That comparison is total BS by toms. They make a disclaimer that they match the core clock and memory clock between the reference and vapor X but make no attempt to compensate for the throttling nature of the 290x reference fan profile.
Anyone who have ever had experience with the reference...
Any solution to this problem? I'm experiencing the same issue. Single card works fine. Crossfire with bezel causes random crashes and BSOD. Tried driver 13.12, 14.4 and 14.7, nothing works.
System spec:
3 x 2412m monitor
4790k, gigabyte z87x-ud4h, 16gb ram
2 x 290's crossfire

Is your sig up to date? If my eyes aren't deceiving me...you're running a 5850 with a ~ 5year old 300w shuttle psu? LOL...nice....
The 5850 is really quite efficient when it comes to performance/power consumption ratio. It consumes less power than a 4870, 4890, etc....
I'm unclear why his PSU is at risk with his current components.
485w PSU,
His max posted wattage is 305w (running COD) at the wall.
For argument sakes lets assume his metering output is correct and the efficiency is 80%.
305x80% = 244w
and his PSU is capable of 485w (600w at the outlet)...
The 5970 overclocked with an i7 overclocked draws about 540W @ at the wall (this is with Furmark maxing the card). The HX650 is capable of delivering 650W to the system.
Take a rough estimate of 80% efficiency and the hx650 is capable of handling a load of 780w drawn at the wall.
I'd say the...
There's nothing wrong with giving an incorrect answer or getting facts a little twisted but when you start to belittle others you better make sure you triple check your info/knowledge...if not, this thread and replies will be the consequence of your ignorance.
Don't bother with the HT3.0 vs HT1.0 issue.
It shows absolutely no performance difference between the 2.
What's important is:
1) # of cores and architecture
2) CPU-NB speed
3) CPU clock
4) not HT3.0 or HT1.0
^^^Looks like you're at 1.20v according to CPU-z.
Where is that 1.14v @ 3.8 or did I miss the screenshot?
EDIT: Saw the vdroop and min...
Nice overclock and a sweet chip.
Here's a start. Keep everything stock and crank up the q9550 until it errors or freezes or until you find a stable clock (with IBT/OCCT). I got to 3.6 @ 1.25v with everything else stock. If your q9550 is one of the newer ones, you may be able to get 3.8 without any changes in voltage.
The 520hx is plenty.
It can effectively delivers 520W after the 80% efficiency is applied. It is very similar to the 620hx and push out identical numbers but I can't seem to find any reviews of the 520hx being push to the limit of the 620hx.
I just got the 4890 in. Thanks for the advices fellas.
Some of you have very valid points...
I was debating holding on to the overclocked 4850 for a while longer until the 58xx comes down in pricing but that may be quite a while.
Since there are no dx11 games available and may be some time...
Hi guys,
I'm currently debating if I should buy a HD4890 for $100 or wait for the ATI 58XX.
I'm currently using a HD4850 (overclocked 730/1130 with Accelero S1) with a Q9550 @ 3.6ghz.
All this talk about DirectX 11 and next gen card is really hindering me from upgrading.
Any advice...
Perhaps I missed the details...but was the Processor or TRUE/MEGA lapped?
The TRUE didn't do too well before lapping and didn't do that great after lapping but did wonderful after lapping both TRUE and CPU.
List a template of your settings.
I worked on my Q9550 for a few days...at first I couldn't get it to 3.6ghz stable (regardless of vcore) and was about to smash it and get a new chip but found out my settings were off. Now running at 3.8ghz passing Intel Linpack 5000 runs stable. Going to max...
