I have to disagree with you Spine. If someone who is using a computer cannot hear the power supply, then to the user the power supply is silent. You are being very pedantic as your comment has basically nothing to do with the power supply and everything to do with being critical of someones...
Taking Best buy to court.
I hope you succeed. I still have computer that won't recognize any memory in the second banks. They would do nothing. It has been unstable from beginning. I will post details after I dig them up. Their attitude was unbeleivable.
I gotta agree with Danny - Also, the reviews on the Ninja are extremely good. Add a scythe S flex 120 fan and your good to go. The rest of the build looks good. As far as CPU, dealers choice!. Let us know when your up and running.

I should have given more info. I will be using Vista 64 and I do use Photoshop almost daily as I'm a photographer. I fairly frequently drop a gig of raw into photoshop for rendering to JPGs after any correction. I know the 4 gig will help, just don't know if there is an advantage of 4...
I wasn't sure where to post this, but will offer it as help for those who are a little less familiar with Photoshop. I have noticed a number of posts concerning the amount of RAM required and questions as to what might be needed. Actually, Photoshop has a neat tool that addresses this issue...
For my new build (Q6600 on Gigabyte P35-DS4 rev 2) I was leaning toward two kits of Ballistix (2x1GB SDRAM ddr2 800 (PC6400) (94.00 @ Newegg)
I then read that it may be advisable to have all four gig on just two sticks !
So - I find that the nearest ram choice in 2X2 narrows to 1) Patriot...
Cipher - Don't you just hate it when you post a question and everyone acts like the sphynx is a blabbermouth? I am afraid I can't help you here, but I feel your pain.:(
I am also building a new rig around the Q-6600. After looking into mobo's and some help from the knowledgeable folks at HF, I have decided on a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 rev 2. 169.99 at newegg. I am a photographer and at this point don't game. Your needs may be different, but you may want to give...
Regarding the orange keyboard. I haven't actually seen one yet, but orange/red makes a lot of sense in dim light. That is why it is/was used in submarines. (night adaption) Less stressful than blue light.
Enginurd - Thanks for the input. One other question. Will this board play well with the Scythe SCINF - 1000 as far as size and adequate room? Would you recommend stock fan or S flex?
This will be going in a Lian Li 1000 P2.
On the advise of enginurd and others, I am foregoing an expensive Asus board and have pretty much decided on a Gigabyte GA P-35-DS4 rev 2.0. This will be for a new (first) build. Q-6600 4 gb ballistix, lian li 1000 P2, Gigabyte 8600 gt, scythe cooler, 2 seagate S2 drives, Corsair hx 520...
I am a photographer also. The whole thing of monitor "accuracy" is a bit hard to pin down. There are a couple of ways to go about profiling for "true" color. Both are fairly expensive. If you use LCD (most everyone), you have to get a high end unit which is used with a profiling program...
Hi BMW -
I am purchasing the following for a new build. Primarily for surge protection.
APC / BK 500/ CS 500 VA/ 70s item A75-1088 104.99 from Tiger direct.
Seems I also found some info by Googling UPS reviews. Good luck
Tom
Enginurd - The info on the cuda is from New Egg as follows:
Seagate Baracuda ES ST 3500630NS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive OEM
149.99 It is a perpendicular write. Model #ST3500630NS Item#N82E16820309001.
The primary reason for the WS mobo was it was rated extremely high for...
Hollow 4 - We must think somewhat alike. Great build. I am glad for the input on Vista, as I am actually leaning toward XP Pro. Not sure on 32 or 64, but now may look into Vista some more. I agree about CS3, but have only used Lightroom on a fellow photog's
machine. I'm sure I will add...
I'm thinking Gigabyte GV-NX86T246H Geforce 8600 Gt PCI express SLI ready.
I'm not a gamer, but do want somewhat kicked up card. Any suggestion here?
Thanks
Tom
Enginurd - Oops, missed your last question. I am thinking Seagate Barracuda (es3500630NS) 500 gig 7200 sata & using my existing LaCie 160 gig external. I don't think speed is a huge issue here. Speed does become important, however, when batching say three or four hundred files. Also I...
Enginurd - I agree and will go with 4 gig. My thinking on the Hanns G was strictly price.
I have the 20 VP2030b and use a second monitor as a place to park bridge etc. so I don't have to close/reopen windows while editing something at 100%.
I am considering the ASUS primarily for system...
Administrator - How can I cancel my account so that I can log in with a new user name.
(I unknowingly used my full name, and it was suggested I change) Thanks Tom
In a recent post I read the question "why didn't you ask our opinion before you bought. Sounds like good advise. So here is my request for helpful/critical opinions. I have been using a Dell 4600 for the last 3 yrs. I am a photographer who works with large raw files (often 400 at a time). I...
