@shadow: Yes I have tried those Turtle Beaches. Unfortunately, these are the very types of "surround sound" cans that give true 5.1 headsets a bad name. There was no spatial separation. Worse, b/c the amp was USB powered, it caused electrical, high frequency pitch sounds if the volume was...
I also heard the Zalman's lack the Bass vibration feature the ones I currently have (discontinued Kinyo Ky-100 5.1 - similar to the Medusa's). Very cool feature.
It's tough finding a decent replacement now w/ everything being discontinued and/or to USB. Anymore replies??
Okay, so since this isn't getting any play - and I DO realize that others are in the same boat - how about something else. Have there ever been any "converts": people who have sworn by 5.1's (Medusa, Zalman, Tritton, etc) converted to stereo cans and thought it was actually better?
Another...
Wait. This is all saying for RAID. I only have one of these drives and, so, it's definitely NOT in RAID. I'm not understanding the full purpose or potential of these drivers, if any.
I just installed them. I opened up AS SSD and I still see it says MS drivers. How can I take advantage of these supposed superior intel drivers?
@Dan: I do use a separate, add-on RAID controller/SATA add-on card since I now have 5 SATA devices and, unfortunately, my MoBo only has 4 slots.
I made a post a while ago asking about alternatives to the Medusa 5.1 headset. I've been doing a ton of Google'ing and it seems hard to find a good replacement as most stuff out there now is USB or discontinued. So, can anyone recommend a headset that has good spatial separation?
Things...
This may sound DUMB, but check that both the power and DVI/Display cables are both FIRMLY attached. Mine was doing the same thing and I started to fret. Turns out I just needed to jiggle the power cable back FIRMLY in place. Been fine now ever since.
@ cerwinvega: Did you ever do a factory reset? Isn't that supposed to help?
Also, forgot to mention, even after re-enabling AHCI mode, the BIOS load is still 8 seconds faster. It will display the "This version supports only..." message, but a lot quicker, and the counting dots are long...
Are you saying these benchmarks add considerable wear on the SSD's? In any event, here are my #'s from ATTO. I did some Google'ing to compare my #'s and these look pretty decent...right?

I think you were right....
AHCI off:

AHCI on:

BTW, anyone know if these #'s look decent for the OCZ Vertex 2? This is on a 1 week old Win7 x64 install.
Here's what I was talking about:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976
When I booted up Win7 for the first time after updating BIOS and loading the Optimized setting, I rec'd an error msg. It allowed me to start Win7 normally, albeit it seemed to re-scan all of my devices and asked me to...
OK so I just updated my BIOS (thx Solid). Loaded Optimized Defaults. By Default, it puts the BIOS SATA setting back to "Enabled" (or was it "Disabled?") as opposed to AHCI mode. Once done, that annoying and long message: "This Version supports only..." goes away, along w/ the counting dots...
OK So after installing my new OCZ Vertex 2 120GB, I enabled AHCI in BIOS. Problem is there's an added screen in my BIOS now after doing this which delays the boot time considerably (well, by about 10 seconds). After the POST screen logo, it moves to a black screen which says "This version...
Hey all. I'm in the exact same boat as OP and was brought here by Old Hippie. I'm thinking of adding a 2nd HDD down the line, however. If I were to buy a SATA add-on w/ 2 ports and use both, would the bandwidth be shared at the same time (ie 300MB/sec split down to 150) or would the bandwidth...
I'm all out of SATA ports and want to add an internal SATA HDD. I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L w/ 3x PCI-e x1 slots. So I'm guessing w/ the transfer rates of PCI express x1 at ~ 250MB/sec, I'll need to settle for a SATA controller card w/ "only" SATA II (~300MB/sec). Is a SATA controller my...
Got mine 2 weeks ago and deposited last week :) $300 for THE best 24" IPS LCD monitor out there right now (not incl the original NEC 2490)...not bad at all!
In short, BUY IT ASAP!
I'm a VERY pick person when it comes to monitors. Let's face it, you have to stare at the damn thing for however long and whatever it is you'll be doing on your PC. Coming from the highly rated S-IPS Dell 2005FPW, I had a difficult time finding a decent...
Seems everyone agrees on hardware calibration. Obvious problem: Way too expensive for one-time use. Are there any camera shop or outlets that rent them?
For those of you that are confused why I posted 2 sets of screens: 1 set containing stills taken directly from a Blu-Ray [captured as PNG's, converted to high quality JPEG's in PhotoShop, FYI], the other set containing said images taken by my camera...is merely for other ZR24w owners to gauge...
Here are the *DIGI CAM* results I took of some of the screen caps I posted from various movies... Anyone care to take the test w/ their own ZR24w??
The Matrix:
Dark City:
Alien/Aliens:
Here are some images ripped from The Matrix @ 1080p. I snapped some photos from my digi-cam to showcase what it looks like on my monitor, but cannot upload them atm since I need a cable replacement. So in the meantime if anyone wants to snap some images from below and shoot it from THEIR...
I was going by what I had in Color Management under Display Properties in Windows. But yes, you're right, I forgot to switch it back to the Custom Color Profile after doing some testing (not that I notice any visual difference between the ICC profiles). All other info posted was relevant and...
I have a question to all you ZR24w owners out there still reading: How are your black levels? In that regard, I mean, are darkly lit scenes in movies and games crushed to the point that it's wiped out and missing detail?
I went to Lagom to take their black level test. While I can...
LMFAO!!! This was one of the very first things I did as well, hahahaha! Although in my case I did it to test the colors itself.
Since there has been a great wealth of info in this thread, I felt I should contribute back. I'll probably post up one of those "full reviews" some users do w/...
I'll be the first to bite: $1,000 bucks says it'll be (ch)e(ap)-IPS w/ banding issues, uneven backlight uniformity, and major glowing issues...oh my!!
Oh yeah, and they look cheap too. Just like every other TN panel on the market. "Bleh" is right!
Hey, I was thinking of posting up a similar thread (w/ the exception that I'm looking at 24" monitors). I really, really would like that Planar monitor - IPS, awesome panel, low input lag, great colors - but as you wrote, it seems it is no longer in production and virtually impossible to find...
Guess I'll be the first to bite. I have a feeling this may turn out to be a hotly debated topic since there are a lot of us here who still love CRT's and will clash w/ those that swear LCD's are superior.
Honestly, if you're THAT fussy and also fearing all of LCD's drawbacks (namely...
I couldn't help but grunt when I read that you listed the 2005FPW (which I own and am using) as an S-PVA (yuck). It is widely known that it is an S-IPS, tyvm :)
But like you, I am in the same boat and find it increasingly difficult to find a new monitor to "upgrade." I've gone thru...
Call me what you want, but if one were to make a list of advantages CRT's have over LCD's, I'm sure most people who care about display image quality (like most of us lurking on this very thread), would concur CRT's are superior.
I did NOT say CRT's are better in every way. Now you're starting...
I had to stop reading your post when I read that ^. Sorry, but either you suffer from color blindness or a really bad memory (or worse: both).
Even *IF* you are somehow able to afford a top of the line LCD that gives decent colors (like, supposedly, the NEC LCD2490WUXi-BK or the...
Did you try any of the Tritton's? How about the Zalman's? Screw the $300 psyko's. For that much, I probably WOULD buy studio-quality headphones. But, no, my budget is ~ $80.
The Medusa's, which I don't personally own as mentioned, are cost prohibitive ($120+?). Not to mention everyone I...
^ BUMP ^ I'm now looking into the TRITTON AX51 Pro 5.1. However I've been reading bad things in regards to the build of the headset, suggesting the speakers short out.
Anyone w/ other suggestions? I'm also considering the Zalman 5.1's, but doesn't feature its' own amp and looks absolutely...
Hey, I'm looking to buy replacement for my 5.1 headset, which, is actually different from what the title suggests (in a way!). I have the Kinyo KY-100 5.1 surround sound headset. It's essentially the same as the Medusa's (it even uses the same amp), but now the headset part itself is getting...
Welcome to the forum and to this thread. Recommend doing a search next time (granted this is a HUGE thread), but this is THE biggest problem and gripe related to this monitor, as so many others have reported in on.
In a nutshell, this uniformity issue plagues ALL of e-IPS monitors using...
^ Little late on this, but I wish people would get off this guy's back. He brings up a legit point. Over 1 grand for a 24" IPS monitor? Yeah, the easy rebuttal is "oh, it's aimed at 'professionals.'" Right? Wrong!
Don't you all remember NEC's EA231WMi? Yeah, targeted at...
Yes, as soon as I read that it's not actually S-IPS, but "H2-IPS" (W/e the heck that is), I got worried it might be another cheap-o IPS panel - the "e-IPS." The garbage that churned out the horrible backlight/color uniformity issues inherit in all e-IPS' produced (Dell's 2209WA + U2410, NEC...
