Then go for the Q9550S, there is 1 minor difference between the two but it realistically makes no difference, the 9550 has support for an instruction set that the 3360 doesn't.
Also, the temps you see below are with a NT06 with no active cooling, the power supply fan acts as the cooling as it...
Below is a screenshot of my Q9550S. I was under the same dilemma and just ended up going with the S version as it was going in a SUGO case. If you can find it at a decent price, get the L3360 chip. It's the server version that tends to be ~ $150 cheaper, at the time I ordered the Q9550 was $280...
Suggestion for a cool & reliable 40mm fan? Is there any way I can nicely and securely rig a 80mm fan (since I have a bunch laying around) onto this sucker?
Can anyone recommend some mounting brackets / techniques / tools for putting the OCZ vertex drives in this case? I currently have 1 that is just sitting there but I am ordering and 2nd soon and would like to have a clean finish to it. I know OCZ sells some mounting rails but I'm not sure if...
What if noise is a concern for me?
Since I use the built in graphics, I was thinking of taking an old vid card, cleaning off the PCB and mounting a very quiet 120 or 80mm fan so it can blow directly on the heat sink.
The heat sink also feels a bit loose, is it supposed to be this way?
I have the GIGABYTE GA-E7AUM-DS2H motherboard inside of a SUGO2 case where the north bridge temperature reading when idle is hovering around 70C when the room temp is 20C. It gets too hot to even put my hand on it.
Can someone recommend a passive heat sink that will fit in this case and cool...
Nice, ordered it up from nextdaypc.com for $257.12.
Oddly enough I got the idea from a newegg.com review for the Q9550S. Sucks that the guy didnt post it until after I placed my order... LOL
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115210
Great for overclocking...
Anyone seem to know the difference between these 2? Looking online they have the same specs except the L is meant for servers and costs ~$250 while the Q costs ~$400...
Having just bought the Q9550S I am very tempted to return it.
Some info...
The trayless bay looks like it has holes on the sides but thats just from the pictures...
I would put this in the 3.5 floppy drive bay the SG02 has.
Newegg also carries the item you mentioned but the sole review on it seems a bit puzzling?
OCZ OCZACSSDBRKT Solid State Drive...
Looks good to me! Any foreseeable issues by using this if I was to use in a RAID setting? Also, would I be able to just pop this into the SUGO case or would I need an additional adapter?
I've been patiently waiting, reading, and watching news for my SFF build and below are the parts I've put together. If anyone see's any issues please let me know as I will order the parts tonight / Monday morning so I can build it next weekend.
I've made a few other posts asking questions...
Thanks for the info guys!
As an update, I have been sidetracked by projects around the house that are taking longer than anticipated to complete. The good news is that as the time is going by, the Q9550S is slowly becoming available...
fwkitziger, thank you for the information, its very useful! Do you recall the temps at idle vs load between when the CPU was undervolted and stock? Also the ambient temp if its not asking too much! :)
spectrumbx, I have read the review and am aware of their conclusions... I am ok with paying...
fwkitziger, do you have any data on temps / wattage draw at the wall of your chip running at stock voltage vs the 1.000 voltage?
I might end up going the 9650 and underclock/undervolt route also but I don't want it to affect memory throughput... I wish Intel would unlock the multiplier :(
So what are the chances of being able to get a Q9550, and undervolt it to ~1.000 in order to get the benefits of the Q9550s without having to pay the price?
What exactly is the stock voltage of the Q9550 vs the Q9550s? The specs on Intel's web site have a rather large range...
edit: Intel's site states VID Voltage Range: 0.85V 1.3625V for both processors...
I'm guessing that as there is 2 box codes for the Q9550, one is the C1 and...
I'm getting tired of waiting for Intel to release the low wattage version of the Q9550 because I just want to build my SFF box. Given that I want this box to have low power consumption and low heat output (will move it to a HTPC role eventually) I want the newer chip with 65W vs 95W.
Should...
I like the power supply you recommended although it's a 500W unit. As the box is going to be on 24/7, power consumption is a concern. With it being a higher efficiency unit, just because its rated as 500W, doesn't necessarily mean that its going to be use that kind of potential power correct...
At this point I'm leaning towards the Gigabyte based on reading the reviews online and looking at the benchmarks. I think the only areas of concern are the heat generated by the north bridge and the location of the SATA connections.
Does anyone have this board and care to comment on its...
Ok, I have looked at the 3 motherboards you identified above. I think I'll stay away from the XFX as the reviews on newegg are not the best. I do not plan on overclocking as I don't think I will really need to. Stability is what I am after and I think that the processor I plan on getting should...
I will start with the answers to the obligatory questions to give some background...
1) I plan on using this machine as a "workstation", hosting multiple Virtual Machines, Converting/Editing Video, Photoshop, Remote Desktop access for when I travel, downloading, listening to music when home...
I'm planning on putting together the below with a Intel Q9550s (waiting for it to be released) and will probably change the power supply to a PC P&C 420W unit. The question is, will this cooler fit this case? If not, can someone suggest an alternative?
I will also gladly take suggestions on...
hmm, I was so close to buying the Seagate 1.5TB HD's until all of this firmware/raid issues started popping up. I was just waiting for the first production batch to be all bought up. Now it seems like I'll be waiting to do the same on these WD's... I hope my NAS can support 4 of these 2TB drives...
Basically it comes down to economics as with all things. I'll try and break it up based on sections for Apps, Games, Movies, MP3's.
A majority of people said $1000 is too much for Photoshop. Well yes it is for the average person but companies can afford these prices, the same companies that...
Do you have any pictures of what the cabling or hard drives that meet the 3G specs?
I'm just curious as to how its going to be like... Will it be the way SCSI cables are ? 1 cable with multiple ports ? Or will next generation hard drives have 2 SATA ports so that you "chain" the drives and...
If your budget allows for it you might want to consider having a hot spare in the array so the card can automatically rebuild in the event of a drive failure.
On an unrelated note, are you the "EnderW" that is involed in python scripts for XBMC releases?
I seriously reccomend buying the enclosure and hard drive seperately, the combinations are always a rip off that come out to almost $1 per gig.
For NAS BYTECC has this product which looks good on paper but I havent seen any reviews of it
As for personal reccomendation, I have had this for...
Ah ok, good to know. Thing is, I'm a bit weary since a comparable APC product costs 2x as much and APC seems to be the brand almost all companies rely on. The only reason I'm considering Belkin is because I remember hearing somewhere that APC had moved their factory or something like that and...
