I second CrashPlan for just data.
If you need more than just data backup, a bare-metal restore solution, look into StorageCraft and their off-site product, great but pricey.
Most of the threads and info I find is from pre-untangle 10.x and older versions of Mikrotik. So, as of today, what are you using?
Example setup; two WAN sources, 75 moderate users, business network.
For this conversation, I'm just interested in QoS, nothing more.
We've been using 3CX and Yealink phones for the past three years, love it. 3CX is a software based PBX system, it's running on a virtual win7 box w/ a voip provider for the phone lines. We had a box that allowed us to use analog lines, I don't recall the name but I know its common to do that...
Does anyone do anything besides removing them from local admin group?
Business network with windows AD controller. Just researching some options for clients that have some tech savvy users that need a bit of protection but maybe not be completely stripped of admin rights for program...
The top tier DNS providers don't do spam filtering like Nettica did, going to find something different to replace that service. DNS Made Easy is looking like a nice fit for us.
Thank you for the replies!
We currently use Nettica for hosting DNS for our clients, they were just bought out by Dyn. We have used Dyn when they were DynDNS but that was for dynamic dns, not a solution like we have now with Nettica.
What we use Nettica for is DNS hosting, A records, CNAME, TXT, SPF, etc., their spam...
We are experiencing a large growth spurt, I'm curious how other IT shops do their day to day operations? Currently we have for people. Two are system admin level, one is almost system admin level and the last is a 3/4 time intern.
We use Autotask, we process tickets via a support email...
I have a Verizon mifi in rural Illinois. I get 4G speeds between 4-15Mb up and down. I play FPS's over this with no problem at all (mainly TF2). My pings range from 50 - 100ms. Obviously, you need to try for servers close to you but I have many to choose from.
I do quite allot of remote...
We've never had to do this before: best practice on setting up an additional subnet on a physical network?
For example, main network is 10.1.1.1, we need to setup an additional 10.1.2.1 to support more devices. We need both subnets to see each other and the servers on 10.1.1.1. We also need...
What are some of you folks deploying for clients? We've been using ORF and Untangle at a few places.
Just keeping my eyes open in case there is a real solid solution we don't know about...
Interesting - Video Insight gives you the camera license for free if you buy their recommended camera from them, Advidia brand. Camera's range from $250 - $850.
Nice. We only do a few installs each year, Synology you have to buy a camera license for each camera which gets pricey.
We've done a few installs using Synology NAS's w/ Axis camera's These are working well, the clients love the mobile software, accessing the camera's in real-time via their cell phone and tablet has been a huge selling point.
We have started to look at other vendor's Video Insight is one...
For the past ten years, we have mostly done Sonicwall. We started to deploy Untangle about two years ago, along with a few Sonicwall's. Just curious what others are using.
Edit 03.17 @ 9:14pm - fixed title, changed from router to firewall
Is anyone setting up clients with virtual MS servers? We have some small clients that I'm considering setting up Server 2012 but at a data center.
If so, any recommendations?
Watch Amazon and buy from Streakwave when your desperate. That's what we do. We keep 5 - 10 in stock now, we sell them enough that its worth it - and there so cheap.
Sounds advice, thank you. I'm going to start working with pfsense tonight and see what I can do.
Thanks for taking the time to write this up, I really appreciate it!
RocketTech: I might have to look into pfsense, we have used untangle in some basic small business offices. That has been working out great. We also utilize Sonicwall's,
Grentz: I thought about the captive portal but came to the same conclusion - consoles would be a nightmare.

We have started to get some clients that have apartment buildings that offer broadband with their lease, currently most have a few broadband connections and a switch.
I would like to evolve this into a system that is more intelligent. Maybe a switch that we can limit port speed on, or some...
I found some older threads but wanted to get some fresh opinions.
Looking for a program like this:

I've yet to demo it, but plan on installing it and testing it out.
Ideally I would like a product that could be installed at...
I had some on order (Ubiquit's) then Fab emailed by days end saying they had just ran out of stock.
Any other vendors have stock that people may know about?
