Responding to an ancient post here!
This quick launch lag has bothered me for years, and I've just learned to live with it. It only lags once per reboot cycle, so it was kind of livable.
However, I just ran Windows update for the first time in a couple months... downloaded several...
There are all sorts of files. Audio, video, text, you name it. Basically it is my master archive of every piece of data I've ever cared about. Around 1TB.
I am giving a little consideration to the sync manager option you mention, but I've never used one. I have a bad taste in my mouth for...
I have quite a bit of data that I backup on two external drives which I keep at two separate locations. I call it my ghetto RAID, and I'm sure plenty of people would never use such a system, but I do. I don't like relying on backup/synchronization software, so I manually maintain each...
I just created a new user to see if it happened with him, and sure enough it doesn't happen with the new user. So, I got out Wingrep and searched the old user folder (which was small enough that it didn't crash Wingrep like an entire C: search did), and I found one entry that made me...
Well... here is something interesting! I removed FF for grins.
With FF gone, IE was my default again. Sure enough, it did launch... but it only tried to connect to http://homegroup/
Which means FF was adding in the www and com... which makes me even more suspicious this is not a virus but...
Tried every suggestion here, minus the system restore and reinstall. ;-) If I have to I will do a reinstall in a few weeks when I have time. What a stumper. :-(
I am at my wit's end here. Earlier today I was unable to accomplish something which has never been a problem for me in the past. Simple file transfers over a local network between two Windows 7 PC's. I still haven't got to the bottom of it, but a newer problem has sprung up which would be pretty...
Sounds interesting, but I build too much stuff myself. See example:

I think for this one I'll just pay the pros.
In normal conditions, no I never pull that much. But using OCCT PSU tester (which puts CPU and GPU to 100%) I managed to reach 570W.
920 @ 3.8GHz
ATI 4890
4 HDD's
8 LED fans
I idle at 220W... in my normal use I never break 400W. But the OCCT app showed that I CAN approach 600W.
And no, none...
I have never owned a UPS and I am thinking about getting one, not so much for the traditional reasons of "saving my work" if the power goes out... but more because I have been doing a lot of firmware flashing lately... both my BIOS and my SSD as they keep releasing revisions, and I thought to...
I have about 40 stuck pixels (red blue and green) but in normal viewing I just don't see them. It actually took me over 2 months to even realize this! They are all along the bottom, and the screen must be black, and my face must be very close to actually notice.
On my 720p 40" TV I have ONE...
Yeh, I wouldn't expect it to get better or worse with time or based on which way you use it. It's just the way the mechanism was built, it "zeros out" at the wrong place. Did you butt yours together the same way I did to force it to be fixed? Although, if you use yours permanently in portrait...
I have two of these and I have noticed recently a problem with both that I haven't seen anybody else comment on. Because of the portrait mode option, I can't seem to get the displays to sit perfectly level. Basically, they are clocked a degree or two (guessing) in the clockwise direction. The...
One of my favorite (i.e. least favorite) things in life is when you the customer know more about the product that you're buying than the sales agent. Even when I bought my freaking car the Toyota guy had half his details about my model wrong. Part of it is that some of these people are idiots...
Well, I just found out that my first 2209WA (which I've had for two months) has about two dozen stuck pixels on it. Can't believe I didn't notice it in 2 months of usage. They are all along the bottom 25% of the screen and are stuck at R G and B randomly and only visible on a black screen and...
See my quote above from a similar post. Let me know how your brightnesses compare, and how the colors compare after calibration.
Pulling up THIS color chart on both displays I can notice some VERY subtle differences, but it is probably 95% identical.
You're in the same boat as me then. I used Spyder2 to calibrate and have both contrasts at 82, and the brightness is 52 on the Mexico and 72 on the China. The RGB corrections were similar but not identical... not sure off the top of my head and not at that PC now. Still could not get them...
Ditto on the slide-out panel.
And yeh, my Mexico panel is definitely brighter than my China panel, but not so bright I consider it horrible. I only dimmed it down to make it match the China panel as much as possible. I actually like bright panels, but maybe it was too much. The China panel...
You're right, I jumped the gun on that one and the thread is not conclusive.
However, Chris does not deny the people in the same thread who seem sure it is discontinued. So it's not super promising either. But he's probably not keen on saying too much in either direction, whichever answer...
How well do your 2209WA's match up after profiling? Are they both the same Rev? You can tell by pulling out the little plastic tab behind the side USB ports (I didn't even realize that was there for a long time). See my post above... one of mine was made in April in China and the other in...

Discontinuation rumor looks true. :-( Confirmation by Dell tech.
I ordered my first one at the end of May (slickdeal!) and received it in early June. I knew I should have just ordered two then but I wanted to...
Hmm unfortunately I didn't save the first one since I thought it was random. I will watch for the next one if it happens again.
There are Steam updates so often I can't even keep track of them... :-/ I will be checking my cables soon too anyway.
I have a Core i7 920 @ 3.8GHz, rest of my specs listed in sig. I do not think this BSOD is O/C related because I have passed over 20 LinX runs and 12 hrs Prime95 no problem. For weeks I have been running with no BSOD's but last night I saw two in a few hours.
The first one happened while...
If that's true then this whole thread "doesn't matter much." Anybody who is running too hot can just reduce their clock and then they'll be at safe levels, right?
Hey, I can run my 920 at safe levels using stock HSF, might as well just do that too!
I am new to S3 sleep, and was wondering if there is any way to control when your PC is considered as truly "inactive" i.e. a candidate for auto-sleep to take over. For example, if a certain app is running can I designate it as preventing sleep from occurring? I heard that certain apps will...
If I reset everything it doesn't happen with Vcore, but as soon as I take Vcore off auto it starts the 0.1V increase again.
DIMM V reduces by 0.02-0.04V after sleep even on auto, even with ALL BIOS to default.
Any idea how the Prolimatech paste compares? It came with my Megahalems and I just figured I'd use it, but now I'm wondering how good it really is. Don't want to take my CPU out again though unless I really have a reason to, I'm pretty happy with the results thus far.
Running LinX for stability testing, around the 10th run I still had no errors but the Vista sidebar crashed. Should I consider this as an error or instability? Or just a lack of RAM for sidebar and nothing to worry about? I'm inclined to think the latter. Sidebar actually managed to restart...

MSI RADEON 4890

What about file folders? Can they be tagged in 7? I haven't installed it myself yet, hope to very soon...
Worst case I could make a folder for each file I want tagged and then tag the folder instead.
Yeh, I was wondering about that, thanks. I think I will wire to a female molex ahead of time, so there is no way I can short once the power is on... I'll just plug the fan into the extended molex.
