One of the nice things about being an "older" gamer is the ability to make decisions without remorse. Yes, I know I have bills to pay, and a mortgage, and a family .... but it was totally my choice to spend $60 on Fallout 4. Normally I don't do such things. Normally, I don't spend full cost...
Price.
Not in a position to drop $60 for a game. Bought a new house, responsibilities and all that. Looking for something to sort of relax my brain after the stress of day-to-day.
That being said ... its really, really, REALLY tempting to try to find a way to justify the cost.
Yeah, i put like 500 or more hours into Skyrim. Loved it. I never played the DLCs though ... maybe I'll reinstall and get the expansions. The Witcher is on my watch list. I keep hoping for a sub-$20 sale.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into those. Keep 'em coming if you have more.
I need a new game. I'm thinking its about time for an immersive RPG. Something budget friendly (which probably rules out Witcher 3). Maybe something that allows for creativity?
Yeah, it came out among many other RPGs at the time, and it was accused of "cashing-in" on the genre's popularity. It was called a generic RPG with the Mario label slapped on. I almost didn't get it when I did because everyone was basically saying, just go get a "real" RPG instead.
I really, really, really wanted to like ESO. But, it just never had the magic that the previous Elder Scrolls games had. I can't put my finger on any one thing, but Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind ... I played those things for hours. Never got into ESO in that way.

I still love Diablo 3. Played since beta. Still love it. I know it gets a bad rep at times, but I like it.
No One Lives Forever. The game's older, and got very little love, but was hilarious. Still have fond memories even though no-one's ever heard of it.
Mario RPG. Again, an older title...
I did three things tonight:
#1) Increased the virtual pagefile
#2) Deleted and reinstalled soundcard drivers
#3) Deleted and reinstalled MSI Afterburner to ensure my down-clock of the GPU
One of those seemed to work. Haven't had the error.
PS: If you google "TDR error" you'll find a ton of...
:(
Please help! I've tried everything. This is an ongoing, randomly recurring error I've been fighting for years.
Now on my second copy of Windows.
I'm on my second graphics card. Switched from nVidia to AMD.
My second motherboard, switched from DFI to MSI.
My second power supply...
Recently I've used Avast, MSE, and a corporate liscense for McAfee:
For my non-tech friends, I use MSE on all their machines. I find it to make the most sense for them in all aspects. Mostly, its a set-it-and-forget-it type system that isn't too intrusive. The only trick is to teach them...
I have since downloaded a GPU overclocking utility and DOWN-clocked my GPU. The temperatures were never an issue. It previously idled at 36*C and would max at about 58*C after extended use.
It seems the XFX HD7770 I bought was the "Black Edition" which came overclocked from the factory, so...
I've disabled the onboard GPU. I've updated to new drivers. I've reverted to old drivers.
The only error that appears in the Event Log anymore is simply:
"Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
I never had this problem on my old machine on WindowXP...
Ok. I looked in the "Event Logs" and upon startup I get two errors:
The Intel(R) HD Graphics Control Panel Service service terminated with the following error:
%%-2147467259
Faulting application name: igfxCUIService.exe, version: 6.15.10.3960, time stamp: 0x54299ab0
Which looks to me like it...
Guys, I need your help. My baby is crashing. And I can't figure out why.
I don't know if it is related to the Windows TDR, timeout detection recovery, crash that seems to happen from time to time. I'm sort of stuck.
Lately, whenever I play any game, I get a frozen 10 seconds, a blank...
For the record, you get what you pay for. The Lepai system works fine and gets the job done. But the plug connectors on the back don't fill me with a lot of confidence. The power plug is not snug and wiggles a bit. It feels a bit bodged together. We'll see how long it lasts. CHEAP is...
I use OBS. Its free, easy to use, and isn't a total resource hog. Overlays are easy and simple to setup. Plus, you can go straight to Twitch if you so desire. I don't need streaming for audiences, but sometimes it is fun to show your screen to a fellow who isn't in the room with you. I've...
I'm in love Smite, and I play it often.
But, I think all of us understand exactly what Hi-Rez has done in the past. GA and Tribes were unceremoniously dropped. I think the $30 they are asking for the "god pack" is very reasonable for a full fledged video game that you can get hundreds of...
Thanks, again, for all the advice. I went the Lenpai (cheap) route. I spent the extra $10 on the better powersupply and ended up with it all shipped for less than $40. This is what sealed the deal for me. For $40, I don't mind if this experiment doesn't work out and I hate it.
I'll keep...
PS: If anyone wants to find me in game, its the same in-game-name as I use here. I'm not the worlds greatest player, but I am Silver league currently. Not great, but not #1 trashcan NA either. :)
Me and the mates are in our 30's now. We've played lots of games and are now looking for the next one.
Often times it involves getting everyone on Skype with a few beers, logging into a game together and having a good time.
Whats something out there we may not have tried, might be under...
Smite is a great game. Its a MOBA kind of like LoL or DotA. But its more of a 3rd person view instead of the top down / isometric point of view. It feels more like a shooter style game than a regular MOBA too.
I love Smite. Been playing for a long time now. Its one of the great FREE...
Yeah, its only about $25, so even with buying the additional (better) power supply, its still only HALF as expensive as the Topping one. And a third cheaper than anything else. The only reason I'd consider it is because it is so inexpensive.
I'm leaning toward the Topping one, but its hard...
Thinking of just going the Amp route. It will give me freedom to pick up some better speakers in the long run. Besides, I do everything else myself, might as well do the sound system myself, too, eh?
Is there really much of a difference between the budget options?
The Lepai version with...
If I were to go the T-Amp route, can I reuse my current Logitech speakers? from the z560, it has them listed as 53W rms and 8ohms. It would tie me over to have something up and running while I'm sourcing good quality speakers.
I had some old Logitech z560's that I've been using for probably 10 years or so. They have finally died. Last week, they released the magic blue smoke and produce sound no more. (moment of silence ---------- )
So, what's next? I bought those on some sale for right at $100 when they came...
Do they exist? What are my options?
Obviously, you get what you pay for, but what is the current budget king?
Alternatively, what is just a good keyboard for gaming (FPS style) that doesn't cost an arm-and-a-leg?
Ones I personally purchased and assembled myself:
Intel 100mhz, I think this was before the Pentium name came out. I remember just calling it an x86 chip.
Intel Celeron 300A
AMD 750mhz. first real foray into overclocking. Did the "pencil trick" to get it to 1ghz.
AMD Thunderbird...
I picked up Borderlands 2 on the Steam sale this past summer. I find it to be very good, and a very good "sequel" to the original BL. Same stupid sense of humor, kicked up a notch. Even more nods to nerd culture.
The menu makes it really feel like a console port, but if you can get past...
