If there's one thing I've learned about waiting for that "dream" monitor, by the time it comes out you'll want something that can do 8k, 240hz, SHDR, etc etc :oldman:
Interesting, but price wise, you could just get a 4TB USB powered external drive that fits in your pocket for the same money.
Add another $50 and you can get an 8TB 3.5" external.
Its a sunken cost & effort unless you're putting in 4tb+ drives.
I think I'm just going to consolidate any data I...
Considering these boards will need to handle everything from 4 cores to 16, at a point power delivery is going to become an issue if you're overclocking the 16 core part on a mid-tier board.
We'll have to wait and see considering the 3950X is so far out, but it doesn't bode well, price wise...
That's a really good one!
I remember when we moved from where we had dial up and every minute online was counted and expensive and slow AF, forget downloading anything, to suddenly having always-on flat rate cable, it boggled my little mind. Leaving the internet "on" was like leaving the hot...
HTC Vive - Hands down, no other computer purchase ever blew my mind like that, if you can call VR an upgrade.
Before that though:
TNT2 M64 -> Geforce 3
15" 1024x768 LCD -> 20" 1600x1200 LCD
A64 3200+ -> Q6600
Spinny HDD -> SSD
2600k -> 3950x :p
That's kinda the worst case scenario I imagined, since few standard heat sinks worked properly on the threadripper.
Looks like neither my NH-D15 or my H115i will be much good here. Not the end of the world, just one more item on the shopping list. (y)
I was looking at the chiplet layout on the ryzen 3950x:
The off-center chiplets got me thinking about heat sink/cold plate orientation and design. Past single chip dies meant concentrated cooling effects in the middle, but with this layout, it looks like some formerly reliable coolers might...
That's really the one that gives me pause. Most development has been so intel-centric that AMD compatibility/performance edge cases are guaranteed to crop up.
Yeah, but I dare you to fire up notepad or solitaire, goodbye CPU! Bet you wish you'd waited for the 3950x, you could pause SOOOOO many...
A someone who's been waiting since the 2600k for a worthy upgrade, and slowly realizing that an overpriced intel chip is going to be my only option, this is the miracle I was hoping for.
I'm a sucker for whole numbers and hitting that 5.0, but when it comes to reliable clocks and acceptable...
Probably because not that many people use them in the grand scheme of things, and the ones that do are savvy enough to switch browsers for the option.
So they'd rather you block ads from their browser than from their competing browsers.
Also; Enjoy ad free youtube while you can.
More homes have VR now than ever before in history, I think that's a trend that will continue to grow. Now that you can get a kits for well for under $1k it's in the realm of the "consumer market".
To me it looks like a matter of display technology finally catching up and making home VR a...
Is there any source/proof of that, or is it conjecture?
Looked to me like the 20 series was priced the same price:performance value as the 10 series because no competition, and the 2080Ti was your only option at the top, so nvidia made a killing by jacking up prices.
Thanks for the ideas. It looks like the reality of sending high bandwidth video signals 40ft precludes any simple workarounds. But in the face of a $3k build, a few hundred bucks towards the necessary cables is pretty feasible.
I'm thinking of putting the PC somewhere in the middle, as far from...
Right now I have one rig in my office (multi-monitor setup with a DP 144hz primary display) and a second VR rig in the living room. This is only because I had enough spare parts to build a second capable machine.
I'm planning to do a new build soon and looking for ways to use the new machine...
Oh man, I haven't been this excited about a CPU launch in YEARS!
12 cores at 4.6 out of the box, bet it can do 5.0 pretty easy. For $500??? Crazy. The last AMD CPU I bought was an A64.
Can't wait for reviews and to sport AMD parts again!
Think about this; Since the inception of 1st gen Core i3/5/7 chips in 2008, up to the 8th gen in 2017, the flagship Intel SKUs remained at 4 cores. They had little to no competition until Zen in 2017 when they finally notched up to 6 cores for 7th gen and suddenly 8 cores for 9th gen flagship...
I think it should be stressed that the choice between 4k60hz and 1440p144hz depends largely on the type of games you're playing. FPS and other shooters benefit greatly from higher refresh rates and a more "connected" reticle, but RPG and RTS fans will probably appreciate the extra detail in a 4k...
You don't? I like the extra peace of mind that my place isn't going to flood while I'm on vacation. I've started unplugging most of my electronics too, it's a worth while precaution to me, along with locking my doors and windows. (y)
:LOL: This guy's trolling you all so bad, "My tires are rated for 200 but my street is limited to 30 like what's the point? :cry:"
hehehe, should've gone with "I only watch gifs at 12 fps" :ROFLMAO:.
This was the hardest part for me, watching the very series' that defined gaming for me when I was growing up, be put through a grinder and mutilated for the sake of a quick buck. You become bitter and jaded, you learn not to fall in love with any franchise or studio.
I think Half-Life is the...
I'd say it's more that "New games with big marketing budgets suck". I think a lot of AAA devs have put profit before fun, so not only do they suck but they're in your face everywhere and you feel like you're surrounded by rehashed garbage.
If you want more genuine games you need to look at...
Unless you really need the extra ram/mem channels, I'd ride that thing till the wheels fall off.
Otherwise that $200 would be far better spent on a full CPU, MOBO, RAM upgrade.
Last I looked the 9700k was about 20% faster than Sandy Bridge clock for clock, but you'll see a much bigger boost...
Ok, when I tried this a month ago it didn't appear to make a difference, but during the last week or so I noticed my windows weren't jumping between my screens any more when I turn the panel back on, everything stays where I left it now (exactly what I wanted).
Thinking back, the only thing I...
Is the 2080Ti going into your sig rig? It'd be interesting to compare the performance of your new card vs if you'd kept the Titan X and used the funds for a new CPU, MOBO & Ram.
Are you playing on 4k or a 120+ Hz monitor?
It sounds like the key to buying one of these monitors is to get it from an outlet that provides hassle free returns, odds are 50-50 it'll have a defect or you won't like the light bleed/color vibrance/pixel size.
Seeing how many times the 30"+ displays were delayed if you wanted 1440p @ 144hz w/sync I don't see them cranking the 4k's out any time soon. Even if they could technically do it, the timing & demand isn't right for 4k 144hz. I think the major manufacturers are waiting on the next gen console...
In the industry we call those "gashes", when material isn't just marked or grooved but damn well removed. :confused:
I had to return my 1st one, and I'm not even that picky, but stuck pixels are an out right NOPE!
