Nintendo Discontinues the NES Classic Edition

They're clearly designing edition 2, which locks down the drive and adds an e-store for all those games that aren't on it yet.

Let RX 580 Overclocking hype train begin.. LOL

nVidia has continued scaling their computing ability, and demonstrated that their cards have broad AI applications, including in driverless cars. You can sell the $500 card for $2000 when you put it in a car. Their potential market has grown tremendously, and profit per sale as well. VR...

Im stuck with Freesync and it sucks....suggestions?

You have three options: 1) Wait. This might suck, but whatever. That extra feature will just have to remain off for a little bit. This will save the most money. 2) Switch to nVidia. A fine option, they make great hardware. You can start with a 1070 for the performance, and decide whether...

You had the Samsung. Did the PWM bother you? If yes, then you shouldn't get the Samsung, there's no point in buying something you'll be unhappy with.

Let's Talk about Fairly Testing GPU Performance R.E. Warming Up GPUs

I think the power envelope on the Nano is a bigger deal than the thermals for throttling, but then again that fan gets awfully loud. The reason you'd test on an open test bed is that it makes things like case airflow moot. A tester could easily bias the results by laying it out so that...

    R9 Nano Review Thread

How long did it take you to find the cherry tree? From the reviews I've seen, I'm not impressed. I expected the power savings to be much, much higher to justify the price. And this is from a guy that thought this card might have a market for corporate/compute loads (which hold up well, but...

AMD, Roy Taylor, the Nano, and the Press @ [H]

I think there's one clear bottom line. At the end of the day, AMD looks a lot worse for this whole incident than a negative review would look. It's just dumb to pick favorites, especially when you pick against people who will call you out on it.

AMD creates graphics-focused Radeon Technologies Group, taps Raja Koduri for GPU czar

There aren't many silicon node shrinks left, but that's why there is so much focus on new circuit designs (i.e. XPoint/memristors/etc.), photonics, nanotubes, quantum computing, etc. When you get close to the size of an atom in your circuits, you all of a sudden open up a lot of interesting...

    The directX 12 conspiracy

"Destroy" isn't a valid description of the comparison between NV and AMD this generation. The footing is fairly close, but NV has the upper hand at the highest price bracket. AMD is competitive across the lineup, and arguably wins on performance per dollar everywhere except for single-card...

AMD Not providing R9 Nano samples to several sites.

I wonder and wonder who this card is for. My suggestions of prosumer markets (existing hardware limits, for acceleration of Photoshop and the like) fell flat, as did my suggestion that it should be a server compute card, where they actually care about performance per watt and would value the...

AMD Radeon R9 Nano Video Card PAPER Launch @ [H]

Possible actual reasons for refusing [H] a card that DON'T involve a conspiracy: - This is not an overclocker's card, it is in fact an underclocked card compared to the Fury X. - It should be very, very easy to underclock a Fury X to speculate on Nano's performance. Why hasn't anyone put...

HBM death nail? GDDR5X and 8Mb chips sampling

HBM isn't just a better RAM technology. It's a platform-level technology for AMD for both their GPU and their APU business. I wouldn't be surprised if you saw AMD selling HBM-equipped APU interposers with their next generation to speed up most workloads. It's like their Crystalwell. Oh, and...

Hawaii matching Maxwell 2?? What's happening under Ashes of the Singularity?

It's very possible (even likely) that nvidia does something with their drivers before any games are significantly affected to mitigate or eliminate the problem. We're talking about a driver that has literally zero games available for it.

Worst time to try and solve an ongoing issue, advice?

Have you tried underclocking? It's not an ideal solution in terms of performance, but it may let you survive the upgrade bug until VR becomes a thing.

Corsair Graphite Series 780T Lucky Draw!

I enjoy a subtle, near-professional look in my computer cases. The aesthetic of both the Obsidian and Carbide series are pleasing to me, and will probably be the foundation of my next build. What I'd like to see? Less space dedicated to optical drives, and maybe some innovative layouts for a...

Intel SSDs Based On 3D XPoint Technology Next Year

Intel needs to drive people to buy new intel technology somehow. The same performance with less power consumption is nice, but not a driving factor. Upping the performance of storage is nice, but not great. Ultimately the technology has two big use cases: high-performance workloads (i.e...

DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 Converter Update

What Exactly Is A Draw Call

So DX12 and enabling more draw calls is important because it will make porting games easier? I.e. consoles had a performance advantage because they could use the simpler assets? So we should see better performance on cheap console ports in the future?

What Exactly Is A Draw Call

Helping devs helps games which helps gamers. The article puts forth the hypothesis that making more draw calls possible will enable simpler art assets while lowering graphics load. The example was, instead of a bunch of invisible polygons creating a skeleton to tie three birds together, you...

Are you guys going to upgrade to a 6700k when its out?

Running an i7 920 and really thinkinig about waiting still. 5% upgrades over the previous generation make me regret not getting a 4790 instead of wanting a 6700. I'm seriously considering getting a Xeon X5660, but my MSI X58 Pro wouldn't be very happy about it.

    New Samsung 4k for everyone.

I bet it's because the only reason you'd ever want a 48" 4k television would be to use it as a computer monitor, so "regular" sales are really low!

    AMD Radeon R9 Fury X 4K Video Card Review @ [H]

This clearly isn't a delayed-debut card. If it could've been on the market before the 980 ti, AMD would've saved a lot of face in releasing a card with worse performance and worse features at the same price point as an nvidia card. If it was delayed, there would be plenty of supply right now...

    Classifieds. They have arrived.

Pricing keeps going up because we're stuck on 28nm. They keep needing to make bigger and bigger chips to increase performance, which costs more money. A nice die shrink to 16 or 14nm, making the chips a third to a quarter of their current size, will be great for pricing next year.

    New Samsung 4k for everyone.

Thanks for checking intermediate resolutions, I didn't realize it was done on the graphics card. It looks like I'd need to upgrade my video card for the full benefit of all those pixels. Or wait for the DisplayPort->HDMI 2 converter.

    New Samsung 4k for everyone.

I know the "use every pixel" options-- 30hz or chroma degradation-- but I'd just buy a cheaper TV if I were willing to settle with that. What inspired my thought was the people who are doing 21:9 custom resolutions. What is the highest resolution I can display at 60hz 4:4:4 over HDMI 1.4? Is...

    New Samsung 4k for everyone.

My post from a few pages went unanswered, probably because it was the last one on a page... I have a slightly older video card (AMD 7950) which I'm not going to part with immediately. I was thinking of using a Samsung TV as this year's computer upgrade while saving for a 2016 computer revamp...

    New Samsung 4k for everyone.

What is the highest resolution that can be shown at 4:4:4 over HDMI 1.4? I'm considering getting one of these TVs as a monitor but I have a not-too-old-yet graphics card (AMD 7950)... My PC upgrade is probably going to happen with the next generation of chips, but I might not be able to resist...
