Ah, so I was reading that HDMI 2.0 will have HDCP 2.2, and that the content providers will require HDCP 2.2 for their 4K content (streamed and optical). I guess it all kinda makes sense now. I wonder how DP will upgrade to the new HDCP spec or if it has already.
Just wondering why you didn't put the TV on the "North" wall? It seems like you are really limiting your sound stage and general aesthetics on the "East" wall off the cabinet.
Anyhow, you should post this here: http://www.avsforum.com/f/19/dedicated-theater-design-construction
You will get a...
I think it has more to do with HDMI has the HDCP protection system that needed to be carried forward. I know DP allows for it as well but was it well implemented? It was probably a lot about DRM.
You could transition by staring with both DP and HDMI ports on new devices as it phases to DP...
Yep and to conform to Rec 2020 format (upgrading from 709) which is true UHD.
Still miffed that HDMI 2.0 bandwith cops out at 8bit color. I remember watching an old video of a Samsung exec touting 4k/UHD and that its not just about the resolution, itll have 12 bit color, blah blah. That got...
Ya, poor choice of words. I meant more to say everyone has their tastes in AVRs and brands, and its just not an area that's worth going into for OP as perhaps there are key features he wants (eg, perhaps he wants really good room correction and believes in its uses), but the rest is personal...
I'd rather get a 65" ST than a 60" VT, for the size, unless there is something on the VT you really think stands out. The ST is getting all kinds of value/performance kudos so its not like you are making a big sacrifice for size. But you're a panny fan you know the differences. I have a...
Ya. I read the delay was mostly Apple fighting for DP instead as the TV connector standard (and lost).
I'll be interested to see how long HDMI 2.0 mobos start to appear (esp HTPC friendly ones). Would love to see a BRIX or the refresh of Intel NUC have that.
Although, argh, I'll also have to...
Hey all,
I'm trying to find a microphone where I do presentations on webex, etc. I'd really like a USB lapel microphone (no stands). I have a decent lapel ones like the AudioTechnica ATR-3350 Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone, which is OK, but it is stereo input jack, thus must be...
Hard to say without seeing pics/layout. If you have carpet you can punch a whole where it leads to the wall and then punch a whole where you hang the speakers. Or the crown molding trick is common and good.
+1 for mentioning CL2 --- I consider that a must.
If you are buying a new house I...
You don't need to run slides (burn it in) unless you plan on calibrating it; essentially people run slides for 200 hours or so to get the phosphers adjusted (they will shift), and then have a calibrator come in and do the settings once everything is settled. Otherwise if you do it right away...
I can tune to my PRIME with XBMC, using STRM files. I have to say though that the video quality is subpar in the player for TV. Not sure why, but scrolling text like news captions do not look properly rendered and get horizontal lines. Any other player is fine. I went back to WMC for that...
Ya, agreed and same experience here. It is a very personal choice though. Everyone has to decide between 120hz TN and a PLS/IPS/*VA, I suppose. I guess the one clear loser is a 60hz TN!
Anyhow, poor OP got more than he bargained for ;-!
I have Win/Media Center.
I've gone through every type of remote that is conceivable (WMC standard remote; di novo mini; a few other trackpad/keypad brands running over RF; lenovo mini wireless kb with ball mouse on RF; number of harmonies; motrola's "pulse eight"; etc).
They all sort of...
I'm quite spoiled by "pure" 120hz in just a desktop environment. The PC just feels so much more responsive and smoothing doing normal tasks like moving windows around.
60hz being interpolated to 120hz or 240hz does create the mirage of smoothness to the user, albeit with video...
Based on my experience gaming/computing on both:
Ya, the soap opera effect from the motion interpolation you're getting on the TV makes it seem smoother for games. I guess it "feels" similar but I think if you play FPS you my have issue with a lot of input lag if you are a serious gamer. If...
Here you go. Dell 2209wa.

I had one about 4 years ago. Surprised they still sell it. Its a pretty decent monitor. There's actually threads in this forum about it too if you search.
FWIW, I have a S23A750D and it came with the 3100GB glasses. I'm in the US.
Mine have a logo "Samsung PC 3D"
Can't comment at all with whether the PC/TV models are interchangeable.
If you can't get any at best buy to work post a reply - I really don't use mine and could be swayed to send it...
I have 2012 Panny VT50 65 in my LR and a 55 in my bedroom. I love them. They are slim mounted on the wall and not much thicker than an LCD/LED. They also have a nice, slick, all black w/silver lining look to them.
I've had Samsung's top line LCD/LEDs from 2010 and 2011 (8000 series of...
Samsung marketing video, posted a few days ago:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2ALsot-gak
Video makes it looks like it comes with its own calibration kit. Have to pay really close attention, "personal calibrator not included" at 1:32.
Came up in denmark a day or so ago. Nice new pics. Really want to try this and hope for the best.
http://www.samsung.com/dk/consumer/flagship/LS27B970DS-EN/
It looks adjustable based on this pic and text "This does limit the potential adjustability of the monitor, too, although the screen can be tilted and height adjusted by just under 4 inches."

No portrait though it...
I have pretty much every logitech mouse, including the G500 and MX518. The G500 is nice but I found it too bulky compared to the MX518 form, which I have found to be the best for my subjective tastes. I got the G400 (essentially, a refresh of the MX518) and have been in love with it ever...
I have the 23" model too. Its shows through POST, and I use DP, but def. a crash issue as all the eco crap is off and it will literally crash as I am working on it. If you can post a link to the other forum I'd be interested in reading up on it thanks!
What do you mean by crashing? I get something like that. My 750 intermittently just drops signal the DP signal for no good reason. So, I'll be doing whatever and suddenly it acts like there is no input signal. If I power cycle the monitor it comes back. I have never seen such a strange...
So, I got the S23A750. I assume basically all the panels are similar. Anyone have settings they found to be particularly good? Of course my came in full retina torch mode and I've been tweaking it, but wondering if anyone has reasonably "calibrated" setting to start out with.
So far I enjoy...
Everything LG put out on IFA last year is still MIA, at least in North America. I expect no different. Like that 30" OLED which "absolutely will be available in 2011" .... and the higher end NANO TVs which are finally just creeping on the market now, in rather different form.
Specs are here...
Ya but you could have CableCard support outside of WMC.
I guess all the "apps" written in MCML is an interesting question, but they only exist in WMC.
Not sure what else is in WMC that you can't get elsewhere in the native OS, even 7.
I bet there aren't any bug fixes unless something seriously breaks, but there is now a "Media Platform" team for Windows 8.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011/08/17/introducing-the-team.aspx
And its been confirmed in the latest leaked change log that WMC was removed, although I guess you...
