internet at the other. Did they save money? Yes. But they go down about once a...

We never used it for odors. Just wanted to collect some of the dust and cat hair from the bedroom. I guess if there's a charcoal filter that's 24" you'd be set.

I've done this for years!! I buy the most expensive 24" filter you can find and the hardware store, tape it to a 24" box fan and let it rip! It actually collects a LOT before it needs to be replaced.

Suggestions for an 8-line phone system?

I'm already on a T1. The company I'm working with signed a retarded contract with a provider that has screwed them out of money for over a year now and they can't get out of it without severe financial penalties. The T1 is giving them 16 analog lines out and the remainder is for data (although...

Suggestions for an 8-line phone system?

Dude, I'm totally with you. Unfortunately, this office got screwed over by a phone and internet provider and has them locked in a contract they can't get away from. I actually promote hosted PBX services most of the time but these guys are simply trapped.

Suggestions for an 8-line phone system?

Does this look like it would be a decent gateway for 8 analog lines: http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Cisco-Telephony-Gateway-Spa8000-G1/dp/B000V2PHZA I think I'll still need to set up a Asterisk box and pick up some phone units but maybe this will at least get me started?
