I was an HOUR from calling CDW and ordering the NEC 2960, and then someone turned my attention to Planar's product..... So I took another day, did more research, thought about it a bit, and decided to save the $600, and go for the Planar.
And I never looked back again.
...But there is...
notnyt, so I installed your profile on my Mac, and tried it, but the display doesn't look any better..... The white became warmer and more "peachy"... Not that I'm bothered with the quality of the images on my LCD, I'm actually very happy, still....
I have:
DV Mode TEXT
Brightness at 0...
.........Haven't been around for quite a while...... So glad to read more happy owners here... Still am in love with my 26" Planar....
Hey, notnyt, can I use your .icc profile on my Mac too?
EW27: Don't blame CDW, it's all and only UPS' fault.... They do have many faults, UPS, I mean.....
So you'll get the monitor on Monday and you'll have a great week, full of fun to play with your new Planar.... I have this monitor for 8 months now, it's my bread and butter, and I love it...
I'm quite impressed.... After getting this monitor calibratec, I calibrated my ink-jet printer (using specific software that comes with the RIP that runs that printer), and now they both are very reliable compared to Offset-printed pieces designed and produced by my company.
Comparing the...
I'd also suspect it IS the same H-IPS (not S-IPS) panel... The specs are too similar (especially the 25.5" size...). And yes, it's weird that NONE of the LCD panels has the KIND of panel mentioned in their specs... Really weird, how such a fundamental piece of technical information is kept a...
As a designer I use QuarkXpress (page layout), Adobe Illustrator (for logo design and maps), Photoshop (for photo scan, color corrections and photo retouch and manipulation). I'm on the Mac. As for calibration, I use EyeOne, so couldn't give you any tips on Spyder2.
I love it. I really do. No issues whatsoever, it just does the job beautifully.
As to Acer's, I have no idea. My PERSONAL feeling is that Acer sells a lower-end line of products... Unless they've changed lately.
Agree with much of Uriel's assertions. Me neither, as I mentioned before, haven't noticed any of the issues Toasty mentioned, like horizontal lines, checkerboard pattern or backlight bleed. Colors are very vivid, and might be called saturated, but are quite accurate within color-managed programs...
Yes, I agree. One of the big advantages of the 1920x1200 on the 26" is a larger PPI than on the 24" -- which is clearly showing on the screen... I don't think one needs to be OLD to enjoy a bit larger type.... All in all, I'm happy with what I got, I can see a BIG difference in photo details...
------- Let's be a bit more honest... Actually that's NOT what Toasty was posting here.... He was comparing the 26" (not 24") NEC to the 26" Planar, apples to apples, and his resolution was -- they're both very much the same, with some similar "issues".... He wasn't totaly thrilled with ANY of...
---See, that's the point, NO. The only way (so I was told here) to ever check if your LCD has any bleeding lights or glow, is in a TOATLY DARK room, you need to have no signal to the monitor, and then check it.
So to me at least, this is more of a THEORETICAL thing, that -- even if it exists...
From this and what few others were posting here (Toasty's case too?) it sure looks like you need LUCK with this (or is it ANY LCD?) product... All I can say is, I had NO dead, stuck pixels, did not notice any lights bleed, or had any other issues with the PX2611W... KNOCK ON WOOD! ...
Oh, chuck chuck, you're a fool, fool. Get a life, chuck, chuck. And get over with it, nobody is blaming you, stupido.
...We're here for a different reason than you are, so it seems....
The only guess I can come up with, is the ugly stuff that was going on here for a few days (and then this thread wen into a sleep), that was deleted by the moderator....
Anybody checked about an EXTENDED WARRANTY? I know some on-line dealers are offering it. I talked to Planar and the guy said for this particular product there is NO EXTENDED WARRANTY AVAILABLE...
So I wonder why would some dealers offer it... Doesn't seem right to me...
I have my DV mode at the default -- TEXT. Am uninterested in sRGB or ANY RGB, for that matter, since I'm into PRINTING, so any photo is immediately converted to CMYK...
As to numbers to Target with my calibration? Am not sure what you mean.... I first set my brightness to zero, my contrast to...
Don't worry, many here are in the same boat... This whole "science" of LCD display is VAST and COMPLICATED... And one thing to bear in mind, and as Toasty himself admitted, NONE of those LCD displays is perfect... This technology, while MUCH advanced than what it used to be 4-5 years ago (yet at...
Nice, nikolausp.
Since I'm on the Mac, I wonder where is that screen-shot you posted taken from, is it from the Eye-One calibration program, or from one of Windows' Control Panel?
Right at 2.5" clearance between the top of the base and the bottom of the display bezel.
BTW, I was told by my orthopedic doctor that I need to have my monitor raised enough so that I don't tilt my head down, but rather slightly UP (=ergonomics) so I mounted the monitor on a Yellow Pages...
Just remember to write down, or better take a screen shot of the default levels (AUTO+SOURCE+MENU, see above), so that you can always go back to them once you manage to mess things up...
Yes, you can mess around with the individual color gain on the PX26.... But as Toasty noted before, it's more like messing it up... You need a lot of patience... I'd rather NOT deal with it... I calibrated (uisng the same eye-one display 2) and am happy. It's working for MY purposes, as a...
AUTO+SOURCE+MENU
Now, tell me what's the significance of these numbers... I can only guess that that's what the CALIBRATION system adjusted on my Video Card... Am I right?
And the Version I have is 1.02MGGKO and no "to" there on the right of the version number...
OK, there you go...
Nice, now I wish I knew what is it telling me... The numbers are very close to what you've posted here...
AND NOW, HOW DO I GET RID OF THAT THING??? Pushing the EXIT button doesn't eliminate it...
Well... I push the (OSM is it called?) MENU button to get the menu up, and then push the buttons you suggested, ane after the other and all the same time, and nothing happens... The menu stays up till I delete it with the EXIT button...
Still, pushing the EXIT button again gives me the DVI MODE...
I guess we need more clarification here, Toasty... I tried it with nothing on the screen (as far as the menu goes)... pushing the buttons you mentioned, one at a time, and all together... nothing of the sort you showed here is coming up...
The only thing I get NOW (did I CAHNGE something?) is...
