    Dell S-Line Screens - S2740L, S2440L, S2340M, S2340L, S2240M

I've been waiting for a 24" VA panel from Dell for a while now and I was pleased when Dell announced S2440L. However, couple of things are bothering me about this monitor: - the dark overshoot. Review from PC Monitors (http://pcmonitors.info/reviews/dell-s2440l) shows that this overshoot even...

Many new Dell VA monitors coming. 22-27"

Meh - time to move onto Samsung SA650. http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/24.htm#new_dell_monitors

Many new Dell VA monitors coming. 22-27"

Brilliant! I've been wanting to buy a monitor with one of the newer *VA panels, but have been sceptical going for Benq given the poor electronics (overdrive) and QA issues. I have better hopes of Dell doing a good job - bring it on! Oh, and please make those 24 inchers 16:10. 16:10 P2412H...

    Dell U2412M

10e, as always, thanks for your detailed feedback - much appreciated! Benq introduced a new "premium" mode for AMA in EW2430 though reviews don't seem to indicate too much improvement. Real pity. Anyway, it's good to see IPS making good progress in terms of contrast. 1000:1 and above is great.

    Dell U2412M

For those purposes, I wouldn't recommend U2410 at all. In my opinion, the only other consideration for you should be the Benq EW2430V with AMVA panel, the only downside being it is 1080p. 16:10 is much more suitable for programming. 10e, if I'm not mistaken, you seem to have used a Benq *VA...

    New colorimeters from X-Rite.

Here's a review: http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/reviews/profiling/i1_display_pro.html Personally, I'd go for this only if you have (or plan to get) a monitor not supported by your current colorimeter. I bought i1 D2 for half the price and it serves its purpose just as well.

    24", 1920x1200 (16:10), IPS recommendations?

I'm sure you meant Asus PA246Q.

    Dell U2412M

Oh? I didn't know that distinction - thought hardness of the coating implied how harsh it'll be.

Which LCD to choose (no IPS pls)

Benq EW2430V. Like most other monitors, just make sure (if you can) you buy from some place you can send it back should you get one with issues. I doubt the Samsung PLS panel will be capable of good contrast ratios like the *VA panels. You can wait if you can, otherwise *VA panel for sure.

    Dell U2412M

Meh - if so, the anti glare coating won't be any different than the coating on U2410: "Surface treatments: Hard coating(3H), Anti-Glare treatment of the front polarizer"

Before I pull the trigger, why is this x-Rite Eye One Display 2 so much cheaper?

Perhaps, if you can afford it - it is fairly new, so we are yet to see how good the hardware is. The older i1D2 has mixed reviews w.r.t LED backlit monitors and it looks like it has some deviation with color temperature for LED backlit monitors. Hopefully, others here can share their...

Before I pull the trigger, why is this x-Rite Eye One Display 2 so much cheaper?

Wow - that's a whole $50 less than on amazon. I ordered one recently and I am yet to receive it. This is being heavily discounted since they are launching follow-up models (as I unfortunately learnt after placing my order): http://www.xrite.com/company_press_room.aspx?News=673 Here is a review...

So why is IPS considered so much superior to TN?

I don't see how backlight bleed has anything to do with the panel technology - more to do with QA. I'm not buying that, especially given the QA issues with the current range of eIPS/H-IPS panels from LG. I'm going with similar arguments for getting myself a BenQ EW2430. Owning a S-IPS panel...

So why is IPS considered so much superior to TN?

I have read those reviews regarding EW2430, but we still don't know about inter-unit variability, as detailed in the link at the end of the PC Monitors review. They rated EW2420 equally well, but a lot of users had issues with horrible backlight bleeding and the LED ripple effect. For some...

So why is IPS considered so much superior to TN?

Many thanks for the clarification. I hardly game nowadays, so the response time isn't a problem for me. I do watch a lot of movies and the enhanced contrast (assuming less backlight bleed) would be really good. With this model, I hope BenQ has fixed some of the QA issues with the EW2420.

So why is IPS considered so much superior to TN?

Does that affect only the darker tones or does the entire screen turn gray? And, how bad is it from a distance, say, 5 ft? Do you have to sit straight and watch the monitor head-on, or can you watch from an angle? Ideally, I'd like to be able to watch movies on this from a distance with my...
