    Build an SAN with ZFSGuru

Hi all :) Im looking into this again. FreeNAS8 don't seems to have an iSCSI initiator. Can ZFSGuru be used as an iSCSI initiator? I like to connect my Synology box over iSCSI to an central filserver. Maybe I just should use an normal Ubuntu Server install instead.

    Build an SAN with ZFSGuru

Hi :) Maybe I got it wrong out, try to explain better: Say I got 2 servers running ZFSGuru. This 2 got 6discs eatch, configured at raidz1. Bouth servers has exported all storage to iSCSI. On server nr 3 (the controller) I then wana connect to bouth iSCSI (say this server has 3NICs, 2 for...

    Build an SAN with ZFSGuru

Hi :) I got this crazy idea. As far as I know, an SAN is an controller server with some storage units connected directly to it over eg iSCSI or Fiber Channel. My thougt is that if I use, say 2 server with ZFSGruru, set the discs up and export them as iSCSI block devices, an controller...

    ZFSguru NAS fileserver project

@RedHams: I see :) So, as long the ashift=12, everything is good, right? As for now, the Pool page dont show the sector sice at all. But that the GPT label are gone from the pool page and the 4K discs are totaly gona from the I/O Monitor is kinda confusing.
  28. S

    ZFSguru NAS fileserver project

Yupp, everything good there: [root@zfsguru /]# ls /dev/gpt/ Raid5_1 Raid5_2 Raid5_3 Raid5_4 Raid5_5 Raid5_6 start [root@zfsguru /]# :) But according to the last command, the pool still runs at 4K, but in the GUI it show 512, right? Thats kinda confusing for the "none-terminal-guru" user.
  29. S

    ZFSguru NAS fileserver project

They are formatted with GPT, yes :) If I run the command you said, I get: [root@zfsguru /]# zdb -e Storage_1 | grep ashift zdb: can't open Storage_1: File exists ashift=12 [root@zfsguru /]# I tried the export/reboot/import stuff, but still it likes to use the drive entry

    ZFSguru NAS fileserver project

Sub-mesa: How can it be normal that the 4K sectors go back to 512 after an reboot? If I run the "glabel status", only the boot drive show, not the data (WD) drives. The "Disk bandwidth monitor" page dosent show the data drives too. Maybe I should reinstall ZFSGuru.

Something more funny. After I changed the disk, I configured it with 4K sector sice, and the disks was named "GPT/Raid5_1", "GPT:/Raid5_2" and so on. After I shut it down, moved it, and booted it, the sector-sice says 512K, and the member disk names are: "ada0p2", "ada2p2", "ada3p2" and so...

Thats all? No need to do anything special in the formating of the discs? As far as I see, an stand alone disk need to start on sector nr 2048. Standar in ZFSGuru I see its an 1MB offset in the format, but I dont know what sector that mean.
