Just a small suggestion for the next revision: what if the paper slip were labeled a "quick start guide" and said "for full manual, follow this link:" That way there's no way for someone to think they were holding the whole manual.

Not terribly uncommon, no. Plus I've always found Gigabyte boards to be a little fussy.

That entirely depends on what it is you're playing, mate. Personally, I bought an i3-7350k and couldn't be happier. Why? Because it's running at 4.7 GHz without any fine tuning, and is half the price and half the wattage of an i7. Sure, a six core ryzen is an awesome chip, and I'd love to play...

    DNK-PRIME. CNC Milling PC case

The name of this thing just kills me. I think (well, at least I hope) that it wasn't done intentionally and DNK is an acronym that means something to you, but... I can't help but see it as "Dank Prime" every single time I read it.

I believe there will be a six core i7. I believe there will be a 65w i7. Do I believe there will be a 6 core, 65w core i7 that boosts up to 4.5 GHz? Oh helllllllll no. If intel had technology like that (which, mind you, we're talking about something along the lines of a 40% increase in...

... I spent a couple hours this morning writing up a full report on the mods I had done, and then trying to fix a weird issue that it had with spoilers. One of the things I tried was reporting it, thinking that would get a mod to look at it and figure out what went wrong. My entire post was...

Fair enough. I can certainly understand the frustration, and I'm sorry to hear about it. Hopefully the cargo ship has a fair tailwind on its way to you. :)

Hmmmm. I know that the 1080 and 1070 have the same reference PCB, and I wouldn't be surprised if the 1060 did as well... However, I do know that the FTW+ series, as good as they are, don't use a reference PCB, so I'm afraid you're probably SOL.

Check if the fan spins. There have been a couple reports of that particular card coming with the fan somehow not plugged in, but the card still reporting fan speed to the system, which is mind-boggling. If that's not the case, then yes, replacing the cooler with a FE cooler should be both...

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

Gotcha, missed that you were both sealing AND adding 40mm fans. Personally, I'd just go for a FE cooler and not worry about adding a bunch of extra noise to my computer to use a cooler that doesn't work as well for my case and only ekes out a few hundred more MHz anyways.

It might help the temperature of the CPU be cooler, but why would it help the gpu be cooler when the issue is that it's recirculating its own exhaust?

Been out of the Pc game for 5+ years need help

Ok. First tip I have for you: pcpartpicker.com That'll give you a good idea about compatibility and budget. Second tip: There's a stickied forum post specifically talking about asking advice for a new build. In particular, it has a list of questions. If you'd kindly answer them, it would go a...

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

I'm sorry to hear that you hate it, mate. I hope you haven't returned it yet, though, because there's an easier, faster solution! The MSI Aero OC used a reference PCB. That means that fixing the thermals is as easy as finding a founders' edition cooler (and just the cooler) to put on your...

Hi Berk, Unfortunately you've got kind of awkward timing at the moment. The fundraising campaign is now over, which means that it was successfully funded and Sentry cases are being shipped out in waves to backers. However, it also means there's no way to purchase a case directly at this...

That's strange - never once have I seen a delivery guy with Amazon branding. I'm not quite that close to one, but there's a HUGE Amazon distribution center just outside of my relatively small town - it's a hub that takes in everything from the east coast and distributes it across California. I...

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

And that is because Noctua is an awesome company that doesn't just make shit up. Their numbers can ALWAYS be trusted and are almost always low-balled; that "65W" number on the l9i covers a 65W chip that might be overclocked, in relatively hot ambient temperatures, while still retaining the level...

Does Amazon Prime have its own shipping service where you are? For me, Prime packages show up by either UPS or DHL. (And it's a horrible scam, anyways; I despise amazon prime now. When you actually got your package in two days, it was great... But now they expect you to pay the subscription for...

I'm gonna pick on this, because most of the other points have been covered and the others are... kinda silly. (I mean, listing "wake on LAN is unconfirmed" as a con? Seriously. Okay, if that's something you need, it's a con, but you're going to know it. Listing it as a con for the general...

Same deal here; on the first build, I was so worried about getting it all set up and fighting with the cables (whoo boy is that an intense puzzle) that I didn't even think about cooler orientation. I'm about to try to push my i3 from 4.7 to 5.0 GHz; if it has issues with it then I'll buy a...

CIRCLE ONE: Portable Mini-ITX professional workstation

Why take the legs off? I could see them working just fine; they just need to be bent out at, say, a 20-degree angle or so. I think that would take care of most of the aesthetic and stability concerns people are having.

    Before asking NCASE about Micro-ATX...

Heh, okay, yeah, you might have a point there. :p Interesting point about mATX being neglected; I hadn't thought about it, but you're absolutely right. (What a shame, though; I, for one, was hoping for an industry trend towards smaller and smaller form factors becoming the new standard.)

    Before asking NCASE about Micro-ATX...

The rounded one is absolutely gorgeous! But why so big? Seems like mATX could fill those needs just fine, yeah? I'd rather be limited to using a slim radiator but get a smaller case for it; SFF is expected to come with a couple trade-offs here and there.

Motherboard with wifi and front SSD (m.2 or msata) slot?

the first option I can think of is the ROG Strix Z270i - it has both wifi and a top-mounted m.2 slot, though its positioning is less than ideal and I'd just leave the "heatsink" off it. However, there are probably some cheaper options. If you go to pcpartpicker, you should be able to fiddle...

Hey guys! Help me out a little bit here? I've got one last piece before my build is "complete" (in terms of what my ultimate plans for it were), and that's the power button. I was originally going to wait for an RGB vandal switch, but it looks like it's going to be a long time before...

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

Ok, let's see what I can answer: 1) People have tried replacing the fan on the SF600, but not just flipping it. The reason for that is because nobody yet has had hot air exhausting from the CPU cooler. The PSU fan is right up against the side panel, so if the CPU cooler is intake, then the PSU...

Project Orthrus - Smallest SLI mATX case (V2)

Just saw something linked in the Ncase thread that might be valuable for you: If the quicklinks were positioned just above your pump, you could use the external reservoir for both filling and draining.

Run it on the motherboard box! :p I feel you. My graphics card just died on me, and I saw it as a sign that it was finally time to leap on that 1070... And then I saw the sign that said it was $450.

    SFF Build for Wife

Oooooh, okay. In that case I'll point out that the node 202 in horizontal positioning doesn't give great airflow to the GPU vents, and so putting a radiator there might be too restrictive. (Also, I'm not familiar with the dimensions of the Mac Mini, but based on the monitors, the node 202 might...

    SFF Build for Wife

An external res is definitely a possibility, though it's infrequently done in an aesthetically appealing way, IMO. I'd look forward to seeing your take on it. One thought I had regarding the case - especially if you're considering omitting the GPU - is a small-footprint tower case like the...

I'm opening this offering to both you and every other new-builder who is tackling their first build in the Sentry. I've built a lot of computers, some of them watercooled, most of them small-form-factor. In a nice roomy ATX case, I'd tell you to just find a good youtube video, watch it through...
