^^^ Is your sig up to date? If my eyes aren't deceiving me...you're running a 5850 with a ~ 5year old 300w shuttle psu? LOL...nice.... The 5850 is really quite efficient when it comes to performance/power consumption ratio. It consumes less power than a 4870, 4890, etc....

I'm unclear why his PSU is at risk with his current components. 485w PSU, His max posted wattage is 305w (running COD) at the wall. For argument sakes lets assume his metering output is correct and the efficiency is 80%. 305x80% = 244w and his PSU is capable of 485w (600w at the outlet)...

AMD AM3 CPUs such as the flagship Phenom II 965 supports both DDR2 and DDR3. It's the motherboard that determines the memory requirement.

Don't bother with the HT3.0 vs HT1.0 issue. It shows absolutely no performance difference between the 2. What's important is: 1) # of cores and architecture 2) CPU-NB speed 3) CPU clock 4) not HT3.0 or HT1.0

^^^Looks like you're at 1.20v according to CPU-z. Where is that 1.14v @ 3.8 or did I miss the screenshot? EDIT: Saw the vdroop and min... Nice overclock and a sweet chip.

Here's a start. Keep everything stock and crank up the q9550 until it errors or freezes or until you find a stable clock (with IBT/OCCT). I got to 3.6 @ 1.25v with everything else stock. If your q9550 is one of the newer ones, you may be able to get 3.8 without any changes in voltage.

The 520hx is plenty. It can effectively delivers 520W after the 80% efficiency is applied. It is very similar to the 620hx and push out identical numbers but I can't seem to find any reviews of the 520hx being push to the limit of the 620hx.

Perhaps I missed the details...but was the Processor or TRUE/MEGA lapped? The TRUE didn't do too well before lapping and didn't do that great after lapping but did wonderful after lapping both TRUE and CPU.
