It does not look like a connector to me either. Grounding is never a bad thing. It looks like a piece of metal foil that might be extending to the other side of the caddy to provide grounding or emi shielding.

What solution will work best might depend on how the second drive is connected. Is it an internal drive that will always be there, or is it an external drive that might be disconnected sometimes? If its an internal drive than creating a simlink like mentioned above would work, or you can format...

The mobo posted with the cheap cpu. Bios turned out to be the original version. Once updated it had no issues with the 3770K and appears to be working fine with everything plugged in. I didn't consider that these cpus are old enough that I would be able to just get one for next to nothing...

I do not have the original box, and located 2 stickers on the motherboard but neither appears to be a bios sticker or contain numbers that reflect bios version. I attempted multiple sticks in multiple slots, one at a time of course, always starting with the slot by the cpu, always the same...

As I do not posses a second gen cpu to install and test or update, initial inquiries have not turned up anyone that has one either. Hence the big question. Can an unsupported cpu also cause the memok light to go on?
