Decided on a Dell SE Inspiron 15R. Has 6gb ram, ATI 7730M 2 gb graphics, 3rd Generation Intel Core i5-3210M Processor 2.5 GHz (3M Cache, up to 3.10GHz), 1080p, 750gb 7200 RPM hard drive, CD-DVD burner and 3 yr contract for 1.1k. Not a bad deal I think. I can always change out the memory and the...
Yeah the Y580 is something I'm looking at. With a 3 yr its like 1250, which isn't bad.
The Dell Inspiron Special edition 15R is similar, 6gb RAM, ATI 7730M 2GB, 750 7200 rpm drive, 1080 but no Bluray for 1094. Though the question is, without Bluray drive, do I really need a 1080 display?
Alright, my Lenovo T500 finally gave up the ghost and I'm ready to get a new lappy. Since this is back to school season, it seems like the perfect time. Here are some specs
15.6 Screen
At least 6gb RAM
Discrete graphics at least 1 gb
Prefer a 1080p screen
HDMI output capable
Prefer Blu-ray
Cost...
As much as I'd love a SSD, they're pricey. I'm trying to keep costs low and storage size is more important than speed. Reliability is the biggest issue. I don't want to lose experimental data because of a hard drive failure (I do backup frequently however).
Also, since I can't find it anywhere...
Hey all,
Various diagnostics on my laptop are squawking that my HD might die soon, so I need to replace it. Any recommendations for a reliable HD for a Lenovo T500. I'm looking at the 320GB range. Thanks all.
Interesting. I thought I had read even the 2010 models were effected (affected?, bleh) by the voltage stepping. Well I guess I'm still stuck. Seems like the best choices are Samsung plasma/lcd or maybe toshiba. Panasonic still gives me some concerns. To bad Pioneer is out of the plasma business.
Wow, excellent suggestions all. I had though the LED-LCD's were closing in on the quality gap of plasma's but most of the suggestions have been for plasma's. 2 Questions if people know the answer's. 1) Are the new G20's affected by the panasonic black problem? 2) Just how much more power on...
Digital cable, blu-ray a receiver at some point and maybe a HTPC though maybe not. My guess is 4 HDMI inputs would be better than 3 as well as at least one of the each of the other major types.
So, I'm moving in a few weeks and once we get settled in, we are getting a new big screen tv. As I've not kept up with all the latest in TV developments, I was hoping I could get some help from the wonderful people here at [H]. I've got a budget of between 1500 and 2000 and no preference between...
Hi All,
So I've got a ton of books. Somewhere between 500 and 1000. I'd really like to have them all catalogued on my computer so that I can keep track of which books I might need for a given series or who I've lent a book to. Does anyone know of any good free software that exists for this kind...
Embarassingly old. DFI-Lanparty nforce4 Ultra-D, AMD 3800 Rev E, x800xl, 2 Gb RAM (OCZ), P180 case. My lappy is much more modern (lenovo T500) but twins don't leave much time for gaming these days. I'll look at the 4350, I just need something basic for the wife to use, until I can convince to...
So my x800xl is finally starting to give up the ghost. I need to purchase a new cheap-ish video card for my desktop. I have a DFI lanparty Ultra -D with the poorly placed southbridge fan right at the back edge of the video card slot. I need a recommendation for a cheap video card, preferably...
I need some help. I have a Lanparty UT nForce 4 Ultra-D I believe. I lost my manual and can't find on the DFI website whether I have a PCI-Express or PCI-express 2.0. This is increasingly relevant as it appears that my x800xl is dying and I need to buy a new cheap video card. Thanks much.
I'm downloading lunia right now, I downloaded perfect world which seems neat, if a little busy and am looking at runes of magic. Thanks for all the great suggestions .
Well, I have a lot of self discipline. I've never paid for anything in Trickster and don't anticipate paying for anything in any game I play. I'm also game for suggestions of RPG's or Tactical RPG's that are free as in beer (I've played Wesnoth and love it but need variety).
Hi all. I'm looking for advice choosing a free MMO. I've been playing trickster for a while, but it's getting kind of boring. I'm looking for a recommendation for a free MMO (cash-shop type), fantasy, with a good number of quests since I'm a PvE kind of person. Thanks in advance.
I understand most of what's being said here, though it is not what I was looking for. Danny Bui answered my question with the link to the mobile graphics card info page. All I wanted was a list/table comparing mobile graphics card for when I got my new laptop. Anyway thanks for the help!
I didn't mean an upgradeable card. I meant a card for initial build. you know, like the 9300? or the ATI equivalent, which one is better preformer and such.
For a desktop I might be willing to drop some of the support. For a laptop not so much. Does anyone know if there is a new laptop chipset/processor coming out. I'm willing to wait a little if it might drop existing prices. Also, which of the current proc's are the best dollar/speed value.
Thanks so much for your help. I'll send an email tomorrow, twins tire you out. I'm not ruling out Puget by any means. I'm just trying to correlate all the various data-bits. I definitely want a boutique. I have never been thrilled with the big boys. My lab never has had anything but trouble with...
Thanks a bunch. I am mostly comfortable to do stuff on my own (built my desktop) but notebooks can be a tricky beast. My dad is pushing toshiba or lenovo (both of whom his company buys quite a few of) but they have horrible configuration options if you want dedicated graphics. I've heard good...
Thanks Heather I will.
Just out of curiosity, what type of warranties do you guys offer. Do you have ones that have the option of onsite fixes or is it only offsite stuff (like shipping it back for a fix).
I know you may not want to answer this one, but do you guys tend to have problems...
So I finally got my PhD. Yay! As a graduation gift, my folks are getting me a laptop. And by getting me a laptop, I mean paying for the one I want up to about ~1500 dollars. I am hoping you fine folks here might make some general or specific recommendations about what to get.
Some specific...
