Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

I had to remove that from the front post for now because some of the Flex mounting points were causing part of the manufacturing problems so I need to solve that first.

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

There's been some changes to interior layout between those temps and the current model. I had original hoped to do all these testings by the end of the year but I don't think I can get a metal prototype done in these few weeks. I started breaking the model down into 3D printable pieces and I...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

Updated renders! Took a while and had to learn a few new tricks, but now the renders should be better representations of the actual texture of Hutzy XS! (They're on the First Post, for anyone that's wondering where the renders are)

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

No ETA yet, since most manufacturers around here seem to be going into holiday mode.. I'll post updates when they happen though! I couldn't find a way to reduce the glossiness when I rendered, but I will go back to it and see if I can make a more realistic representation. The black parts are...

Looks like the 50FGGBN will also not have -12V rail though. Bummer.

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

You're right, it is weird that my card's core is ~860 even though it's advertised to have a base of ~1070 Mhz. I'm going to have to investigate why that is. I do not currently have a reasoning for this discrepancy. The only thing I can reassure you on is that I did not limit/boost the card in...

Engineering School Project: <5.5L Gaming Case W/ Full Sized ATX

How is the fan of the NH-L9i going to draw air if the ATX psu is right on top of it? You need some gap between the psu and the top of the fan and the height of this gap will direct affect how efficiently you can cool your CPU.

Engineering School Project: <5.5L Gaming Case W/ Full Sized ATX

I believe it's doable. You will need a low profile CPU cooler. My concern is how quiet you can keep this setup with something like an i7-4790k. Between the PSU and the CPU cooler, you'll only have 10-15mm of clearance with the lowest profile coolers.

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

It is not the front panel. It will stay the way it is! As for PSU, I believe the best course of action is to ship with at least the Amazon version with the 8pin GPU power connectors. Whether or not I can ship with modifications depends on the number of orders in the first batch.

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

Short Update: Running into a snag in the scaling of manufacturing the case. The current fab is having a hard time forming the XS consistently. I'm working with my current fab and looking for other fabs to see how I can resolve this ASAP.

So we finally see a product with heatsink-impeller design, TT Engine 27

I am quite confused by the Amazon product page of this cooler. If you look at the Q&A and the user reviews, there's some that date back to 2014 and 2015. Surely this didn't fly under our radar for 2 years. Maybe they reused an old product's page? Meaning all Q&A, user reviews, and user ratings...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

Yes, it will at least be like the version on Amazon. I can ask for further modifications from the supplier if I order them over a certain volume. The riser will not be a problem. I've ran these cards through my several risers in my testing: GTX 980 Ti GTX 970 GTX 750 Ti Never had an issue as...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

It's possible to get some space savings, but the nature of using more smaller components means a few things: 1) more expensive 2) more points of failure Those are the 2 things sacrificed up front to even have a chance at space savings. I'd personally love to see clamshell form factor...

    Flexible PCIe risers

Some cables' mounting point overlap but do not match, so that kind of "fit many" design can only do so much. For example, generics and the one I tried cannot be mounted on the same holes, but are close enough that it's impossible have mounting points for both separated. In XS, the mounting...

    Flexible PCIe risers

I tried this cable these past few days: https://www.amazon.com/EZDIY-Express-Flexible-Extension-Card-25cm/dp/B01CEIEWU4/ref=pd_cp_147_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=M6R6XK4MKHA6J2B6AMTG Which is more or less the same cable as the Thermaltake, and looks to be the same as the ModDIY one. It's...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

Aibohphobia has done work revolving around the STX form factor. Check out his STX160.0 build over at SFFnet STX is definitely is a step towards making the build smaller, but I think that the tradeoff of extra components and complexity -- along with scarcity of STX boards right now -- makes it...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

I'm back from my travels! The XS went through airport security checks of 3 different countries across 2 continents without a hitch. It it just powered-down electronics akin to a Playstation or Xbox after all; I was worried over nothing. Worth noting is that the SATA cable did pop off from my...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

A little update. No big news on prototype 2 just yet. I checked in with the manufacturer this past week and they're still working on it but not done (they've got a busy schedule with other projects as well, bummer). On another front, I'm prepping to go on vacation for a few weeks. So I get to...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

Let's stay civil here guys. Everyone -- new or old -- has their right to voice their ideas. Healthy discussions is what makes these forums work. There will not be front I/O for Hutzy XS. Every inch of space is either used for components (GPU or mobo length), or space for cabling, and it can get...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

The band is crucial to the structural integrity of the back side, so I can't remove it. You can imagine it from this rendering: And the band is pretty much standard in width compared to other industry chassis, so I'm sure GPU designers would have designed in mind that some of the vent holes...

    500W FlexATX PSU

I don't remember how I drew that conclusion, I think I meant at non-synthetic or gaming load, and the SSP300's fan's noise pitch is slightly lower. So given the same loudness, I perceived the SSP300 to be less annoying because of a deeper tone of noise. Just a guess. I should really start...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

Yup, the interior board by itself can hold the GPU and motherboard, so the current standard assembly procedure is to do that and then secure the interior board to the back U chassis It's easier to add/remove components separately without touching the interior board though, so I will need to...

    500W FlexATX PSU

I actually ordered it few days ago and received it yesterday. I tried it with the current system with the i5-6400 and Gigabyte GTX 970 mini (instead of the i5-4440S and GTX 980 Ti). The result is that with Prime95 and Furmark blasting on full load, it was drawing ~225W from the wall. I put my...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

Good eye on the details! The front panel's inner flanges also have that gap in the middle because that space is reserved for the interior middle board's flange to slot into: And the bottom was made to accommodate one 2.5" SSD when FlexATX is used. But when HDPLEX is used, there is enough...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

I just visited and caught up with the manufacturer this morning. They are testing ways to do the front round bending and ordering a custom tool set their schedule back a little bit. Prototyping is underway though.

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

That is with a 65W cpu and a GTX 980 Ti. With the 1060 and 1070 using much less power, I have no doubt the FSP400 is actually very acceptable. I have one that I'm using on my workstation with the 980 Ti, and I ordered another one from Amazon yesterday to test with the prototype. It will arrive...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

I prefer to not use the assumption of planning for average use, because that means the hardware is not used to its max potential, so why pack it in? I think the sweet spot for FSP 500 would be a maxed usage around 250-300W to keep everything really quiet. That should be enough for a 65W cpu +...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

It would be awesome to pack the most power into Hutzy XS as possible in theory, but in actuality I would want to pack as much as possible while keeping the FSP 500 quiet. A strike of balance between power and noise.

I tried, it left too little thickness on the side and I decided against it to prevent structural issues.

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

The tried-and-true <40mm cooler is the Noctua NH-L9i. I've tried a couple others, and while they are adequate, they don't measure up to how much heat the Noctua can move. I don't think I will be offering the solid-copper heatsinks with the case. It's a possibility to do a groupbuy for it at some...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

Thanks for the feedback on the new design! To your question: short answer: Yes, it's possible. No, I don't have an exact answer for you yet. Long answer: I have not looked extensively into high TDP usage yet. I checked out Linus' video with the 22-core build into the Dan A4. The solid-copper...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

I totally understand that people have different tastes and no matter the design, some will love it and some not so much. The goal for this latest change is to make sure I can move forward in making the 2nd prototype with my current manufacturer as soon as possible. As others have said, a set of...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

It is still anodized Aluminum, and the dimensions haven't changed. The corners are shaved off, and for the GPU side, the maximum length got shaved down by 0.5mm. But I think that's a fair trade-off. Worth noting though, is if the White version ever comes into existence, it will be powder coated...

Hutzy XS — Ultra Compact Gaming Case (<4L)

It could, but doesn't seem to change much. The current prototype covers the some of the fan as well. The idea is that the 500W should stay at low noise/heat because the system should be using <250W total. About the price, it's tricky because I don't know what the final price on the FSP 500 is...

IMPORTANT UPDATE!!! So I received my XS prototype v1 just over a month ago. Since then, I've shown it to you guys fully built. I also showed it to dozens of friends and family, and there's always one recurring "the thing is though.." Which is that it looks too "boxy", "blocky", "like a...
