I always get a laugh when I see "references available upon request" in a resume. When would they NOT be available?? OF COURSE they're available!! What would be a more useful statement might be if you worked for the CIA and can't divulge any references or maybe you don't have any to offer...

It has more to do with attention spans. I think many resume readers (of which I am one) just lose interest after a dense page of your life story. If you can't summarize your background and skills in one page, maybe you're just saying too much.

Dude, I'm totally with you. Unfortunately, this office got screwed over by a phone and internet provider and has them locked in a contract they can't get away from. I actually promote hosted PBX services most of the time but these guys are simply trapped.
