GHOST S1 - When both size & performance matters

From the "2000 words..." email it says However, in the Slack chat room there is no indication to be found when they expect the samples.

GHOST S1 - When both size & performance matters

Yup. The Silverstone SX600G (also gold rated fully modular) has existed almost 4 years now. The Silverstone SX700-LPT first shown at Computex almost 3 years ago. Moreover, we have been running high power draw GForce 680/980 and original Titan with the ST45SG before that. PSU requirements are...

GHOST S1 - When both size & performance matters

Problem is that it's not all of the backers. Patrick apparently sent everyone an invite, but only 920 logged into Slack. And I am lurking there, most of the discussion is between about a dozen regulars who like chatting. So it's really not a community project like NCase was.

    Corsair SF600 600w SFX Powersupply

Is there any independent review with actual load testing? RHTX doesn't show anything yet. And has Corsair mentioned why there was no 80Plus testing done at Ecova, despite Corsair using the 80Plus logo in their marketing? Fan noise is important of course, but before I order I'm still wondering...

    Slim drive came with molex

Those molex-to-slimsata tend to look cheap as well as being cheap. And then you need a molex cable from your PSU, which in the 850P2 is half a meter long and has 4 ugly molex plugs. So better solution is the Startech SLSATAADAP so you can just use the regular sata power cable from the PSU...

    Silverstone SX700-LPT 700W Platinum SFX-L

"Working overtime"? A modern 700W PSU from a quality manufacturer can really do 700W. A platinum PSU is also platinum at 100% load (that's actually part of the 80Plus certification test). I think the fear comes from previous generation power supplies which (due to original ATX specifications)...

    Silverstone SX500-LG 500W Gold SFX-L

Ecova marketing is clearly working here and that's why Tony will pick to release a platinum 700W instead of a gold 850W :) Matt: it's not two different power supplies that Phuncz is suggesting for the theoretical SFX-L flagship. It's 1 single device, with two different ratings. We're discussing...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Pump speed, simple. Set fans to max, set pump to max. Run Prime95 or similar. Now reduce speed of the pump gradually, noting down each CPU temperature v pump rpm. Note also the points where pump noise becomes acceptable and when it sounds quiet. Then do it again from low to high speed. This...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Totally agree with Necere's comments: you should forget "cooling capacity" because it's not a helpful tool and cannot directly be related to the power consumption of your components without including many other variables in the equation. But your comment above shows you understand the issues...

    Silverstone SX500-LG 500W Gold SFX-L

Very possible the 700LPT is somewhat downrated in order to achieve platinum efficiency rating. Since efficiency for some reason is tested at percentage of rated max power, and 50% @ 110V needs to be the highest efficiency, manufacturers can arbitrarily shift the curve left or right to land with...

I was thinking about recessed connectors as well. I understand why it was done on the SFX models, but even there you can win enough space inside to put them further back.

How did you come to figure 2-5% are having issues? How many do they sell each month? How many are getting RMAs for fan/coil noise? Where could you find this information?

    Silverstone SST-SX600-G 600w Gold SFX

Came to answer you. Found Phuncz has already said what I wanted to say. Also... TDP =/= power consumption. A skylake CPU is never going to draw close to 91W unless you are using the iGPU and the avx2 capability and all four cores with hyperthreading simultaneously. Think more like 40W using...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

If I could go back on my purchase I might have picked the AEIII instead exactly for the heatsinks. I ended up having to dremel an old gtx 660ti heatsink to fit under the the AEIV. Also I had to use 3mm fat washers as spacers to get the right height on the bolts. I'm not sure about the answer...

NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Well, it's Cowsgomoo's idea But as you see, he himself never tested all four combinations of airflow: 1) intake side + intake bottom; 2) intake side + exhaust bottom; 3) exhaust sides + exhaust bottom; 4) exhaust side + intake bottom. Obviously, and unlike watercooling, #1 intake+intake...

Yes. Gelid has provided such an adapter for many years. Should be easy to get in Europe at least. Even better is the mini-pwm splitter from ModDIY http://www.moddiy.com/products/Mini-4%252dPin-GPU-to-2-x-4%252dPin-PWM-Fan-Adapter.html If you have an old GPU and a soldering iron (can be a...

Custom SFF PC Packs 10 TFlops of Performance featuring AMD Nano.

Panels were anodised first black; then the 'unfinished' edges were carved out by CNC machine; de-burred and polished by hand and then anodised clear. It's a great technique and looks even better close up than on photos.

    Silverstone SX700-LPT 700W Platinum SFX-L

True. Having tried the SX500-LG and SX600-G now, and since I still have a couple of those Noiseblocker PC-P fans spare, I'd buy another ST45SF-G before either of the former. :D

    Silverstone SX700-LPT 700W Platinum SFX-L

Ah ha the fabled efficiency sweet spot - I've never been convinced :) If you purchase your PSU based on twice your rig's theoretical max load, then your PC spends all its time below 50% efficiency. However, PSUs are comparatively more efficient above 50% load than below it. Under 20% they are...

    Silverstone SST-SX600-G 600w Gold SFX

Yeah voltage profile of the SX600-G is 3-5V instead of ST45SF-G which went up to like 10V maybe. So it will work at idle, and all will seem fine, but at load it won't be moving enough air. The PSU will be overheating and lifetime will be cut short.

    Silverstone SST-SX600-G 600w Gold SFX

That's advice from 10 years ago ;) Modern "Haswell ready" PSUs such as the Silverstone Strider range don't need any load to be jump started. You can short PS_ON with any GND to start it. Used to be green wire to any black wire, but the SX600-G has only black wires, so refer to pinout diagram...

    Silverstone SX500-LG 500W Gold SFX-L

AFAIK it's usually that the OEM designs for 2 rails according to (outdated) ATX12V v2.x specification, and it's Silverstone who asks for a custom variant with a single rail. Physically the difference is a bunch of extra solder connecting the two rails, and presumably the components dealing...

    Silverstone SST-SX600-G 600w Gold SFX

The Noiseblocker PCP 80x15mm has the wrong voltage profile, is only suitable for swapping on the ST45SF and ST45SF-G. Do not swap the fan in the SX600-G for any other 80x15mm.

This ^^ And furthermore: rad thickness is often overestimated. Fan speed and frontal surface area are much more important. For example, the cooling performance of the Alphacool UT60 is worse at 600rpm than the Alphacool ST30 - because doubling depth of the space between fins restricts...

2009 old heh... Before AIOs, there was the Vapochill - a sort of refrigerator for CPUs. People used to attach them to GPUs too. Edit: also found review of stylish Swiftech "all-in-one" from 2002 which has CPU and GPU cooling blocks...

Nice try :p But dreaming of it and actually getting one together is slightly different things. QinX proved the viability and showed good thermals. This is what I imagine tips an R&D manager between saying "no budget for such nonsense" and "someone did what?! let's get on that asap".

    AMD Project Quantum

Sure, it's got a longer card  Read again what I quoted from Aiboh, and remember that the central idea of sandwiching waterblocks between the PCBs was first implemented by QinX in a build log thread on this forum. What I'm driving at, in case it wasn't obvious: is this another...

In fact the slot is perfectly sized. I've tried adjusting the screws to their minimum and maximum, and even aim the drive at different angles. I wasn't able to get a disc to scrape the case panel when ejecting (M1v1).
