Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor includes a short campaign or two that are vaguely similar to the DoW2 style. The Warcraft 3 expansion pack includes a campaign like that, in case you missed it. Have you tried the new Jagged Alliance game? I don't know how much RPG there is.
Otherwise, for...
I switched to Nvidia to get away from ATI driver issues that caused hitching in some games. But this GTX670 has made me even more paranoid and sensitive to it.
I think for step 0, you should abandon framerate as a unit of measure. If you want to dig into this, measure frame times using FRAPS...
I'll have to play with it some more. All my test locations seemed fine, if I'm at 60 fps. If it drops down it hitches a bit like it used to. In other words, more than you'd expect for, say, 57 fps even with vsync enabled.
Anyway, if Dxtory got most of it and the windowed mod gets even more...
I'm using the Simple Borderless Window mod:
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4
Seems fine. As far as mods go, skyrim4gb patch did nothing for me (though similar patches lessened Gamebryo microstutter in previous games). This is a totally different type of stutter I've seen...
Windowed mode works for me! I get no stuttering in my test location, even without a frame limiter. Thanks for the tip.
adrift02, I'm surprised it didn't help you. Maybe I'll find some other places that stutter.
I did by chance just notice some Gamebryo microstutter in one area (at 60 fps)...
[H],
Did you guys notice any stuttering on the 6970 like you did at release? If you mostly benchmarked outdoor areas this time, I bet you didn't see it. But I still get bizarre stutter (framerate jumping between 60 and 59 fps but feels like half that) with certain indoor lighting and smoke...
After playing a few more hours, I agree it's not completely gone. I still get jerky framerates in certain dungeons with lots of lighting. Sometimes the framerate is below 60 but it still feels like it's much lower than that. Anyway, it's 95% playable.
I just fixed this using a framerate limiter. I used Dxtory. Click Advanced tab, click the checkbox next to Limit Video FPS (60), and run Skyrim.
Does that work for you? It fixes every spot I used to have jitter -- dungeons, near certain lights, in certain rooms. Nice and smooth to my eyes...
Well, what is it? I don't have any problems with BF3, but maybe I didn't notice them.
Please keep me informed.
Yes I've seen the same kind of feel in other games. The framerate says 60 but it feels like it's half that. It worries me that it won't be fixed.
Could you describe the original problem some more, and also what you did?
The jittery effect is noticeable in dungeon areas with a light source. When I move the mouse in slow circles it's not smooth at all, even at 60 fps. (Fraps usually jitters between 60 and 59 fps when I notice this...
Well, it's definitely not the G9X with either grip. The squared off part in the bottom right digs into my palm where my ring and pinky fingers meet. I'll see if I get used to it.
I'm getting really obscure here. I need a basic, no-frills, standard layout keyboard. I like relatively firm keys like you'd get in a normal Dell keyboard that I'm sure everyone is familiar with. But I need a spacebar that is attached more firmly than usual. Most of them seem to only have one...
I'm going nuts researching computer mice. I'm trying to locate a mouse with a similar size and shape to the Logitech MX310. I don't like the larger size of a mouse like the G500 just because I'm not used to it. I've been to a few local computer stores but they didn't have any wired mice to wrap...
Have you followed my posts? I have the exact same system (including CPU overclock) except XP at 1920x1200. I get about 30 fps right outside the tent, anywhere from minimized settings to maximized (without uber) and even on different resolutions. The best guess seems like the dual core trying to...
You're probably right. I just set the game to 1024x768 and still got the exact same framerate.
Also, when Geralt enters his death animation, the framerate immediately goes up 20% (with the exact same view). I bet the engine stops calculating certain things.
Yeah it's a shame. They said Batman was their inspiration for combat but it's not tight enough or designed the same way (perfect counters, invincible dodging). That's okay, it's an RPG.
They've also said Demon's Souls was an inspiration, but I have no experience with it.
Okay thanks. It's...
What CPU are you using? Do you have a savegame from right outside the tent in the prologue? I was getting 30 fps there whether I had settings at minimum or maxed (w/o uber). I haven't seen anything in the 40s yet.
Do you get even more if you set things to minimum? I'm trying to figure out...
Do you think that means they're leaving a lot on the table with their single cards too? I'm aware of the CF issues but it's not clear whether the single card framerates are well below what they should be or not.
Jim at RPS said the fighting gets easier after you get some skills. The progression curve is a bit steep.
Then someone in the comments mentioned he later went back to the opening tutorial and wiped the floor with everyone, so I'm sure a lot of it is skill based too.
It definitely sounds...
Sounds fairly similar. Now the question is: do you get much better framerates if you set everything to minimum? Maybe there's something weird about that first area in the prologue outside of the tent, but it seemed like nothing I did affected the framerate significantly except ubersampling.
What framerates are you guys getting with old Core2Duos? I have an E8400, 5850, 4 GB of RAM, WinXP. Running at 1920x1200, I get 30 fps right outside the tent in the very first playable area. I get that whether I run everything at minimum or high! The settings barely make a difference. Only...
I've changed my settings to the other ones in the TFTCentral database for this monitor: 7 brightness and 100 contrast. I tried their color correction but it seems like a lot of green!
I fiddled with the settings back and forth, but never got the IPS glow to go away. It makes Amnesia...
I tried a few more things last night.
Amnesia was pretty bad. I tried pushing the monitor back a foot and it became playable. Separately, the AG coat is still noticeable when moving the view against light colored backgrounds.
Are there any similar monitors out there with an A-TW polarizer...
Okay thanks. But I was surprised I got more glow from the left half of the screen than the right half, even looking straight at the middle.
I'll reinstall Amnesia (like in your link) to see if it's too distracting.
Is this IPS glow or backlight bleed? (Ignore the pixels in the lower right. I was using some program with a window I couldn't minimize.)
The monitor straight on
The lower left corner from a slight angle up and to the right
The lower left corner from straight on
Sorry if this is obvious...
I used the monitor some more last night and it's amazing how quickly I'm getting used to the flaws.
I might consider pushing the monitor back another foot. It would still take up a large portion of my view, but there would be less light glow from the corners.
The slight blur on everything...
Thanks. I'm on XP so I had to download something.
The TFT Central ICC profile (for factory RGB, version 2) sure has a lot of green. Is that normal? Maybe I should get my own calibration kit.
Okay thanks, I was wondering if that was IPS glow. It's really helpful to see these things in person.
I'm surprised it doesn't bother people as much as color/gamma shift does. Maybe that's because it only shows up on black screens instead of 100% of the time? The problem is any time I watch a...
Yeah I've seen that review. But I'd like some perspective of how it looks in motion. If you always get some edge-blur when the view moves, then the U2311 (for example) only changes it by degrees.
Do TN panels get close enough to CRTs that you can't tell a difference unless you're looking? If...
Which program do I use to load .icc profiles (like ones from TFT Central)? I didn't see anything in HP Display Assistant, only a way to save profiles I make.
I've been using a CRT for years. I picked an LCD monitor that looked decent, the HP ZR24w, so I could understand the flaws for myself rather than reading someone's opinions on the forum. ("Describe the color blue in words.") Now that I have a reference point, I need help comparing it to other...
I haven't seen a recent thread on this. Can I still get a full refund from Amazon if I return a monitor within 30 days for any reason? I'm a member of Prime if that helps.
I've been using a CRT at home my entire life so I'm not sure which of the various panel flaws will bother me. I'll start...
Some of the recent IPS monitors (U2410, ZR24w, etc.) come with panels that sometimes show a pink tint on one side and green tint on the other. I was curious if there were any hardware or software calibration solutions to modify each side of the screen to eliminate that. Or if there is another...
BTW, I'd be happy to swap your fan with my noisy fan (plus cash) if you need one for potential RMAs. You wouldn't be able to sell it to someone as stock though. Maybe that's why everyone wants to hold onto them.
If you upgraded your video card heatsink and fan and the stock parts are laying around, I'd like to buy the fan from you. Apparently some of them like to wear out and start making noise. That's what happened to me. I think a few other fans might be compatible: the 4870 and 5870 maybe?
$5...
What about a bad temperature sensor? Do overheated cores usually cause artifacts and lockups, or is that more when the memory is too hot? I have none of that stuff, although the heatsink is quite hot to the touch so it must be heating up some amount.
I knew I forgot to mention something. Yes, it's all cleaned out.
Like I said, I tried an old aftermarket cooler but the RAM was getting too hot and causing lockups unless I way underclocked the memory. Maybe I could get a better brand (of ramsinks) and do a better job of that, but it doesn't...
I've got a 4850 with the stock heatsink fan on there. I had removed it at one point to try an aftermarket unit, but it wasn't cooling the memory well enough so I had to put the stock one back on. Ever since then, the card overheats so much in newer games that the PC shuts off due to internal...
