wanted iphone.. pref. 4gb because it's cheaper :)
ship to EU..
can prepay using paypal (though need a seller with good feedback and postcount for that.. )
ebay: caater
actually l2 cache size for "new" fx seems to be still 2x1M but they'll add 4M of L3 to some opterons and eventually, to fx..
as for conroe being 20% faster than amds offering.. realistic estimate.
it's gonna be 2.8 FX vs 3.33/1333 conroe EE (rumours) and 2.6 X2 vs 2.66/1066 conroe.
just...
bought a cm 360J for ~35 bucks recently and did a little comparison pm vs cm, both at 2240MHz:
3dmark2001SE, cm 18820, pm 20135
superpi1M, cm 38.265sec, pm 34.029sec
superpi8M, cm 7min 53.250, pm 7min 08.076
hecus pifast, cm 54.54, pm 52.62
i always thought that cm performs just like...
great thing is that you can buy one at ebay already
he can use escrow.. so there's small chance it's a fake..
but where's intel?
presler/cedar mill benches at anand, thg and somewhere else, presler ES chips at ebay..
seems like they don't care anymore for pentium4/D :P
edit: oh...
3D could be often more demanding than prime95 or pi..
i have steinberg nuendo as an excellent stability test.
often, if 24h prime and 3dmark loops at the same time won't crash, nuendo will :)
water temp was max 37.4C, never got over that during almost 24h p95 crunch...
mbm cpu temps were ~52C under load, however, P4GD1 was ~10C lower with the same cooling and cpu..
right now, load temps with inbox are 60ish, however - this relatively small aluminium heatsink
gets barely warm...
if You can, look for asus P4GD1 mobo.. unfortunately they are being discontinued and available only in europe..
but with p4gd1+ct-479 you'd have nice dothan+pcie+ddr1 rig :)
~week back i snatched a pm 780 dothan off ebay ($375 shipped).
thought i'd share my oc experience with it so far.
mobo is asus p4c800e-dlx, vcore,vdroop,vagp,vio=vddr mods + ct-479 adapter
first i tested with ct-479 inbox cooler:
def voltage (1.3125v in bios) - 2749MHz superpi1M stable
1.6v...
wasn't this problem cureable when flashing p4p800* bios to p4p8x?
do a lil search over ocforums or abxzone, i remember some talks about it.
p4p8x bios was often flashed to p4p800 series to attain much better memory timings and
ram stuck at 1:1 was the only drawback.
but - if crossflashing...
had sometimes ago mobile celeron running with passive intel inbox cooler :)
it was prime stable at that speed and voltage and cooling..
though it's mby ot, because it's not overclocked..
afaik it needed 1v for 2.5ghz and 1.2v for 3ghz.. don't remember :(
screenie
one friend of mine just did it (i persuaded him to do so :)) and now he is in trouble.
has acer laptop with ddr2-533 sodimms inside.
bad thing is that no matter if 400fsb chip is @ 100fsb or modded to 133 - it boots up with 400 strap and 3-3-3 timings and 1:2 ratio.
unfortunately those rams...
my pm 730 went 2.7ghz with inbox, 2.74ghz with water, 2.9ghz with cold water and 3ghz with cold water+pelt.
only thing that's better is the silence.. dothan is so cool that no fan is needed for wc radiator..
i have old asus x800pro vivo with arctic freezer on it, no vmods.
have been running 16p happily since bios mod was "discovered".
now recently it just locked up..
when loading winxp, it locks up every time at the same spot (just before windows loads GUI). i've tried many xt bioses since but...
afaik there isn't a p4 or p4 mobile 3ghz without HT.
but if it means something.. i ran a few tests with p4 3ghz @ 3.45ghz, fsb 230 and pentium M 1.6@ 2-4ghz, fsb 200, both with ram at 2-2-2-5 on asus p4c800e-deluxe mobo.
whereas p-m was much better at games, a little better in steinberg nuendo...
he'd need to bundle the combo with some good old cascade phase change cooler ;)
what i mean is that it's definately not an M but more likely p4 mobile celeron..
x86-secret compared clock-per-clock perfomance dothan vs banias (as it has 1M cache, it's comparable to celeron M).
http://www.x86-secret.com/articles/cm/g5m100-n/itxpm-6.htm
anandtech had some too, but they have like 1.8 dothan vs 1.6 banias.. so it's a little off...
it seems to be, that when using ct-479, c-M (1M cache) is only a few % slower than pentium M at the same clockspeed. so, look for anandtech or some other pent M scores and compare'em with a64 :)
there have been some overclocks of celeron M at the xtremesystems.org forums but they have all been...
just make sure you have cpu that works with older bioses.. otherwise you'll be in trouble.
i'd suggest you to read this massive thread about mobiles: http://www.abxzone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59931&highlight=mobiles
oh, ty, MrMeltdown, nice find indeed! :)
to teelek:
Unfortunately, this is known problem for asus motherboards
At some point, they stopped to support mobiles..
the earlier mobile northwoods are probably ok, but HT ones won't work.
there was a workaround, i remember, to flash...
well, the brief anandtech review with N0 step (2M l2 cache) xeons showed that they were
quite competitive with opterons already, winning 2 tests out of 3.
though amd is on their own league now with dc opterons.
was dempsey supposed to have some kind of arbitration bus (a la amd's srq) ?
if...
i'm pretty aware of all mobile p4's having EIST.
however, only pentium M's and mobile P4s from 3.33ghz (e0 step) have MSR-controlled EIST (fast) , whereas older mobiles had chipset-controlled EIST (slow, only two multiplier settings).
this is stated at the very same pdf MrMeltdown quoted...
try to change the mult and run superpi on each setting.
i just had an impression (and the same intel pdf also stated) that only mobiles
beginning from 3.33ghz would have the new EIST..
cpu-z is known for false readings with mobiles..
but if the superpi runs will indeed reflect the...
btw, did You try to overclock it?
btw i just looked at http://download.intel.com/design/mobile/SPECUPDT/30030311.pdf
those new cm's (350J,360J and 370) seem to be nice chips, with 1M cache,
the same stepping as 533MHz dothans and higher mult than low-speed pm's.
plus they're quite...
they will most likely have HT.
but they will be available not until 2006.. and they will be manufactured in 65nm..
there has been only theinq rumour, that they will require a completely new socket..
7**-something.. but not much is known at the moment.
from sxs112 at xtremesystems:
what makes this guy special is that he never has talked BS. he has been first with a64 90nm screenshots, turion screens and lots of pentium M-related stuff. he even mentioned
this asus p-m adapter when everyone though it was utopia.
as for dothans and mhz -...
the huge l2 cache of dothan masks most of the bandwidth-related issues..
there's no or little difference if using single- or dual-channel ram with dothan.
