The annoyance factor is what really bothers me about them.
You go in, find the product you want which may be at a reasonable price. All I want to do is pay for it and leave. But first the salesperson wants to upsell you to a better product. Then they want to try and convince you to buy the...
What is he going to use it for?
The Mac Mini supports hardware acceleration of H264 video, so it should play 1080p videos without an issue. Not sure about the Zino but it might too.
If looks are important, it's hard to beat the Mac Mini, and it's what I would choose if I had $600 to spend...
It depends on your receiver settings. If you have it set to Dolby Prologic or some other processing mode, then yes you will get audio from the center speaker. What comes through it depends on the processing done, but it's often times not just a mono audio version of the sound. I personally...
I can answer some of your questions:
2. They are working on some DVR support, but it's not really ready for prime time in most cases. You'll want to use Media Center for DVR'ing with the Ceton.
3. You have to tell it where to find your files. For music, it will pull metadata from the ID3...
Everyone else seems to have the advice on fixing MC covered, so I'll tackle this question.
XBMC is very easy to use. Better is subjective, but in my opinion it is. The skins for it are gorgeous, and it has some functionality that MC doesn't. Such as selecting the audio track or subtitle...
Back when this poll was first posted I voted WMC (7MC). Since then I've switched to XBMC Live (linux based) and have never been happier. No more crashes, no more slowdown, and it boots significantly faster. I also upgraded to a new video card to get hardware acceleration, and my bluray rips...
Sounds like a cool setup. Is there a way with Android to open the remote application when you wake the device? So you don't have to wake the device, and click an icon to open the remote app?
I've been following your thread for a while. Great job on the cabinet, it looks really nice.
How are you liking your HomeSeer / Z-Wave setup? Would you recommend it to someone looking to get into HA? I just bought a house and am researching my options for whole house control, and...
Depends what content you are throwing at it. I don't believe that board will do hardware accelerated decoding of H264 content, and at 1.6 ghz, you're not going to be playing 1080p. Not sure about 720p.
You could use an ION/ION2 board which is hardware accelerated, run XBMC Live, and that...
Kinda figured, just wanted to see if there was anything else I should be checking. If the issue was something like RAM or video card, he'd probably replace it, but being the motherboard he'll just do a new build.
Thanks.
Here's the deal. A friend of mine has a system that was sitting idle and started rapidly powering itself on and off, which he noticed as the blue lighting he has in it was flickering. After turning it off and back on, it sat with no video. The system is now on my bench, and will turn on --...
You could put an Airport Express in each room you want music, and hook that up to your speakers. Then, either from iTunes or the iPod Touch Remote you can select what speakers you want to output to.
Seems to be a good price for a well reviewed wired/wireless laser printer.

Did you make the account on the new xbox? You should have been given an offer at the end of the signup process for a free month of gold.
If you made the account on the web, or transferred an account, you don't get free month, so make a new one on the xbox.
Yup, getting it for the 360.
Same here. It says it's preparing for shipping. Not worried as Amazon has had things delivered here less than 24 hours after shipping plenty of times.
Well, unfortunately, with multiple seating positions and your TV off center, you're not going to be able to get perfect positioning.
Assuming your rear speakers are not bi/di-pole, I would suggest placing the surrounds either at the left and right of the couch your primary seating positon is...
I'm looking to get a UPS to put my Windows Home Server box on. The machine right now runs a 45w AMD Sempron processor, 5 hard drives, on an Antec EA500 power supply. The power supply has active PFC, so my understanding is it's better to get a pure sine wave output?
I believe our wonky power...
TV tuner cards generally only work to input the signal into your PC. Outputting the signal should be done by your video card. So if your video card can output a format that your TV has an input for (composite or s-video most likely), that would work. If not, check out Newegg for a cheap card...
Good read, had never heard about that. I'll have to have the WHS task manager open while watching stuff to see if the stuttering coincides with that process starting.
FWIW, I watched a x264 movie followed by an xvid tv show last night, and it didn't stutter at all.
I recently formatted my HTPC, which was previously running Vista + Mediaportal, and installed Windows 7. I followed the guide posted here, and only installed the basics:
- Windows 7 Pro x86
- Mediabrowser
- Metabrowser
- Haali
- CoreAVC
- FFDShow
- VSFilter
- Firefox
plus the ATI...
Good deal. How did you get that price? Sale/coupon/open box?
With all the controls on the back, do you just leave them on and at a set volume all the time and control it through the mixer in windows?
You do have a point, they are hard to find. It might be worth demo'ing the AV40, I could always return them if they're too boomy. If I can stretch my budget, the ELT525 and A5 are two other rear ported speakers I'd like to demo.
I'm not too worried about it. If I lost an FPS or two, no...
Actually, the AV40's were at the top of my list after reading so many good things about them, until I realized they're rear ported. I'll probably only be able to pull the speakers out 4-6" from the wall tops, and am worried that rear ports will make the low end boomy. Looks like the D1080MKII...
Thanks for the advice.
I'm not too attached to the case port, so using the output coming off a card or out of the E-MU would be fine. And with TF2 not supporting EAX, I'm leaning towards the E-MU 0202. I wish the 0404 didn't have all the controls on the top, but it's around double the price...
It's all going to depend on the quality of the shelf system, both the speakers and amplifier. In my experience, having used a couple different shelf systems as PC speakers in the past, I find them better than low end computer speakers, probably due to bigger woofers, and more powerful...
Another vote for PK3 (or maybe PK2) if you want buds. Great sound for the price, and seem fairly durable.
I've also heard good things about the Sennheiser "twist to fit" earbuds, but haven't tried them myself (yet).
I'm looking to upgrade the sound on my PC. Right now I'm using the onboard soundcard with a cheap older pair of Creative 2.1's which have started to die. I also plug in AD700's into the headphone port on my case. I get a constant hiss coming through the headphones while they're plugged in...
