I haven't heard of any spectacular 16:9 14 in. screens so I'm not sure it would be worth the hassle/price to replace it with another existing one. It is an interesting question though and I'd be interested in a solution as well. Congrats on the T420s by the way :).
Ivy Bridge will be demonstrated at Computex 2011 in June so you could at least wait til then to make your decision if you don't have/want to buy immediately.
That doesn't sound good. I'm also contemplating between the two notebooks and while I don't care that much about screen quality, that just sounds terribly inconvenient. I may have to reconsider.
