I think it is well worth to wait for the MSI Suprim X to become available. I had a Zotac in order but managed to get it cancelled as they were preparing shipping as the Suprim X came in stock. More expensive but totally felt worth it.
Yeah, at least here in Denmark (Europe) there all of a sudden was quite a few RTX 4090 in stock in the week leading up to the RDNA 3 launch - makes you go hmmmm… Could be a coincidence, but I think not. That stock of RTX 4090s seem to have gone away pretty much by now….
I’m in Europe where the RTX 4090 are actually in stock here and there. You can’t always be picky with brands though.
Current komplett.dk that covers Denmark, Sweden and Norway have them in stock.
Yeah, what is crazy about this generation from Nvidia and AMD is that it is their second tier cards 4080 and 7900 XT that presents terrible value. Not the top cards.
Normally you would pay 40% more for 10% more performance or something like that on the top cards. But not this time: they want us...
Change of plans!
Saw a MSI RTX 4090 Suprim X in stock and couldn’t help myself so I ordered that and canceled the Zotac. These are so bloody expensive anyway so might as well get a card that I’m fully excited about getting!
So I finally broke down, sold my MSI RTX 3090 Suprim, and found a decent deal for Zotac GeForce RTX 4090 Trinity OC which I have now ordered. I need to assemble a new PC from scratch so it will take some time before that is done but will probably throw it into an older build to kick the tires.
Interesting…. But would you say that it is a bad idea to grab a top brand like the Seasonic Vertex line as soon as they are available? Because that is what I’m planning to do.
Yeah, this one is actually very interesting:
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-7950x-cooling-requirements-thermal-throttling/
Long story short, a top air cooler will not cost you much performance.
In for a follow, as I’m looking squarely at precisely option 2 with a CAS Latency 30.
But maybe latency is not as important as I assume, old school as I am?
Basically, will a top air cooler such as Noctua ND15 cut the mustard on a AMD 7950X or should I expect some mild throttling?
Another option would be Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 top mounted in a Phanteks P600S case.
The GPU will be my current RTX 3090 or maybe a future 4090 but I’m are not...
To be honest, I think the B650E motherboards present a pretty great compromise between features and price.
AMD made a big mistake by launching the Zen4 with only the expensive 670 motherboards as people got the sentiment that AM5 would always be a very expensive option - and that impression...
Yeah, got my eyes set on the Seasonic Vertex series too. Not entertaining the idea of a new build before it can be purchased because I want easy PSU cable management to a RTX 4090.
This guy claim that “There were no extreme bends and the cable was properly inserted into the socket ( click sound after inserting it)” - but still a melt:
https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/ysk9dj/9900k_4090_adapter_melted/
What do you mean by “plugging it in wrong”? If it is possible to plug 450/600W in “wrong” just like that, something is fundamentally messed up.
Having said that, I think the issue is complex since we have yet to hear anything from nVidia / AIB, not even a rumor.
Starting to look like this is a real issue, unfortunately. I’m pretty sure we will hear something official within the next two weeks - probably next week From nvidia and partner.
It is beyond idiotic that these RTX 4090 cards doesn’t have the power connector at an angle or something that. Doesn’t the product managers use these cards themselves, like WTF?! Terrible QA and product development, top to bottom. You realize this like one minute after installing the cards...
This. I can still remember how much I was in awe of the visual quality that the card’s FP16 pipeline enabled on tech demos. Oh my… and it got performance to boot, nothing quite like it since.
Interestingly, I was hoping that the RTX cards from nVidia would get me just as excited with the outlook...
In practical terms, it does look like vaporware here in Europe. I can find them listed on nVidia’s own UK webshop and German webshop, but not sure if any cards have actually been at sale there for a brief moment. Beyond that, I can’t source any. I think the FE models are mainly for the US...
Have anybody seen any benchmarks showing how much uplift I can expect going from a 9900K to Raptor lake or Zen 4? I can’t seem to find anymore using 9900K or equivalent on the latest benchmarks for those new CPUs.
Yeah this is what I am thinking too.
My current 9900K is a fine CPU but certainly not king of the hill anymore. And the motherboard is a lowly Asus Tuf model, the PSU will probably not cut it etc etc.
Very interesting as I haven’t paid attention to the PCI lanes situation on the new motherboards. Needless to say, if Metro Exodus is an omen of what to come to other games, you could be in a little of a pickle on the Raptor Lake platform if you also want to run a NVMe 5.0 PCI SSD drive. On the...
I was actually fairly impressed with the image quality - the visual artifacts was more subtle and less distracting than I was expecting! Hmmm, that might actually be a thing.
I have to admit that I was very intrigued by the new FE design when 3080/3090 came out but we all know how impossible they were to get hold on in the months after the launch. I might actually look into a 4090 FE eventually but not sure I can get any fair deal on my 3090.
Will the 4080 16GB be enough of an upgrade if you already have a 3090 / 3080Ti / 3080, I’m not so sure... In a sense the 4090 is the most interesting but obviously very expensive.
