Even though I can’t afford one myself right now, I’ve been keeping an eye on laptop for when I pick one up next year. Spotted these two deals and they seem pretty hot to me. YMMV

It’s got a lot of that Ubi-crap design that I hate (several categories of missions turned into a map littered with icons etc), but somehow Warner Bros didn’t screw it up and Avalanche Studios made one helluva game. Fun, visceral, engrossing, doesn’t overstay its welcome. Awesome sauce. It has...
Old news around here, but I was on vacation cruising around another continent for a few weeks. Now that I’m back and have had a chance to catch up on the news, just wanted to chime in. Kyle, I’ve been a reader of the [H] since 1998 when I was in college (I just happened to forget my first few...
Agreed. A lot of the long-term value from buying high-end cards is nearly impossible to deduce till long afterwards. Ditto when a card is a relative bust. I remember when the 8800gtx/gts came out. I balked at the price because I was still content with my 6800gt, instead opting to buy an Xbox 360...
Not all fabrication processes are equal; 10nm at company A does not spin nearly the same as company B. I think it was David Kanter who wrote a pretty good article about this a few years back. Global Foundries has been inferior to TSMC since at least the mid-2000s, and TSMC in turn trails Intel...
Kyle, any chance y’all could post a graph of the mainstream card pricing over the same span? It’d be interesting to see how it compares vs the halo products.
I agree with many of the prior comments. I also believe that:
Over the next 12-18 months the RTX series is intended to remain slotted...
Beyond excited to see that a ver 2.0 is (hopefully) coming this year. High probability I’ll be ordering the expected black case when the indiegogo launches, but my gf would squeal with delight if at some point ya’ll offered Sentry 2.0 in something more gf/wife-friendly like brushed...
The xb270hu comes in two flavors; LCD and IPS (denoted by a suffix that follows the first part of the model name). The IPS version sold out, all they have left is the LCD.
Deals were smoking hot, and I was dang tempted to pull the trigger on either the xr341ck or perhaps the xb270hu. Decided to...
Price is fine, but that stand is hideous, just like the Acer z35. Other than that, 144Hz gsync IPS panels are hitting sales a lot more commonly nowadays. Microcenter was just running a deal where you could get 20% off Acer monitors with the purchase of almost any cpu. That meant you could pick...
Newegg is OoS on the HyperX Skyn mousepads. I had it in my cart, but it was stealth yanked during the checkout process. Bummer since I actually wanted it and had canceled my amazon order just to jump on the newegg freebie. I politely talked to newegg on the phone, and was hooked up with a $15...
3 things run counter to that line of thinking:
1) Asus pg348q will almost assuredly cost over $1000, and probably a heckuva lot more ($1300? $1500?). If instead it's ~$800 or less, it's ubiquitousness will be the monitor equivalent of the old nvidia 8800 vanilla/gt/gts. Either way it'll...
Rather tempting. Da egg sells it for $849, so pricing is good. Some reviews mention backlight bleed, but it seems like half the time the people complaining about BLB don't bother to adjust brightness etc. Anyone own this thing to provide some insight?

Looks like a good deal to me. Pretty tempting except:
A) I'm holding out till Nvidia and AMD release their new die-shrunk vid cards and
B) I'd prefer to get something widescreen and a bit bigger (30" or more).
Still, that monitor is pretty awesome. Friendlier to single-gpu setups vs 4k-ish...
Seems like a decent deal?
Also looks like the board includes at least 1x usb 3.1 port:
newegg link for comparison. Some users comment about needing a bios flash for stability, but then again looks like some of 'em ain't doing fresh OS installs.
man, even at $170 it's a tempting deal, but 1yr warranty = pass.
If I was running a full cloud backups, raid 6, or something with more fault tolerance, I'd probably bite, but with all my stuff being raid 5 or simply mirrored along with minimal off-site backup, reliability is king.
Still a good...
Agreed on the $219 gigabyte, great deal. Buying from a trustworthy vendor beats taking a risk on used goods from ebay etc. Good post OP.
I'm holding out till nvidia/ati release their new cards later this year, but I doubt any of 'em will be close to this price/performance ratio.
Posted this in another forum, but I'll ask here at the [H], too.
Was about to pick up the steam/pc version from GMG (debating between the standard at $46 and digital deluxe for $58), but spotted the vanilla version on sale for $35.88 at some British site called Funstock Digital (used coupon...
I do believe you can hear the difference, but do you understand the actual frequencies you're hearing? For reference, 10Hz isn't just below the threshold of just about every scientific study on human hearing, 10Hz is also in the territory of whale mating calls!
Sound below ~50Hz is mostly felt...
Hrm, pretty tempting. Ain't been using the consoles much post-Bloodborne, but I'd like a mic'd circumaural headset that works with both my xbox one and ps4. Figured I'd prolly end up with the Kingston cans since they're relatively inexpensive, but maybe I can stretch the budget. In some ways I...
You mean the Senns are better? I only ask because I've never heard the Kingston Cloud X or Cloud X 2s, but there seems to be a lot of support for them being killer bang-for-the-buck.
PCGamer even picked the Cloud X as their fav headset (not the Cloud X 2), with other choices chosen over the...
I haven't checked this out to be sure, but I'll bet 10 and 15Hz are both irrelevant. Practically speaking, very, very few games and songs will have any audio hitting those frequencies. The lowest notes and deepest bass from rap/electronic/games/etc will almost always still be 25-30Hz and above...
Been a long time since I paid much notice to BD since it was cost-prohibitive vs other alternatives. I didn't realize they had hit 100GB capacity. What would be a solid burner to take advantage of these 100GB discs? Internal preferred, but external is fine, too.
Hot deal gets even hotter. The Mushkin Reactor 1TB is now selling for $240 at newegg.
Wish I had the budget to spare, but upping my hdd bulk storage is more important atm.
Edit Jan 7th: Down to $230 now.

anandtech review from February. They gave it a recommended buy back when it was $390, although prices have come down quite a bit since then. By summer, this'll prolly be within $50 of the normal price for budget 1TB ssds.
Updating op. These speakers are on sale again for $130, or $115 after rebate.
Had mine for nearly a month now, and am 100% stoked. After we move next year, assuming I have the room, they'll be relegated to the garage, bedroom or maybe spare TV and replaced with much larger wall-mounted cabinets...
The cabinet size of the jbl lsr305 is a lot larger, and combined with the larger 5" drivers, the midbass/bass performance is significantly better as well. The av40 are, for most people, probably the better choice if trying to fit your speakers on your desk, but if you don't mind stands/wall...
Been busy with work and holidays. Sorry for the slow response. Got mine, spent a few days putting them through their paces, and they absolutely live up to the hype. For $299 I'd be looking at other options, but for under $200, they're pretty damn tough to beat, especially when you look at all...
If you're only gonna be around the house, and don't need the noise isolation of a closed headphone, I'd buy the hd598 over the Audio Technica m50x in a heartbeat (I also own the m50x). The hd598 are far more comfortable, and imo open headphones just sound a helluva lot better than closed...
Good mini-review Stole, thanks! Bummer to hear about the hiss and buzzing, that kinda thing will likely drive me nuts. Might have to give 'em to the missus. Have you had any experience with the automatic sleep mode's turn-on/turn-off delay bothering you? I read some negative comments about that...
Extremely comfortable headphones.
Agreed about both the sound leakage and not needing an amp for these. They're almost completely open, so you'll hear everything around you and everyone nearby will hear your music unless you're at very low volume.
I have the hd600, hd595, and several other...
That is a pretty hot deal on the Polk tower speakers, especially with free shipping Beats the recent slickdeals offer by ~$30:

The few comments mention shipping trashed the boxes. Wonder if that's the norm (speaker...
Beige white is the new black! :D
Seriously, I think we had some of these in the computer lab back in the 1990s. Anyone looking at logitech/klipsch/corsair/etc computer speakers could probably buy these and get the same or better sound while saving a nice wad of cash.
